I definitely found when I first started repairing old tube radios that having the tube data sheets for pin outs helps a ton, I remember looking at a all American 5 thinking why are these caps and resistors going back to pin 6 on a 35L6 that makes no sense?? Oh wait the data sheet says it’s unused, OH wait there’s a hidden black wire I didn’t see grounding it and they are using it as a ground point.
Technically, the 6V6 (and 6L6) are 'beam tetrodes'. Careful alignment of the control and screen grids and beam forming plates perform the same function as the suppressor grid in the true pentode.
Great stuff, very good of you to do this primer. My revelation moment was discovering the negative end of a polarised cap always goes to ground. Took me a while to figure that out!
Elementary dear Skunkie ;) Oh, except that Euro solid box for inductor.. Somehow never registered that before The down triangle I use for midrail 'ground' in a single supply FX pedal ... The multi-lined down arrow is usually meant as chassis 'frame' ground like where the elec inlet grounds to metalwork - often drawn separately to prevent ground loops Ah, hold on, in the Euro way, lines crossing DON'T connect UNLESS there's a dot - that could be confusing if you're used to US schem's - (I was told NOT to use the lil arch-over, deprecated, but hey its good for clarity) Oh, over here I usually see zeners just drawn with ONE bent leg, pointing in, so'z not to confuse with Schottky's And folks DON'T confuse Internal Screen with tube's IC='Internal Connection', not meant to be connected to ANYTHING, right ?

I have a Willsenton R8 and I'm waiting to hear your thoughts about it. I have a matched quad of nos russian tubes 6p3s-e which sounded wonderful on a 5881 amp.Electrically they work on Willsenton R8 but the question is If the electronic design of Willsenton is made to offer maximum performance with them. Thank you for these basic tutorials! I am basically new to electronics and consider myself an audio file. I am interested in purchasing a Chinese tube amp and making modifications. In your opinion what is the least expensive option that will give me the best room filling sound and fairly tight base? It seems like the A12 is a model that you were able to get great results very affordably. I would love to see photographs of the final modifications on this amplifier. Also how would you set up a subwoofer with tube amplifier? Would you simply use an RCA splitter from the preamp? thank you again for your wonderful videos. The first video I watched everything was completely foreign and now that I have watched many of them I am starting to understand the jargon!
A12 + mods is the best low cost entry point. I did a whole video series showing step by step how to mod them and have before and after schematics on my website.

Not always. In a negative bias supply the positive terminal goes to ground.
