As a Program Director myself, I appreciate this video. I think a lot of students come into this thinking they are just going to learn instruments and how to pass them. They don't realize how much more goes into the career. There is a very large misunderstanding of our profession

Nova Dawn, I'm an RN. The OR trained me on the job. I learned the instruments, sterile technique, etc. There's a lot to learn, but I loved it. I mostly circulated, but I scrubbed, too. It was a requirement where I worked for the nurses to be able to scrub, too. It was easier for all when an emergency came in. It was easier for the staff where call was concerned. We could switch days or give it away. Our director didn't mind, as long as it was covered. I loved the job. Good luck!

Hi All! This was a very informative and eye opening video. I really appreciated this as a new student to the medical profession and as an adult student who has been out of school for 10 years as well as someone else I read in the comments. I had financial aid holding me back for years and finally have the opportunity (before quarantine happened) to pursue the rest of my education. At the time years ago, I picked something in the theatre field that I feel no longer serves my purpose. I don't need a degree to do that stuff as I can do it by having a social media account. So I decided my aspirations were design and secretary work, but I've always been drawn to medical just not a doctor or nurse. I am considering dual majoring at my school and had this as an option and spoke with director. Much like this video, I received alot of insight that I value and will help me decide. I'm alil discouraged because I was told I probably can't dual major with this as it will be a tough program and not all students that apply will get in and no job can be held during clinicals. (which I understand) my school has a rigorous associates program. I'm not scared, I'm just trying so hard to pick the right path as this is my second time and whatever I focus on i don't want it to be a waste or drop because its too much. People have already told me art students won't transition well you have no background in math and health etc. i've heard it all, so i'm trying to block out the negative and see if I want to pursue Computer Graphics/CAD or Surgical Tech or Medical Assistant program. I think Medical Assistant program would be easier to dual major as it won't be as demanding i've gone over it, but something about this I like. I have a week to decide before I apply and unfortunately i can't start until June anyway so I really enjoy these videos. Any feedback anyone can give for a student going back to school at 30 possibly taking up a completely unfamiliar territory feel free to comment. I WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK AND thank you Surgical Tech Tips this is cool. Much respect and appreciation for this field. Its become so much more fascinating to me. Stay Well! Part 2!!!!! lol

I don't know if all surgical techs schools are the same but in my school they would disrespected us all the time. Most students didn't want to ask questions because they would talk to us like we dumb. When you tried to confront them in a respectful way they won't rationalize with you. What they didn't understand is that all students learned different ways. In real life you have to deal with some rude surgeons real rude like throwing all you're instruments on the floor. Keep on mind that NOT ALL SURGEONS ARE THE SAME.There are nice surgeons. Other than that it's a great field because you're part of saving a patient and making a safe procedure. You also get to be in different types of surgery. It has its perks but sometimes they make you feel like you have to kiss there ass......I hope other surgical schools is not like mine . By the way I admire you're videos ..

About the externship...I just finished school last week and have not been able to find an externship site. I was forced to take a LOA. There were 9 students in class. All the students but me and one other person already worked at a hosspital, so they got picked to go to thier place of work first. I called around to hospitals myself and I was able to get into contact with one hospital but i'am waiting to hear back. Still waiting...The fact that I have to do that on my own is very disconcerning. I live in the milwaukee area and there are a ton of places but only certain ones take students. So now in order for me to get done with hours and cases i woukd have to work 10 hr days mon-fri, and that is only if I get asite by the end of the week. I won't mention the school I'm at but it is nothing like the one in this video. We don't have any type of new equipment, everything is from like the 80's and doesn't work. I just wish I would have known before I started there, I would have chosen a better school. Despite that I'am still studying and watching these videos to help me. Sorry for the long post, just felt like ranting :(

-how are you under stressful situations and an example
      - are you good at team work and give an example
      -strength & weakness
-favorite subjects when i was in school (kind of a random question lol)
-give an example of when you were working in a team and things were going wrong and what you did to help
…my biggest tip is to be yourself and just explain how you want to help others!
i got into the program! 1 of 18 students picked! i finish all my work and tests and labs in february and now i’m just stuck waiting to be placed for externship! while waiting i took an accelerated spd course. i really recommend doing this if you can afford it. if you take spd before doing Scrub tech it’ll make scrub tech a whole lot easier and it’ll give you a higher chance of getting a job

@@hahardridge personally i’d recommend just doing scrub tech because it’s a lot. you want to do as well as you can in the program because it’s not just about passing. your teachers and Directors are the people you want to impress because they give your references for future careers. focus on doing your best the first time around so that when you get to the board exam you aren’t cramming for it.

Meaning, I will be paying roughly 750 a month to pay it off within the 18 months. With a 5pm to 1am work schedule everyday to be able to afford it.

How the hell am I gonna do this... I really like the idea of working in surgery. I want to be involved in something that is highly needed in society, which is: people who want to work in the OR.... I'm an artist and feel like theres to many people out here who just want to be famous and they get nowhere, doing honestly nothing (only some know what they're fucking doing).... I want to help people while also having the means to do what I want with art. If I pursued this path I would want to shoot high for the PA Surgical Assistant. I totally lack experience to judge if I would like this though. I realized I never know if I truly like something unless I'm there. I'm 23, and been living bare bones for awhile; just want to close in on something and DO it... I want to aim for something high which I view as this!

So I’m currently in my sophomore year of college at community college and I want to be a surgeon. I’m transferring to a four year after I get my associates degree but I’m so eager to work in a hospital or medical setting. My brother is an emt I considered getting that cert for a while til I found out the education need for a surgical tech. I’m thinking this could be great exposure and a helpful background in medical school and I’m residency and if I were to get the cert and I could maintain the job I’d love to continue working throughout college and throughout med school. If anyone is in this situation or giving this some thought or you know a lot about this field in general do you think this sounds like a worthwhile option or should I just keep going on the regular path of a bachelors and then med school without the job? All helpful opinions and suggestions welcome 😁

I wouldn’t recommend you going to ACC. They charge an arm and a leg. Find a NON-PROFIT school like a community college or another private adult ed school that has the same program for much cheaper. Many for profit career colleges have been shutting down. So do yourself a favor and don’t attend any college that has an 800 number.
