I'll break it down for ya..... The lighter shade individuals are The Band. They are awesome. The darker shade ladies and gentleman are The Staples, a Gospel vocal group. Legends. This video is from a film called The Last Waltz directed by Martin Scorsese. The Band decided to break up, but instead of fighting it out in the papers they decided to have one last, big concert and invite every great musician they'd ever played with. So nearly every song is them with someone else equally legendary. It is worth a watch... most definitely. The "bonus" is more footage from the film. - Your GOAT in Thailand.
Staples Singers songs: - I’ll Take You There (this is the one you know even if you don’t know it) - Respect Yourself - Oh La De Da - If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me)
@Flying Cupcake I took friends to see Irma Thomas live once - they really didn't believe that voice was coming out of that person, so effortlessly was she singing :-D

True, but they only sang with the band for The Last Waltz The Bands farewell concert which this video is from. The Band is my favorite group and The Last Waltz is the best concert film out there.
This was a merger between two super groups, the Band and the Staples. Normally just the Band sings this song but was joined by the Staples for this performance.
The best American Canadian band ever! Mr. Video. You HAVE to check out The Last Waltz where this video came from. Directed by Martin Scorsese and one of the greatest concerts ever filmed! Enjoy.

I saw the Band open for Crosby Stills & Nash at Colt State park in Bristol RI back in the mid 80's. Outdoors on Narragansett bay on a beautiful summer night! The band was AWESOME! Unfortunately David Crosby showed up late for CSN gig and then threw a tantrum on stage. I thought Graham Nash was gonna kill right there on stage! And there isn't enough great things to say about The Staples, stone soul groove brother! Fantastic reaction brother Mr. Video! This is a great ride we are all on. Blessed to be here! Thanks man!!!
@@jeremyleneave5618 It was funny to see Graham Nash walk halfway across the stage, and Crosby was acting like a child, arms folded across top of guitar with his back to the crowd, and the band. After about 10 minutes or so he started playing and the rest of the show he was fine. He had a big booze and coke problem at that time. That's why he was late I think.

Speaking of Bob Dylan. The BAND was his touring band when he went electric in 1965. They were booed everywhere around the world for over a year on tour. They got back together for a tour years later in the 70's and all the booing had turned into joy as the world fell in love with electric Bob & the Band! The BAND put out 8 albums, Bob like 80 lol( more like 40)

This is The Band, as in "Oh, your band has a lead singer? Ours has 4." Plus Roebuck "Pops" Staples, Ms Mavis Staples, and the rest of the Staples Singers. Thanks for the amazing reaction to this awesome song, Mr. Video!!
@Mr Video I like how you react to rock music and metal music, but I humbly request you react to some of John Lee Hooker ( my favorite singer/songwriter ). He does great collaborations with Van Morrison and Canned Heat including many more but his solo stuff is great. His music is real old school, but for starters I recommend Serves Me Right to Suffer or I'm Bad Like Jesse James.
Absolutely a must!! My oldest son did a world tour with his son John Jr as his guitarist. I'll just say that I'm not as big a fan of Junior as I am of Senior and leave it at that. 😉✌️
That "sister" came from heaven. she is an American treasure to be sure. And part of one of the oldest American family bands recorded (The Staples Singers). That sister is the one and only, FANTASTIC Mavis Staples.
Gotta do It Makes No Difference from their last waltz concert.. That song was Rick Danko's masterpiece and quite possibly the saddest song ever written.
I took my teenaged son to watch Mavis Staples play a concert at a local Jazz festival. He was hooked and made me watch The Last Waltz with him. Had a blast showing him some of the old greats and reminded him how good it was for him to be exposed to some of the greats.
Bob Dylans old band who did their farewell concert filmed by Scorcese. "The Last Waltz", widely considered one of the, if not the the best music/concert movies ever made.

