they kinda do disservice to musicals even imo, like musicals are not worth watching so you have to make them look like regular movies. which is obviously not true, some people love them

They did this to Hairspray back in the mid 2000s. Not everyone can go see the musical so a movie adaptation is a great idea. Have fun with it. The new movie has sparked interest in the original. That's a great thing for the original movie too. Yes it's all money.

I agree with everything u said related to the studio but I am not 100% against the idea of remaking a mean girls movie now - so long as it is updated to address and reflect the current status of girlhood today. Tina Fae based means girls off the parenting book Queen Bees and Wannabes (2002 edition, which def matters BC it's been updated annually) and I think there is a whole lot more nuance that can be applied to the story now with social media, teenagers becoming teens younger, etc. I think it's also important to recognize that when we originally watched mean girls back then it was a comedy and face value in interpretation but now looking back we can all apply critical analysis, since as adults, we realize the teen characters are all flawed and this is to prove the point that teenagehood and girlhood is messy. There is no sole "hero" or good character which almost makes it feel more accurate of a reflection on girl world. Now, do I think this updated musical movie will take these notes and make something transformative, modern, self-reflective, and worth critical engagement? No. The studios simply are not capable of doing that despite the obvious expectations the demographic holds, prob BC it costs "too much" to pay writers to make a story of that worth. Nevertheless, I'm sure they will make enough money to break even from those nostalgic and expecting what I outlined.

What gets to me is why it has to be a REMAKE of mean girls. I 100% agree that there should be a teen/tween/young adult movie made today that tries to analyse teen life in the same way that Mean Girls did in the 2000’s. My problem comes in when people say that “if they remake mean girls then it should do this and that”. In my opinion, Mean Girls is a period piece. It is messy, and strange, and some of the things said and done may not sit quite right now, but reflects humour and culture that was around then. If people have a problem with it, or if they find it needs an update they should write something ORIGINAL that reflects the kind of movie they want. If it’s done right views, praise, and attention will tell. Making a remake will immediately cheapen the message while tainting a brilliant distillation of how teen life was/was interpreted when Mean Girls was released. All that’s needed is for someone to think of an original way to reflect today’s feelings towards teens without hiding behind the “Mean Girls” name and make it.

I can't comment on 'Mean Girls' because I never saw the original movie and I don't expect to see the remake.
I can say that film and TV production is notoriously expensive and each show requires vast amounts of money to get it to an audience.
Cinema and TV thus combine both art and business.
From the business side, films are notoriously risky investments. Anyone who promises you that a given film will definitely be a huge box office success is either a con artist or dreaming in Technicolor. The business side of 'Hollywood' is always looking for ways to minimize the risk of a given film and pull in enough investment to make it happen. This has resulted gratuitous sex, violence and visual effects and in formulaic 'franchises' because the producers can plausibly claim there is an unending audience for that stuff and hence more likelihood of profits.
Decades ago I worked on visual effects for 'Star Trek 6' (I enjoyed the pleasure of killing Captain Kirk) but it soon became clear that the studio regarded the Star Trek 'franchise' merely as a lucrative cash cow and it was just time for another milking. They didn't care a hoot about their audience as long as they bought tickets and kept cranking more out as long as there was a clear market for them. (My personal pet peeve is that ever since the original 'Star Wars' there seems to have been a view that the risks associated with stories and characters could be mitigated with gorgeous cinematography, amazing stunts and physical effects wrapped in lots of visual effects, resulting in stupid, vacuous films increasingly resembling video games - there is no substitute for good story and characters IMHO). This is what happens when the business side dominates.
The alternative is that the art side dominates and you end up with a masterpiece that nobody can understand or wants to see and the investors lose their shirts. Sometimes the result is not even worth justifying as art - e.g. 'Heaven's Gate', which bankrupted United Artists, a storied studio originally created by Charlie Chaplin and May Pickford.
So I can't say I'm surprised that somebody identified money to be made by a musical version of 'Mean Girls' and a film remake. The formula is being milked again.
The good news is that with increasing use of digital equipment and techniques, the cost of producing decent films is falling. The cost of viewing them is also falling with streaming channels. Hopefully that could mean we will see more good films that were not so compromised by business imperatives - but that will always be there.
There will always be a juvenile audience looking for sex, space and stunts over decent story and character development.
If that's not your fancy Liz, just don't watch.

to be completely fair, you falsely advertised this video…? you said you were going to talk about the new mean girls film but the last third of the video you just talked about a few specific themes from the first movie such as hyper femininity and body standards.. i’m kinda lost
