    Except leaving Tyrick Mitchell out, this squad selection is almost identical to mine. But leaving Grealish is surprising. It's clear Eze and Gordon's pace off the bench will be utilised heavily (or so I hope so). Gordon might play as a makeshift left wingback, which is a major issue. Trent will need to feature for the sake of width. Great video, but it needs to be remembered if you played any of the best international sides in a friendly against Borussia Dortmund or Atletico Madrid, these decent club sides would cruise to a 3-0 win.

    In my opinion, even Rice is better box to box, when he played as a no.6 for Arsenal, they struggled to pass through the lines into the free 8s/no.10s until Jorginho started playing there instead, that’s why i think Wharton should be the no.6, and Rice box to box. And iv’e always liked the idea of Watkins on the left, making diagonal runs beyond Kane like the Son/Kane partnership. That leaves Bellingham and Saka for the other positions. Joe Gomez has played his best football at left back, he has been brilliant and he does use his pace to overlap and provide width, and can form a back 3 depending on what the team needs

Southgate's england squad scores plenty of goals as it is, and personally, I don't see Gareth and Co. able to successfully navigate multiple attacking midfielders at once. Good analysis but I think your last point about other teams' shortcomings is the main hope for England. Having a starting 11 with 3 players out of position in Foden, Trippier and possibly TAA is a recipe for disaster. Wharton has looked the best alongside Rice and I'd at least try him there in the first group game. I've watched his games for Palace and he is very assured in that position and is a better passer than Mainoo or Gallagher and a better defender than than TAA

      @@Football434 That can be overrated in international football. Which more placates flair, fitness, pace, and random short bursts of form. England lost vs Italy, not because of a lack of European experience but because Southgate fiddling with a system and not playing to pace. The man kept Mason on the field for over 100 minutes 😂
      England now has reached the point where no matter the options no midfield should scare them.
      France midfielders are older and play well ok one style of play.

  • @rotex03
    @rotex03 7 месяцев назад

    Great video, but I don't think the lack of talent ( in defense and midfield) will decapitate them. It's the pressure of the public. Harry Kane is desperate for any trophy, and with this one he would say "my career was worth it" and we would want to correct the lose in the final last time.
    Since these tournaments have less games than national leagues, it is much easier to just hold on during the match and have briliant minds carry you through. Think of Zidane during 2006 WC or Kahn and Ballack during 2002 WC and CR7 during Euro 2016.
    So lack of balance can be dealt with. But squad mentality needs to be capable of suffering and not breaking during those 7 matches.

  • @julian-eu3xh

    In the midfield, Gallagher has to start alongside Declan Rice and that for numerous reasons.
    First, I must say that it's not my habit to call a starting place for a player with this profile who hasn't proved anything with national team yet.
    Now, let's get to why it it the best option : to begin with his profile is very complementary with Rice and Bellingham. The three together would form that kind of very balanced and compact midfilelds that goes well with Southgate style and that often win international competitions.
    His profile of cm box to box, physical who makes useful runs and isa machine press could enable Bellingham to be more free minded and surprise opponents from time to time.
    Then you've got to highlight Gallagher's leadership, he's the type of player England desperately needs: the one who can stand his ground when others fail around him, as he proved during the entire season at Chelsa.
    Then , there is one of the best reason, wich is not statistical and wich is that you cannot win a competition with only star players, you always need the right soldier to complete the team and Gallagher, at this right moment in time, is exactly this player.

    • @Football434
      @Football434  7 месяцев назад

      Gallagher on paper fits the bill. Industrial, hard working, good running, good water carrier. Seems like the ready-made replacement for Henderson. As you said, it's very important to have players like this in your team.
      Too bad he's looked mostly terrible every time he's played for England in that role.

    Great analysis... how do you feel about bellingham on the lw? With his physicality and desire to run beyond kane. Then have foden as the number 10 with saka on the rw. Then rice and mainoo as a midfield pair... mainoo has the ability to carry the ball up the field while rice shields the backline. Then the front 4 can play fluid with lots of positional rotation. Specially between kane foden and bellingham. Put mainoo on the left side of the pairing with rice... so bellingham can cut in and play narrow while mainoo drifts into the left channel to cover the lw defensively.

    • @Football434
      @Football434  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah Bellingham playing on the left is something he's done for Madrid a few times in a 4-4-2. I think if Foden starts on the left we'll see a lot of Bellingham - Foden interchanges. I do think LW Bellingham does limit his influence though, and still doesn't solve England's issues with width on the left hand side.

