While I really do love and immensely enjoy the weekend wankshops, can we please have a lesson on recording guitar videos Uncle Ben? You're really one of the only people I trust who will make the process easy to understand, just like all those intimidating solos that turned out to be totally achievable.
Thank you so much for this Uncle, I had no idea you liked Gojira! From Mars to Sirius is my favorite album of theirs so seeing this is an utter delight. I’d really love it if you could a lesson for Oroborus, or really anything from The Way of All Flesh, all the songs on that record confuse me to no end on what is happening half the time.
Another great job! You really bring out the subtle moves needed to play the riffs correctly in a thorough but unintimidating fashion. Unbelievable quality👍
Glad I'm not the only one who spends ages watch live videos to learn the right way to play riffs. Do love those inverted power chords too. Sylosis use them a fair bit as well over there last few albums. Good way to make e standard tuning sound heavier.
Oh holy shit you actually mentioned Morbid Angel here. Thanks for that mention. MA's later albums REALLY need the attention, especially with how much Gojira is getting with what is basically MA's Tucker-era formula. Hah, I made that pun again.
I was an industrial keyboardist...and, a pretty terribly self-taught ‘guitarist’. But, I sure do like you. Cause you actually KNOW theory. And, mind you, I’ve the utmost respect for bassists, drummer and guitarists-period. But, I especially LLOOOVVVVEEEEE Joe and Mario. You teach, though. Thusly, making it possible for me to actually follow you as I was a classically trained pianist for well over a decade. Anywho......thank ya. 👩🏻💻🤛🏼
One riff I've never been able to get down correctly is the outro riff for "The Art of Dying". Those are strange chords and the 2 guitars play them differently, almost like the dissonant chord in this video. It would be very helpful to have a lesson on that!
Hey Ben.. It'd be really great if you can upload lessons for some of the Guthrie Govan's solos from the Steven Wilson's songs like Watchmaker, Drive Home, Ancestral, Regret #9. They are all amazing and hard to figure out. I'm sure a lot of people would like to learn those solos. :)
I’m like you and hyper analyse Gojira videos and had this almost entirely correct but thanks for clearing up the bits I didn’t know! Wish you had gone over the chords they use towards the end of the song though, that bit always throws me as it sounds on the record like each guitarist is playing ever so slightly different chords to each other so it’s really hard to discern 😩
Thanks for posting this one Ben, I'm looking forward to working on it this weekend. One Gojira song I would love to learn would be Global Warming. The tapping riffs are excellent. Could you do that one soon?
Can you do the solo rhythm track for The Frayed Ends of Sanity please? Listen to the the AJFA deluxe track of it titled (The Frayed End of Sanity Work in Progress Rough Mix). The solo isn't there so it's pretty clear to hear.
GOJIRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I'm such a huge fan. Go see them live if you haven't. They sound every bit as monstrous as their name. Anyway, I've learned several Gojira songs over the years, but the one that always gives me trouble is Toxic Garbage Island. But it's because nailing those bend pinch harmonics consistently is tricky as hell.
@@BenEller 100% agree. But I give the edge to Gojira because out of the two drum gods that are Mario Duplantier and Thomas Haake I prefer to watch Mario.
Have you considered the String Butler for your Les Paul? Just bought one for mine some weeks ago, and it's amazing! The D and G tuning holds so much longer!
Hey, I've been trying to learn 5150 by Van Halen for a few months, and it's one of the hardest things I've tried to learn. But I couldn't help but notice the videos I watch looks nothing like what Eddie is actually doing. Any chance you could check it out?
Pray , I have not tried to pick the song out myself but there no good proffessional Tab books so ? you are extrodinary accurate in everything you do so any Gojira song would be great. By the way I’m sure they were influenced of the band Magma or Weidorje writing pray. Only Pain is good too. I me myself should probably pitch low muted guitar up one octave it much easier to hear notes that I’m not sure of. I recommend the program Riffstation that they give away right now for free now . Super easy to remove vocals or single out guitartracks for example remove the 2 super loud rhythm guitar on the Cowboys from hell solo. It was quit easy to copy after that. I don’ t rely on any offical books or tabs completly normally. No wounder they are provlems to transcribe things when muted power chords can sound almost a halfstep higher. For example the B5 chord in the pre chorus of puppets that you can see still in many tabs. I try to listen to one channel when guitars ate overdubed for example some isolated track with randy rhoads reveals that he play different notes some places then you have to pick the one you favor. I think it’s the same regarding to some megadeth rhythms guitars I worked on before. So no wonder Tabs differ a lot even with isolated track and software you can still be unsure about whats going on. I’m from Sweden some spelling are gonna suck.
Gojira stuff is so fun to play. But I'm having a really hard time getting that e3 pinch harmonic. I can do it when taking my sweet time, but during a fast pattern I just seem to pinch wrong. Either the string is just muted or the lower frequencies cover most of the harmonic. I'm trying to practice to get better at finding the right hand position for it, but progress is pretty slow.
Thanks for making this vid! On the studio recording the slide part on the F string sounds like a slide from the 2nd fret to the 4th fret and slide back down to the 2nd fret. They way you do it doesn't match up with the song for some reason, maybe i am hearing it wrong and you're playing it right. idk
Hello Uncle Ben, I can't seem to get the pinch harmonics on the E string in lower positions to sound at all, do you have any idea why? Is it maybe not enough gain or something? I can get the pinch harmonics on any other string though.
Thanks for learning the real way to play Ocean Planet! What other Gojira songs do you want to learn on Weekend Wankshop?!
Ben Eller thanks for the help ben!
all of them.
The Heaviest Matter of the Universe.... or Remembrance and it's awesome outro
How about that epic solo from Mastodon's "The Motherload", Uncle Ben?
The hybrid picking is driving me nuts!
"Where Dragons Dwell", the intro riff. is one of my favorites, Beautiful and heavy...
Maybe do a “Things Gojira does” video
8:38
@le254athe6rbe3lt toight
He did it!
The madlad actually did it
Thank you for giving him this idea because it's hilarious
More Gojira!!! Uncle Ben is preaching the truth
Can't wait for your discussion on the intricacies of muted upward pickscrape harmonic thangs
Heaviest matter of the universe is so good, I don't feel like I've found an accurate version of the whole song yet. Would love to see your take on it.
Where The Dragons Dwell has tons of great riffs.
Beckoning Oblivion it’s an amazing song but it doesn’t have TONS of riffs it’s literally like 2 riffs over and over again lol
@@Twenty1st true! fun technique though in the one part
Charlie Charlie I agree
Stranded, Vacuity, Backbone, Born In Winter, The Art Of Dying, The Gift of Guilt, The Way of All Flesh. It's hard to pick a favorite.
That tasty tapping riff in Oroborus!!!

