Hey guy great vid mate im about to do my second 5am start n be home for half 7. Can i ask you, where the heck can i get 1 of those prorex micro minnows i just cant find 1 anywhere.
Awesome video! Could it be that your strike might be too strong? It seems to me that they had been hooked and came loose just a moment later. Chub have a strong take, suck the lure in and very often turn around straight afterwards, to get back to their spot. When I fish for chub, I tend to just strike softly and let the fish do the rest. This counts even more for the big ones (50 or 60cm +), as they have a lot more power but not really harder mouths. Swapping to single hooks on the "bigger" cranks can also help the fish to take the hook properly.
Thanks Carlo, I am using ultra lite rods (0.5-7g) so i find i do have to give them a bit of welly to set the hook. That said if im sight fishing i do have a tendancy to strike too early , so i wont strike until i feel it taking line and that increased my hookup ratio significantly..... single hooks are a great suggestion, in summer i tend to fishing cranks on the surface and i replace all trebles with singles.... again this increased my hookup ration thanks for watching guy
@@D1G5yD0G I had a lovely 14lb on 6lb gear, 100yrds further up whilst dropshotting a few weeks back. Video on my channel. I guess there is always a possibility that a pike could take any smaller fish , but ive never had it happen and I have aught alot of chub this season on crankbaits .
@@theoccasionalangler6956 I saw the vid, I had a 14 not far from you on a 7cm curly tail. I've started using 12lb finesse traces on my bfs setups, haven't noticed a difference in performance tbh.
Hi just a quickie question Where did you purchase the Shimano Calcutta bfs reel from, are you able to say. If it was from an overseas market are you at all nervous about warranty etc. And would you recommend buying from japans domestic market to others, have you had any problems? I really want to get one but don’t have the experience to go outside of UK. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Yes I bought through Asian portal fishing. They are excellent (they replaced a very expecive tailwalk rod that broke and paid postage, so I can highly recommend them
@@theoccasionalangler6956 Thanks for the answer you gave me. I really appreciate that. It boosts my confidence as I really want to buy a Calcutta Conquest bfs real I have three already(not Calcutta Conquest!!) 1. Abu Garcia Black Max 2. Daiwa Prorex TW100SV 3. Tsurinoya SF-50 bfs Why do I need another!! But I do really like the way that reels looks. And you said a lot of nice things about it. They have it on digitaka for a reasonable price £320. But this would have to be the last reel. (I hope) I really like your channel by the way. I get a lot of good tips and it’s entertaining too. Well done. I know it’s hard work. But it’s appreciated.
They are my lucky flip-flops!..... and I was being lazy (rushing out the door to fish over my lunch break and couldn't be bothered getting my shoes on!!)
😀Will now be watching for footwear as well as fish! Seriously though, great videos, particularly for someone starting out lure fishing. Tried crankbaits the other day for the first time. Blanked but have confidence they work so will persevere!👍
@@simonf9997 they are seriously underused in this country by lure anglers..... at this time of year make sure they are diving near to the bottom and retreive them slowly. Salmo hornets are very good
Chub are just the best. Great work Guy.
Thanks mate, its been a really nice way to end the season
Great video!
Thanks mate really appreciate you watching
Another great video guy really enjoyed that one, love catching the chubb and working cranks 👍
Thanks Darren, im hopefully about targeting a really big one before the season ends!
Do you never feel the cold? Shorts and sandals in Feb! 🤣
I'm terrible at getting into cold water.... its been pretty mild here
@@theoccasionalangler6956 needs to be 20+c for me to get my legs out 🤣

Nice fish i have never caugth a chub on a lure, only ASP (roofblei)!
We don't get Asp in the uk , but they look alot like chub
@@theoccasionalangler6956 Yes, a ASP looks a lot like a chub or winde/ Leuciscus .
That was nicely done.. interesting to see that little chub..on the lure.....are you worried about pike severing the line??
I've never had it happen, there are other stretches which hold more pike where it could be a problem
I've had a pike in that exact spot...

Love your videos but feel I can never unsee those flip flops now. Less informative channels and I'd probably have to call it a day 😉 😁
