I was talking to my hubby the other day about owner leaving everything.. I thinking that I heard she was in her 80s? But even at my age of 67 yr, I sure could relate to someone doing that.. especially if there wasn't anyone, like kids or other able bodied group that could do the packing and heavy lifting. Better to go to a warmer climate and start fresh.

      @annetjievz 4 месяца назад +5

@@creinicke1000 I just based it on the photos on the dresser. The lady in the pictures did not look like she was still in her prime. And I agree. I'm in my 50's and it doesn't seem very easy to live in that environment and still keep on top of everything that can go wrong.

To find your leak pressurize it with air and follow the hissing sound. Then tee it off with a air pressure gauge and if it holds GTG. Enjoy the mysteries of an abandoned house.

Hopefully it’s been said but that pipe you capped should be your low point drain so that you can drain the system of water so put a ball value so you can open and close it easily

    • @AndrewBeals

I tapped in to say just this - it's to drain the system when you leave so the pipes don't freeze and burst.

Thank you for inviting us along, looking forward to following. You probably already know but I just have to recommend you do 1 thing, it'll be the only thing I myself would recommend you do, it is:
➡DON"T get caught up in all the "know it all commenters" that will appear as you grow, don't feed them with replies, they will never be happy watching you live your own life.
➡If you start asking for advice on 1 thing it will start a firestorm of people that won't shut up, they will feel the need to advice every video and just ruin your comment section. (Some have already started)
➡Sure you already seen, some will run there trap without even watching the entire video, don't waste your life on them. We got ya.
➡Don't get mad at some of us that might throw a snowball at the ignorant know it all's, we do so because, in realty, they need it.
I feel safe in saying, 90% of us are excited to follow and enjoy your journey with you, the other 10% just won't SHUT UP. We just want you to know you're the driver, we're passengers, and just want you to ignore the know it all's at the back of the bus. Ya, sorry, we brought snowballs on the bus, lol
Best wishes on your new journey. Peace

In the first video they found a 1960 class yearbook from somewhere in Montana so the woman who left had to be at least 77 or 78 years old when she decided that she'd had enough. I don't blame her a bit. Hopefully, she has family and is enjoying the rest of her life in civilization 😁. I grew up dirt poor in Wisconsin and we would have to haul water from the pump house because the pipes going to the house would freeze. We heated with an old wood stove and an oil heater and heated the water once a week for bathing. The worst thing was using a bucket to relieve ourselves. My dad finally got smart and had two separate buckets, one for urine the other with wood chips for the human manure. Oh those were the days my friends...yeah I thought they'd never end😂

I could never tolerate that loud generator noise. The whole point of being out there is the serenity, the peace and the scenery. Id be switching that out for solar, and a super quiet - quiet as they come, back up generator. Youre dking a good job. Id redo all of those water pipes, redo that entire plumbing system asap.

.I really feel so very sorry for his wife because that was too much even with town's people helping. Finish it with love and fun family,i will be watching.Bless you all

I'd bet that bin and cap arrangement above the door is to drain the system when it's shut off so the pipes don't burst. Probably need to blast air through it to get everything out and maybe she tried by opening that line but couldn't get all the water out before she left.

The well pump prolly is 220 but each side runs on 110 so it can be ran if wired correctly or only half the pump will work with the 110 which still gives you water but may not be enough for the pressure you want and could cause it to burn out quickly

I’ve seen so many yourmtubevideos about homesteading in alaska by now and its mindbuggling how badly adapted alaskians are to winterclimate. Redundancy, ventilation, heating, insulation, architecture and design are so effing bad it shocks me that people put up with living in that poor standard. Is it mainly poor people that ends up living like this or what? Looking forward to see the new cabin with better systems and maybe some more thought put into easier living. Keep up the good job!

I highly recommend replacing all the the water lines in the house with pex pipe that way you know your water supply lines are good and working properly

Oh my goodness! Was that workshop/ garage/ generator house fully equipped with tools, hoists etc all part of the property purchase? What an absolute treasure trove!

It is the things we all take for granted then don't have get it back and are so greatful. Alaska would be the last place in the US I would want to live, but for those who do good luck. As cold as it is in Alaska and water sitting there for two years pipes are going to bust.

I bet the water pipe above the door are to drain the top floor when you leave the house unheated in wintertime.

Wow... You are in Alaska, you open up a wall and there is not insulation? Geez... You guys are doing great! I have lived without running water and packing water at 8 lbs a gallon is no fun!!! Congrats on getting the water going! 😀
