When Kraans de Lutin isn’t in his Berlin sound studio working on music for bands like Seeed, Culcha Candela, and Gestört aber Geil, he enjoys spending time with Frank Underwood, Jon Snow, and Saul Goodman. But where the heroic title characters in the streaming media inspire most of us to merely binge-watch to excess, they give Kraans quite a different idea. Why not launch the often wonderful title melodies out of their accustomed context from the couch in an entirely different direction with a new musical style? Say, the dance floor of Kraans’s favorite club?
So the sound wiz from Berlin got to work. With the name “Serial Killers” he set out to remix his favorite melodies from his favorite series and make them danceable.
The selection for the first song was made quickly. “Edelweiss,” the title song from the Amazons series “The Man in the High Castle,” fascinated de Lutin right from the first episode with its folk-like guitar and woman’s voice, at once intimate and faintly magical. This might be because the song seems so personal and familiar to him. No wonder: it was written back in the 60s for the film and musical, “The Sound of Music,” and adapted for the TMITHC series.
Now the song is getting its third makeover. The Serial Killers version combines the ethereal voice from the series with a stomping beat and massive chorus vocals. Enhanced with a new little - almost affectionate - summery tune.
