    I didn't know what to do with the baptism and communion candles at first but then I decided to light the candle on my children's birthday. They had their regular birthday candles but the baptism candle was lit first and we gave thanks to God for another year with our children and to bless us with many more. My children are in their 30's now and we have used up all the baptism and communion candles. Praise God, because He gave me the idea.

    In our family tradition, the godparents buy the godchild a necklace or bracelet with a medal such as a miraculous medal or a crucifix image, and have it blessed at the baptism. We usually put it on the child once they are old enough to not yank it off or pose a strangulation hazard. It is never taken off as they get used to it and serves as a wonderful daily reminder that Jesus is always close to them.

    I agree when you said anyone can perform baptism BUT only in a emergency situation for example if someone is dying and there’s no priest around, you can perform a baptism. Only a priest can perform baptism in normal situation. We can’t just randomly baptized a person who ask for it. I just wanna say thanks for your helpful tips and ideas. It’s really a huge help.

    • @mayalmariomendoza134
      @mayalmariomendoza134 Год назад +1

      That is correct. In an emergency, anyone can perform baptism using the correct wording. Otherwise, anyone can't perform a baptism willy nilly.

    In our Parish we use the Baptismal Candle again for Communion and Confirmation ceremonies. After that you could use it each night for prayer time with your child or light it at Christmas or the child’s Birthday . If you are getting married your and your spouse might still gave your Baptismal candles! . If so , it might be a nice symbol , to have them lit individually at the start of your wedding ceremony , then when you are married , the Candle symbolising your unity could be lit from your perspective Baptismal candles!

    Holy water from the same baptismal font is so awesome. I love the soft Mother Mary. My niece has a little statue of Mother Mary, she wrecked it because she always wanted to take Her on her bicycle for a ride. But we did manage to salvage that beautiful Statue before she was too damaged to fix. Well the mother of God, can still have an accident, can't she? ...falling off a bicycle.

    Interesting fact, I was baptized in Puerto Rico (because my godparents, my mother's brother and sister (unmarried at the time) still lived there) I never got a baptism candle, since they do not have that tradition, but my little brother had one since he was baptized in California by family friends. We both also don't have Confirmation saints, since where my mom grew up in Puerto Rico, she didn't have one. My dad let my mom take the lead in that ascept.

We were supposed to have the baptism last week but it's been postponed. I love the holy water idea so I might do that and give that to him on the first anniversary of his baptism! I've heard from people around me that it's also nice for the godparents to give a small gift each year on the anniversary of the baptism to commemorate this. Thank you so much for making this video!

    A nice gift for baptism is a rosary or in terms of jewelry, a medal to wear with a saint or a crucifix. I always give a Bible and their first piece of jewelry with a Padre Pio since we're Italian or an Our Lady, for example. I always gift a small gold crucifix as well.

      No way!!! That is not a Catholic tradition and honestly rude to ask the Godparents to pay for the baptism gown, the parents should pay for the baby’s gown. God parents are to help spiritually, usually but a little gift but not the actual gown.

    My son was baptised in December at 20 months old due to strict restrictions there was a very long waiting list for baptisms after the church was opened up again. It was a nice service but the priest didn't touch the children as what was normal before instead he used a q-tip dipped in the oil and he didnt do the blessing over the chest he just did the head twice. He wouldn't even let us collect a little baptismal water. I feel it was a bit of a "make-do" situation.

    • @ashleyslack5960

      For shame in that diocese! It is grave sin to delay baptism that long, and that is a situation where a lay baptism may have been the correct thing to do (or to travel to a parish that is not so afraid and worldly that they would dare violate the proper liturgical practice of how and when a baptism is performed).

    The churches don't actually ask you to pay for baptism, that's free of course. What some churches charge for is the staff that might have to come in to open the church, turn on the lights, the candles etc....it's a donation to help out the parish, not to really pay for the baptism per se.

    Question about Godparents I'm wondering if someone can clear up for me? Can you have just one Godparent? I've heard yes and no on this. We are expecting our 3rd baby in the summer and we only have one person in our family's life that is a good candidate for a Godparent.

    • @ashleyslack5960
      @ashleyslack5960 2 года назад +1

      Yes! You technically don't need godparents, it is getting harder to find people in good standing who can fulfill this important duty. You can also have a non-Catholic Christian witness. Ask your priest. We did not have any godparents for our 2nd child - literally knew NO ONE who could check the blocks with integrity. So we had a friend serve as a Christian witness. It's not ideal, but it is better than delaying this vital sacrament for your child.

    • @marycasey210
      @marycasey210 2 года назад

      Yes, if you only have one person to choose from then one godparent is permitted. It's recommended though that if the baby is a girl the godparent should be a woman and a man if the baby is a boy.

    • @marycasey210
      @marycasey210 2 года назад

      Talk to your priest. If you explain the situation to him then I'm sure he will permit it. I've heard of some people who only have one godparent.

    Honey , you don t need any priest or ceremony to get baptized: and you also have to choose it . Jesus get baptized at 30 years old; baptizing baby isn’t in the Bible .. it’s a CHOICE. Anyway , you can pray for your children: they belong to God , before you ..
