Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy vs Myofibrillar Hypertrophy With Minus the Gym

  • Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy vs Myofibrillar Hypertrophy which is better and what are the differences. Many don't know that muscle hypertrophy branches out into two areas, Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and Myofibrillar Hypertrophy. When we are building muscle there are numerous things at play that will show in a increase in muscle size and strength. Myofibrillar hypertrophy is where we increase actually contractile tissue, we increase the number of the myofibrils leading to an increase in size , with sarcoplasmic hypertrophy the main adaption will be an increase in the sarcoplasm, this houses the energy reserves for the muscles. The way we train can have an impact on which of these will be the focus of our muscle growth. Depending on what rep range you focus on and therefore what intensity you lift at and the volume done can effect which one you will be more focused on. That be said that doesn't mean that doing high rep high volume work which would be more sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, that you wont build some contractile tissue, just more of a percentage of the gains will be via sarcoplasmic, you will also increase in strength just not like it you were to do low rep high intensity work.
    Knowing the impact of our training can help a lot, there is no better version it all depends on what you are focused on. I f you want to both want to get strong and build muscle i recommend doing both high rep and low rep work. The low rep high intensity will you your strength training and will allow for strength gains and myofibrillar hypertrophy and the high rep work lower intensity will allow for building muscular endurance and sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and will make you overall more well rounded.

    But there really haven’t been enough research on that topic ((if you have some show me pls) to determine what cause's myofibrillar hypotrophy, what causes mypfibrillar packing and what causes sarcoplasmic hypotrophy. And also not enough research on which of .them makes stronger

      Yes you will get some myofibrillar when doing higher rep work, it isn't a all or nothing but the percentage will change. You can try and benefit from both but doing high and low rep training.       People who are doing callisthenics or such push ups , dips and chin up are strong is because they target myofibril?

    thats a delusion, if you are big and training with lighter weights it doesn't mean your are weak, it means that you don't want to train with heavy weights because you aren't an ego lifter, want to avoid injuries, your measure of performance is being healthy muscle and joint wise... measuring performance by kgs is just a metric, there could be many metrics, more kgs just vanity because somebody can't really use their "super" strength other than comparing it to others, basically same as comparing your muscle size to others lol... by the way the wording 'weak' also very derogatory toward one side, because by definition big muscles can't be weak... so thinkg again...

      So my training is more based around performance, that's what motivates me not looking bigger, getting bigger and chasing aesthetics is secondary to me. I don't see the benefit of getting big ( i understand no size/weight etc has been specified to what constitutes being big) if you are not that strong in relation to that size. I have trained with many people that were far bigger than me but were not as strong, I'm talking weight lifting and calisthenics so understand the strength to bodyweight ratio. Why do you think people want to look big?? that's vanity.no judgement but you are chasing a look. most don't care about strength yet you say people who lift heavy weights are ego lifting, not true at all, there are some that may do that but most people strength training are just trying to get stronger than what they were before, competing with themselves. I would argue and I think squat university looked into this and heavy lifting doesn't mean more risk to injuries , actually quite the opposite, more likely with lighter weights and when you take sets to failure. Lots of volume isn't great on the joints and connective tissue either but I'm sure we could a agree that a safe consideration of volume and intensity with good form and good rest between workouts can help avoid injuries and help connective tissue issues. We need to define weak though, if you are training with lifter weights you are not focusing on strength adaptions, your right and technically a bigger muscle is a stronger one yet most strength gains are neurological and you don't get that training with lighter weights, plus the size you do gain is more focused on sarcoplasmic as opposed to myofibrillar hypertrophy, the actually growing on contractile tissue on and not the cell volume increase or the muscles energy reserves. I'm sure you'd agree you will be stronger having more contractile tissue that just more energy reserves. It does seem you have a personal issue towards strength training and a bias towards bodybuilding and that's fine I'm the same but opposite but my opinion is based on experience of doing both and aligns with how I like to train and what my goals are. So I stand by my opinion of i don't see the point is being big if you are not that strong, it serves no other purpose that just being big for the sake of it which would likely mean its for vanity reasons, and that is fine, train for whatever goal you want, if you are exercise and being healthy that's cool but to me its like that expression "all show no go" and that does appeal to me.