Yes. I am so happy right now.
2:26 Uncle we need Morbid angel riffs
I love Gojira. One of my favorite bands. I'm really looking forward to seeing more videos of their songs broke down. Thanks uncle Ben.
That frame of you with the crown is killing me.
One of my favorites from Gojira! ❤❤
Thanks, uncle Ben. You're the best!
I was not expecting this from you Ben hahaha. This was also the first gojira song I ever heard.
Hopefully not the last??! Have you listened to more Gojira since your comment, Hareesh?
Yo is that my guitarist from Prodigium? Hareesh Kumar Shanggar?

I love your obsessive research.

This was a nice little surprise, I went on a massive Gojira guitar riffs binge a few months back, thanks a bunch for clearing this one up Ben!
Well done Ben! Helpful to many! Thanks for sharing brother!
Thanks to you I just listened to Gojira’s songs stranded and flying whales so now I’m addicted to Gojira
"Sometimes these french bois just like to make noise... it's okay, noises are neat"
Fly on Silverwing!
Excellent tutorial!
I would love to see you do "Clone" anytime.
Very well done. I played it so differently. Im absolutely gojiras biggest fan so...you know. Ill be watching any videos of them you put out
Always great lessons my friend! I dont really listen to Gojira but I might now. Cool sounds. See ya around! 🤘🏻😎🎸