Im indigenous and i absolutely love watching when the staples come on and see black people's face light up immediately when they feel that soul connection. That is what our culture calls spirit, and knowing how musically motivated our races are, its lovely to share and witness the same force.
The idea between a double guitars, is that they play in different octaves. This is awesome songs. Bands from the mid-to-late 60s and through the seventies, just laid it on down. This was the age of Aquarius the time to let go of the old and grab onto the new. Desegregation and all schools and public institutions. Changes in the way we thought about our government end the war in Vietnam. A time we all started looking more critically add nuclear power and power plants. It was the Cold War it was us versus Russia. The 60's and 70's world wild ride but I'm glad I didn't miss anything but seeing Janice in concert!
When my father passed away everyone in my family got to pick a song to play at his funeral. This is the song I chose. It still hits me every time I hear it.
Sorry for your loss. Lost my dad 15 yrs ago. Mom just left this world to be with him again. Forever. They let my 4 brothers and I play our new albums on dad's Hi -Fi stereo. They discovered our music and taught us to love their music too...jazz, swing and the blues. I chose for mom's service It's a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and for dad's it was Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald. They are still dancing I've no doubt. I get great comfort from my memories. May you find comfort in yours. Music helps so much.
The Band (the pale people here) started out as a group of studio musicians who played backup for lots of famous people, including the Staples Singers (the guest artists here). They eventually went out as a band on their own and had several famous hits. This is the last concert from their last tour. Thirty some songs in a 5 1/2 hour concert with about 20 different guest artists. The Staples Singers, Bob Dylan, Niel Young , Muddy Waters, Niel Diamond, Ronnie Hawkins, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchel, etc. A movie and an album were made of the concert but the producers didn't like how the original recording of this song went and re-recorded it in the studio later. That's what we're seeing here.
Saw Levon Helm in concert with Ringo Starr an his all star band. The rest of the line up was Joe Walsh, Billie Preston, Dr. John and Clarence Clemens. Got to sing the Weight with Levon. Damn what a show!

This was a clip from the Movie the Last Waltz. It is an incredible collection of groups singing with The Band on the occasion of their giving up touring. Groups and artists such as Clapton, Dylan, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Paul Butterfield, Joni Mitchell etc. It's will worth your time to look these up.
Mr. Video As the song finishes you can hear Mavis Staples whispering "Beautiful", precisely what I think of your reaction. From someone who has enjoyed both The Band and The Staples for 40+ years Thank You!!
The legendary Mavis Staples! 💥 Too bad the last line gets cut after the drunken bonus track, where Robbie says “Well, it ain’t like it used to be!”😂 The Band were one of a kind- Old Time Religion, damn straight!

This is a great tune...thank you for you reaction and choice...The Band was Bob Dylan backup band, this was filmed at their last concert called The Last Walz, which you still can watch...its a movie...and on dvd...✌
I love this reaction. You know there is a whole album, " Rhythm, Country and Blues" of similar songs. BB King, Staple Singers, Aaron Neville singing with country artists.
Brother, Levon Helms....just pure greatness. It's beyond brilliant! Levon is the lead singer. RIP He also played Loretta Lynn's Dad in The Coal Miners Daughter movie.
I am a 60 yr old white guy that has loved the Band and enjoyed the Staples since I was a kid. Watching them on 60s and 70s variety shows. These two belong together, in the tree of music you can trace them back to the same branch. Incredible talent. But let’s concentrate on shit that don’t matter.
Just for the record, The Band had 3 lead singers. Levon Helm who sings lead here, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko, all deceased now, unfortunately! I would suggest you dig into this group's catalog! Some of the greatest musicians of our time! And some of the most respected! I cracked up watching your reaction to every "twist" this performance had, but I bout lost it when Danko's "Crazy Chester" verse came in! That just about put you away! Try "Ophelia" "Stage Fright" "Atlantic City" "Shine a Light" " Life is a Carnival" , all are great songs that stay kind of under the radar. You will get suggestions for "Up on Cripple Creek" and " The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and please check them out, but try some of the hidden gems too! Now........as far as drummers singing, check out Don Henley of The Eagles, Pete Revera of Rare Earth, and Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad.
After listening to this ya'll need to listen to 'The Weight | Featuring Ringo Starr and Robbie Robertson | Playing For Change | Song Around The World' Another level altogether
This is from the concert movie “The Last Waltz” it was the Bands last concert and the Staple Singers were part of it. There were lots more guest performers in the movie..worth watching !!