  • @joechow3338
    @joechow3338 7 месяцев назад

    The real test for England this time of the Euro is the team's thrust and momentum in the competition. While the richness in the team's young talents are admirable for many, the defense is still an Achilles heel. How Southgate is going to deploy these talented players in which position for each game in what formation are of strategic and tactical importance. As said, this is an unbalanced mess of talents with not sufficient international experience particularly the likes of Manoo, Palmer, and Eze. Theoretically, players like Stones, Walker, and Trippier are more seasoned who will bestow an atmosphere of calmness for the youngsters. That said, it still is very much up to the players to find their form in the coming up games. Hopefully, players like Kane, Rice, and Walker will be able to demonstrate leadership influential enough to keep everyone together till the end.

    England can’t mess this up. They have 2 guys in contention for Ballon d’Or and one of them is in contention to be the best player in the world alongside his 2 pace monster teammates. Harry Kane, should’ve gone to Madrid if Mbappé didn’t already made it clear he was moving to Madrid. (Sidebar: I find that hilarious because without Mbappé, Harry Kane would’ve buried spurs by moving to Madrid and winning everything in his first year). Harry Kane is the crowned jewel of the attack for years now and in his prime with the strongest support he can ever have internationally, he has to win this tournament and break his trophy curse. And Jude Bellingham is in best in the world conversations alongside Mbappé and Vini.
    Now a lot of people who only watch the premier league want Foden to be on the 10 spot, nope. Others even say Palmer, double nope. Palmer is in talks to being the best young player in the prem, foden as the best in the prem, bellingham is both younger and better than them, so the two pasty dons don’t have a say in this conversation (Foden is uber elite though). And Saka is Saka, the smile that can light up a room, even if he’s out of form you play that man. He’s elite! So you have Bellingham, Kane, Foden, Saka, and Rice who’s great. If they mess this up and get slapped up again? Or lose again. It’s gonna sting the English fans for sure.
    Also Southgate has to be brave and play TAA in RB and just let him invert when he wants like in Liverpool. Walker can play CB because England lacks CBs now due to the god of England, Harry Maguire having a very inconvenient injury. MF can’t even stay fit.
    Also mans look like the God of flicks, KennyS

      This new look England forward line lacks goals at international level. With Maguire out, Saka has the second most England goals with 11. Foden has 4, Luke Shaw is in fourth place with 3...

      @@Football434 I would put faith in a front 4 of Foden Kane Palmer and Bellingham to score plenty. With Saka holding width for Foden, Foden can drift central, Saka is creatively excellent and defensively persistent, so he can provide crossing and defend, (basically playing as Robertson used to for LFC before he burned out) then have a more solid back 3 and maybe don't play Walker (he's had a bad season anyway), Palmer is used to playing unsupported on the right at Chelsea anyway, Bellingham retains his best position. Pick a partner for Rice and i think its sorted. No getting around that rice's partner will be a youth player unfortunately.

    When Bellingham played with Haaland, he wasn't making lots of runs in behind either 😂😂.

      Foden can hit space in behind but is he as good as Bellingham at it? Unsure. Also, even if he does, he's not as strong of a finisher off the left.
      When Bellingham played with Haaland he didnt crash space in behind because 1) that's what Haaland does himself and 2) he was playing deeper in midfield for Dortmund.
      I agree he can still do it from the #8, but he'll do it less frequently due to ground that needs to be covered. Also hasn't done it for a whole season since he's been at Madrid. Also I have some doubts about how secure he is in possession.

      Bellingham doesn't have to make those runs in behind as much for England. Kane will play as a 9 for large chunks of the match.
      Next season, when Mbappe or Vini Jr are playing more as 9 running in behind, Bellingham isnt going to be doing as much for Real Madrid.
      Do England then not play Bellingham because he isn't running in behind as much for Madrid??
      Its makes no sense to say Bellingham cant play 8, because he isn't Kroos or Modric at keeping possession, when England doesn't have Kroos or Modric 😂😂.
      It makes far more sense, to have Bellingham and Foden in hybrid 8/10 roles, than to have Foden play left and Bellingham play 10, only for them to end up playing hybrid 8/10 roles. Eze off the left, with Bellingham/Foden hybrid 8/10's is more effective and balanced.

      Grealish: if you're taking 3 strikers (which Southgate has), it probably means you've got to drop one of your LW options. Taking Foden, Gordon, Eze and Grealish for one position is too much. I like Grealish a lot and would have taken him, but that would mean dropping either one of Eze or Gordon - hard to justify after the season Grealish had.
      Biggest opponents: France because they're the best, and on our side of the draw. Outside of that I think Portugal are the second best team. Amazing squad, with an unbelievably good qualifying campaign. Could see them winning the whole thing.

Its perfect but he won't do it as Saka is one of his favs. MF is fine with Gallagher - Bellihngham -Rice that's a top MF, with defence no clue how good Guehi is so that possible worry, this is Southgate's own fault for leaving Tomori and Smalling at home.
