  • Music and personal growth are deeply intertwined for Alex Riggs, a talented songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist with a longstanding presence in North Carolina’s Triangle music scene. As Riggs puts it, “This whole thing is a constant evolution, and it ends when I end.”
In June, Riggs unveiled "Egg," the debut album of her new project, Riggings. This album marks a significant milestone, reflecting Riggs' journey as a trans woman and showcasing an expanded musical palette and newfound confidence as a performer.
The production of "Egg" highlights the collaborative spirit of North Carolina’s music community. Much of the album was recorded at Betty’s-the studio of Durham’s own Sylvan Esso-and features contributions from local musicians like Libby Rodenbough of Mipso on the single "Old Bones." The album also pays homage to the queer and trans artists who have influenced Riggs, including Mya Byrne and Patrick Haggerty of Lavender Country-the band behind the first known gay-themed country music album, eponymously titled Lavender Country, released in 1973.
Join us as we delve into Riggs’ artistic journey and the making of "Egg." Come Hear NC caught up with her in Durham’s Rockwood Park after her recent performance at one of the city’s most beloved queer spaces, The Pinhook.