You just witnessed some major talent there my friend. The Band is far more influential in the musical history than they receive credit for. And the Staples Singers are on a level all their own, as well. I was lucky enough to sit front row of a small revolving stage venue to see The Band perform many years ago. Life Is A Carnival is one tune that will stick in my mind forever from that night. But they don't have any bad tunes and I'm certain these awesome musicians could transform a phone book into a music standard if they chose to.

I love this reaction. You know there is a whole album, " Rhythm, Country and Blues" of similar songs. BB King, Staple Singers, Aaron Neville singing with country artists.
Ya feel it my friend...Awesome...
Brother, Levon Helms....just pure greatness. It's beyond brilliant! Levon is the lead singer. RIP
He also played Loretta Lynn's Dad in The Coal Miners Daughter movie.
Glad you got that special feeling about this performance. Exposing young people to this music is essential.
Man, how I am only seeing this too lol this is Mavis Staples singing with The Band... A lot of legend on that stage 🙌🙌
fun fact #1 The drummer, Levon Helm, was also an actor. He played in the movie Shooter, the Mark Wahlberg film. He was the old gunsmith they go visit.
Its fun to see you react it's like a kid at chistmas.
This song proves that people can join together and create beautiful things for the world to enjoy. We need more of it. Peace and Joy. Love and Light
Wait until he sees an plane: What! Metal in the sky! First time I’ve seen that. This is crazy.
I love the sister next to pop smiling. Precious.
Definitely react to "the night they drove old Dixie down" and "up on cripple Creek" you'll go crazy over the organ player
Mr.video did you listen to that song “ The Payback.” By James Brown?
I don’t know Karate but,
I do know
Crazy.
Every time I hear this version of "The Weight" I want to also hear Jimmy Fallon and The Muppets.
Levon Helm, is the drummer. Man, I surely do miss these days when the MUSIC was surely ALIVE!
Peace and LOVE
The Band were The GOAT
In the beginning of the movie they talk about other band names, the passed on “The Honkies” and Levon Helm the drummer...genius
After listening to this ya'll need to listen to 'The Weight | Featuring Ringo Starr and Robbie Robertson | Playing For Change | Song Around The World' Another level altogether
One of things in life a man never forgets seeing for the first time - double necked guitar!
This is from the concert movie “The Last Waltz” it was the Bands last concert and the Staple Singers were part of it. There were lots more guest performers in the movie..worth watching !!
I agree with the below, you are definitely adorable and I like the made up words sometimes better than the bad. Love watching you. Have a great week. Kiss your boys for us. 😊😊❤️
The last waltz is amazing. True musicianship. 🤝❤️👌
"further on up the road" from the last waltz ft. eric clapton is amazing
Dude, that moment when you say "What's Next?" and I know you've still got surprises to come.
"the sister came out of nowhere man"
dont know why but thats the funniest thing i heard today
You just witnessed some major talent there my friend. The Band is far more influential in the musical history than they receive credit for. And the Staples Singers are on a level all their own, as well. I was lucky enough to sit front row of a small revolving stage venue to see The Band perform many years ago. Life Is A Carnival is one tune that will stick in my mind forever from that night. But they don't have any bad tunes and I'm certain these awesome musicians could transform a phone book into a music standard if they chose to.
This may be your funniest reaction yet. I'm dying. This is a classic performance from the great film The Last Waltz.