Sounded fantastic Uncle Ben. Would love to see some Neurosis riffs, or Bongripper :-)
Thanks uncle Ben! My favorite gojira song demystified for me. I learned a whole lot. You've earned a subscriber
To Sirius please! These noises in second riff are really cool
Thanks uncle Ben
Black Crown Initiate shirt! Very good taste Uncle Ben 👍🏽
Oh holy shit you actually mentioned Morbid Angel here. Thanks for that mention. MA's later albums REALLY need the attention, especially with how much Gojira is getting with what is basically MA's Tucker-era formula. Hah, I made that pun again.
You know, I was learning specifically how to do this riff by ear, and it was near impossible to distinguish some parts. Thanks for helping, Uncle Ben.
Thanks for this!! I love that record, " From Mars to Sirius"!!
Love your channel man. Good stuff!!!
First song I ever heard from Gojira as well! This song is where it all started for me \m/
Hey Uncle Ben, with the upcoming movie "Bohemian Rapsodey" I would like to learn the lead guitar to it. You're awesome as always, thanx!!
i cant even play these, i dont know why im watching but i like it
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEOO, I love gojira and I always thought how this song is off for me when I play it..
I love u for this Uncle Ben
Also if you could do liquid fire that would be incredible

ESOTERIC HEALING. From their Way of All Flesh album. Those are some bad ass riffs..........
Esoteric surgery noob
My bad. Excuse the fuck out of me...........
Heaviest Matter please. There is one ok video that I'm using, but I can't help but feel a couple of things are off in it.
thanks for the break down, playing with the thumb helps on the majestic parts
You can never get enough Gojira
so cool lesson
That Les Paul is a thing of beauty.
Yeeees, more Gojira!!!
Hey, uncle Ben, how about a Matt Pike video?
The act of dying is really interesting and full of juicy riffs
Do you mean The ART of Dying?
Please do "Remembrance"! That one is almost near impossible to hear what's going on!
A video on explosia would be awesome! I can't really get it right and it seems to me that most people on RUclips play it wrong
Great video.
Nice les Paul! One of my favorite guitars!
hk Hj thanks man! I love it so much!
That's a sweet crunchy crank ...
From the wank bank......
Thanks again Guru Ben.....
Anything from The Way of All Flesh! Thanks for the vid

It's the same as in this song. One plays it 2 frets higher i believe
@@Celatra yeah I know, the problem is to find the actual chords, I can't figure out what strings and frets they're actually playing lol
@@roccoblackness I think it's D then a AC Athen D A tap to C
And the second riff I Don' even
Powerchorded they are
@@roccoblackness then the other would do F#-A
Maybe it's just me
I don't know if I prefer the Gojira riff or the intro song now.
Always love your Wankshop lessons! I think what you should add too would be the scale that they're playing in? Unless that's too complicated
Thank you for saying you're my best buddy, Uncle Ben. I feel loved :')
Whoah nice Black Crown Initiate shirt!
wait but this riff always seemed pretty straightforward? this is how i always thought of it being played
Hey, that bands merch your wearing is local to me! Pretty cool to see on youtube
We don't care what you play, we just care that you play!
Nah, I lied, we care what you play.
Just wish I could play as good as Uncle Benjammin
amazing thank you! all those tabs didn't "feel" right, but this!

Gojira is so fucking metal
The Magma riff though... The f**king Magma riff!
Your intro is a reference to mega man and castlevania. Any chance of a weekend wankshop for any video game songs?
Thanks for This I was playing it à little bit wrong
Are thought about doing a live stream, Ben?
Oooooo. I like that rumble at 7:56.
Could you please break down a solo from Cause of Death by Obituary? My personal favourites are Chopped in Half or Infected. Thank you!
Would be awesome if you could do Born in winter
Ahhh got step dad's ol' Les Paul out do ya?
So heavy!!
Backbone is hard to hear detail on too, be handy to see that one. Simple as it sounds
Can you do “where dragons dwell”. That be awesome 🙌🏻

Show us how to play THE ART OF DYING!
In Stuff Gojira does the first cord starts at 3? That feels better but in this video you start at 4. Great lesson.
Can you do one on that super fast verse riff of Carcass's Heartwork of which no accurate tabs seem to exist?
Definetly do carcass!
The breakdown is absurdly heavy
Sick video , but Uncle Ben c'mon ! You have a 5150 and you use the Kemper for a Gojira riff ?
Fuck. I love Gojira so much.
6:45 ooooooh
Have you considered the String Butler for your Les Paul? Just bought one for mine some weeks ago, and it's amazing! The D and G tuning holds so much longer!
PlayMusic! No, but it is intriguing! This one definitely suffers from the out of tune G problem.
