Attention is an object. It possesses varying intensity, ranging from dimmed when we are sleepy to heightened and alert when wide awake. Additionally, attention has a directional quality: it can turn inward towards thoughts, memories, and dreams or outward towards sensory experiences. Also, attention has a type of aperture to it that can be either wide-allowing for a general awareness of everything-or narrow, focusing intently on a specific sensation. However, Awareness of attention is integral, beyond (transcends and embraces/welcomes) attention (object, experience, measurable, limited), incl. the experience/sense of being/awareness.
The only way to know the truth is to admit that we know nothing, and let the truth reveal itself. No amount of intellectual reasoning will cut the mustard, because our egos are dedicated to deception.
Whatever I perceive cannot be me. So the game is seeing more that is not me and going deeper until the perceiver is one with all that is, ie no separation.
@@TheToddJason I am also wanting to follow your interview of Ken in sequence but find the videos are not sequenced. Do you have them available and in sequence?
Initially, Wilber’s presumptuous, philosophy “of everything” sparked interest. I read his books decades ago, but after time has passed, he seems more so to be marooned in a sea of words, repeating themes re-formulated from others’ (and often critical of them, with ad hominem-tendencies) to possibly a greater extent than most people I’ve read. He’s obviously lived thru traumatic experience, and has a somewhat failed, un-completed academic life, but more importantly, fails to incorporate the vast, essential non-human living world into his philosophy. And what’s with the thrift store wig and Vanessa Redgrave look?
I get by your comment that you are very ciritcal of KW. But, you have barely left a clue to what you really object to. This is a sincere inquiry. I encounter vague statements of dismissal mostly from people who have barely scratched the surface of "Spiral Dynamics" and his other comparitive writings. Is that a valid description of you? I do have my own "arguments" with things he puts out there (mostly his personal take on politics and wholesale dismisal of "magick"). I think he personally leans heavily into "orange" more than I would want... but I think there is great insight here for understanding the "differences" within humanity, and the way consciousness has evolved on a societal level (which has helped me be more patient and tolerant). I did see a video where he explains "his look", but his explanation didn't add up for my satisfaction. It's his own personal experiment... and he needs NO ONE to "approve". Cheers... :-)
I doubt someone with as much disgust and contempt for others as you is enlightened to any degree. I can't imagine being the type of person who is interested in non-duality but somehow draws the line at a guy with long hair being too "strange" for you. Semms like the only person running fron a traumatic experience is you my man. God bless.
@@marcmoore4069 You’re demonstrating adolescent defensive reactivity and creating a narrative about someone you know zero about. Wilbur is a failed academician, pursued independent study, and has contributed content to his field. He certainly appeals to some folks. Personal tragedy, sense of failure, led him towards construction of a personal philosophy of some obvious principles, but lost in a sea of tiresome terminology. He tends to disparage others, w/ resultant loss of some of his followers. The reference to the wig/Vanessa Redgrave persona is merely a joke (but quite accurate). Go pester someone else-you won’t ease your distress here. BTW, insulting people, then following with “God bless” smells hypocritical.

I look at it as different prisms of worship. You can be the One as is or identify with this ball of consciousness to worship the real one, who's image this one is made of.
I think people who vibe in the middle of ego development don't like to be put in a box because they fit so well in it, such as statements like this. A good theory is built on observation and the point is to get out of the smaller boxes because they are uncomfortable and if you're in them unaware, you can be drained and drain others, that's not to say you aren't striving for comfort by keeping as many others in your box with you
This fella is clearly being animated with assistance not generally considered to be divine. Just observing, not judging. I'm no expert but seems self-evident to me. Clearer messaging available elsewhere imho.
Jesus defines the ego as the desire for individuality, and separation from God. God being the wholeness of eternal life. So, by believing that separation from God was possible, and actually achieved, it became necessary to dream up a world, in order to hide from God. As God is also perfect love, the ego cannot tolerate the seeming vulnerability, and defencelessness of love, and constantly tries to assert itself in various ways. All based on the false belief in sin, guilt and fear. Anyone who meditates comes up against this fear, and anger, but these must be faced, and eventually transcended, to realise the love underneath. What keeps the ego intact is the belief in a real world of form, with separate persons actually doing things to each other.
The Buddha teaches that all the sensory organs ,including the mind, ( skandhas ) and all that they seem to perceive are empty of inherent existence. In other words, the sense of self we normally identify with is not real, and neither is the world we seem to see. He realised this after years of vipassana meditation. What was left was the Unconditioned, unborn, and unmanifested nature of Reality. This is now referred to as non - duality, or the Oneness of all life. Jesus calls this " God " or " the Kingdom of Heaven ".
Because its a fascinating place.😊 there's so much to learn and discover. So much we dont know about. Honestly, I dont like to call it enlightenment, like its some goal reached. its more like using a flashlight in a dark forest while most others are using laser pointers. We are enlighteners, for a better term. Thing is, the forest is scary with scary things lurking. A flashlight exposes it. A laser pointer can only point at it and highlight it. Its mentally seeing a bigger field of perception, more potentials, more puzzle pieces. The more you see the pieces, the faster they begin to fall into place. Its knowing that its a never ending puzzle that will never be completed, but being okay with that, because the beauty is simply watching the pieces fall into place like snow on a field. It's the beauty in watching a painting come together. Its seeing the suffering of the world and seeing a way to help end it but knowing no one will bother to listen. Its knowing that we suffer because we must, as that is life, but so much of it is of our own doing. It truly hurts sometimes to see things that, because there's so much of it. But duality is an interesting thing, because it also causes us to see the converese, the happiness. That the beauty in the world is everywhere and in anything we wish to see it in. Its being a kid again, excited at all the cool wonders of the world. 😊
What happened to this guy? That wig looks so bad, so fake. He used to be my favourite philosopher. I kinda lost interest after his book "One Taste". He described that when he went on business trip in 1997, it took him 2-3 days of living in the real world to lose access to higher levels of consciousness, and back then he already was a very advanced meditator with over 20 years of practice (2-3h per day).
