I have restored many of these Benz’s over my time in the trade and loved every minute of it. As magnificent as your video is, it cannot capture that amazing old Merc smell when you open the door. That privilege sir, is reserved for you and your guests. Enjoy.
@@HiThere-bu4bs Prices here in Australia are still pretty reasonable, $20 -$25K for a reasonable (driving) 66', and are still one of the best options for doing this sort of ride. They were always my favourite car to fix because Benz put them together in such a way they are simple to pull apart and put back together.
This is the most tastefull rat rod i ever seen. I think it looks very cool and it has tons of character. In any case, the car is better used in this form than thrown in some scrap yard. I hope it's still running today.
Honestly, I'd rather see it in this condition being driven than sitting on the scrapyard. Not my cup of tea, but I have to admit that the car has a lot of character and in the end, everybody is free to do whatever they want with their car. Nice job keeping old classics alive in an different but cool way. Stay safe.
Exactly!! The original build plan for this car was a super nice paint job.basic nice driver. But when I was prepping it for paint I removed over two inches of Bondo from various places including the rear quarter panel a rear door .the front fender was completely made out of Bondo and the other side was filled in where all the rust was. Most people who like "nice" looking cars would have sold off the trim and drivetrain then sent the rest to the crusher.. .
👍👍from this guy Bad ass looking car with a beer cooler in the trunk, bottle opener on fender and a cup/beer holder.👏👏👏👏 Great job on music and the editing ✌
Fantastic car, video and song. It all works. So many elements at work on the Benz. Harmoniously hewn together. It reminds me of bike builders Billy Lane, and Shinya Kimura?(Zero cycles?) more creative and daring work on their choppers. Can FEEL and SMELL that car through the screen! Talented.
Such a cool Merc. I love the f*ck -it attitude with these ratmods. The beer can/bottle holder in the left fender and the bottle opener "tops it off" for me...brilliant!
very nice- and never seen before - the little stars on the headlights. Anyway, what a nostalgia ... my father had the 190, and that's the first car he taught me to drive on (I was 15)
Great idea for that video, to prevent a dead Mercedes bring back in life. Also the "German" licence plate at the front end, very well! Greetings from Germany 😀👍
My Dad had a 64 240sl 4 door. gas engine, automatic. he loved that car, and kept it beautiful until New England winters just rusted it away. Then my brother drove it for a few years, before he sold it. I took my license test in it at 17. I ever get rich, Im going to have one restored just like it !
We call them "Heckflosse" or "Fin Tails" and the W110 chassis models (which this one is) were a great base model and are still well loved and coveted on the vintage Mercedes Benz Scene. They were available in a 4 cylinder gas, 4 cylinder diesel, and 6 cylinder gas. There larger siblings, the W108/109 sedans, and the W111 and W112 Coupes and Sedans are highly sought after still. In nice, or fully restored condition, they sell for tall dollars. The W111 Coupes and Cabriolets were the pinnacle of 1960's Mercedes design, and featured mechanically injected straight 6s, and even evolved into models with power everything, and large electronically injected V8s.

I think 1968 had something to do with the chrome strips on and under the boot lid, ie above the rear bumper. I myself had a 200d -67 and an acquaintance a 200d -68 both w110. ruclips.net/video/s1KMjLpztmc/видео.html
@@seriksson9721 The car in the video appears to be registered here in the US, and I believe in '68, the W110's shipped to the US had orange side marker lights in the front fenders, and red side marker lights in the rear fenders (wings if you're in the UK?). I can't speak to how they were trimmed out for the UK or Europe, because I don't know that much about them. I've owned 4 of them, and only the '68 had side markers.
Everything about this film is absolute perfection, start to finish! Very original, beautifully shot and bang on soundtrack. Really did this amazing car justice! Kudos!
It is under the air cleaner near where the shocker mount upper nut is remove the air cleaner box and carefully scrape the area delicately so as not to level the embossing
You inspired me to bag my w110 200d Just installed AC also. Now I need your permission to steal your cup holder idea. I realize there is no hood place under the hood to place a beer. From Florida.
That has to be the coolest old Merc I've ever seen. Great to see it out on the road and not just rotting in a field.

How much do old Mercs go for and how hard are they to fix?

Thanks for the info, they are probably harder to come by in Michigan because of the moisture and the swamps
