It has abundant natural beauty so way before people referred to it as "God's own country" Do some looking back five or ten years and you will see even the government (both state and central) advertised it as such domestically and overseas. U.P. no doubt has a lot of religious sites and history but never has this kind of phrase be used to market it, therefore there is some mix up. Anyway it's only a phrase and who ever wants to use it whatever way is free to do so.
