  • Kotetsu Jeeg (Steel Jeeg) is a toy I have wanted for ages as it has links to one of my favorite Micronauts Toys, Baron Karza. And it's a great toy making use of magnets for it's main special feature. Watch the video to find out more, and check out the links below to see my reviews of the other toys mentioned in this video.

What a great toy! I wish companies still strived for playability and innovation like this!

Very nice video, and of course bautiful toy. Here in Italy we didn't have this toy, and the anime was translated and aired on Italian television with a few years of delay in 1980. It had a smashing success. Oddly enough Italian kids used to play with magnetic Micronauts since 1978, so when the anime aired everyone noticed how Jeeg looked like the Micronauts (while actually it was the opposite way). It was common for kids to play with Force Commander pretending it was Jeeg, sometimes with rough green and yellow custom paint jobs. The Micronauts sold very well in our country, so much so that even after the bancruptcy of Mego, Gig begun to collaborate directly with Takara producing two more exclusive magnetic Micornauts.

One of the reasons this plays so well with Microman is they were both designed by Iwakichi Ogawa. So he made them in a similar style.

I had Baron Karza's horse, Andromeda, as a kid. I recently got both Andrameda and Karza, and I love learning the provenance of these figures. It always makes me super happy to learn that something was reused from an older toy.

Great review! I have two Baron Karza figures, so this was very interesting! Like you, I had Karza as a kid, along with several Time Traveler figures. I now have a good start to a Micronauts collection that features 2 Karza figures, an Andromeda figure, blue, clear, red and yellow versions of Time Traveler, a working Microtron and Biotron. I hope to get more figures very soon, because I love them.
I really like the old style boxes too, and I prefer them to the modern blister pack, carded figures. The old GI JOES, the Six Million Dollar Man, and Mego figures came in boxes that displayed well, and often had little die-cut windows with clear plastic behind them for viewing the figure. I think that was better than today's plastic-centric, wasteful packaging. Just my two cents there.
I'm very happy that you have finally acquired a Steel Jeeg! He's a great looking figure, and I love the multiple colors. Fun stuff!

I have family from Italy and Steel Jeeg was a pretty big cartoon there in the late 70s and early 80s. That's where I know Jeeg from (and also where I eventually got my own Jeeg figure for my collection). Great review. Emperor (Mego Italian) is also amazing if you like Karza and magnet figures!

Great video! I had some Time Travelers and some vehicles in the late 70s, I loved them! Coincidentally, my son was in town for 3 weeks, and we were looking through my many boxes of comics. Lo and behold, I found 2 of the X-Men/Micronauts limited series!

My favorite thing about this toy is that he can turn into a centaur when combined with Panzeroid, his robotic horse. Or alternately, a centaur on wheels!

Jeeg was very popular in Italy, the cartoon became a cult. Did you ever notice that its head is basically an elaborated watermelon?

  • @RetroRobotRadio
    @RetroRobotRadio 4 года назад +1

There is actually only one magnet in the entire toy. One right in the center of the chest. The rest are just steel balls and plates that stick to the one large middle magnet. No small magnets for kids to swallow.

  • @protozoalord

I'd recommend trying to get the vintage Pantheroid (it's the horse), it's not too much more expensive then Jeeg and you can swap out the legs for the horse's body to make sort of a centaur. I would recommend trying to get ahold of the Big Shooter (spaceship) as well, but that one is just too expensive and hard to come by.

Not familiar with that toy but it awesome, I never swallowed a magnet as a kid 🤨 marbles, a GI Joe gun, the tip of a spear and the cap of the gas can from a toy helicopter I had 😂 but no magnet 😂

Never knew about this one. I had Force Commander and Baron Karza as a kid. Plus Andromeda the horse. The Belly missile was quite dangerous so I rarely loaded mine. Hair Trigger on it and nearly shot my own eye on multiple occasions. The Force Commander I had would have made a good project for you now. One of his elbow joints became very loose and flopped around as if it had been bent against itself. The was a small metal split washer inside it I could see when it bent I remember. But seeing as the part was still riveted together I couldn't fletten it back down to make it sit properly in the joint. Only mildly spoiled my enjoyment of the figure. Baron Karza was in perfect condition though. Not sure how my Force Commander got in his state. I didn't damage him pretty certain my brother didn't it may have just been a fault when I got him.
I know about the others in the Micronauts range. Always wanted them, never saw them. Great video thanks.

Hi, i need some help! When i was a Kid (must have been around 1980) i had an action figure of a red robot. It was very heavy, mostly made from metal and some red plastic. The style was very japanese. It had a red head with spikes and one fist could be shot off. In the other hand was a silver axe, which (the axe) could also be shot off. I wonder if i ever could find that toy again (e.g. at a toy fair or on ebay), but i dont know what to look for. Does somebody know the figure which i described? Where could i get more Information?

In the News cartoon those back "launcher" things are just rockets to help him fly and the bid cone missiles are drills for drilling.
He never has them on his back, he just uses them for arms when he flies.
