I'm so glad Derren was responsible with his skills. He always seemed to genuinely want to help people while exploring the way our minds and bodies work. Imagine the damage that could be done with those skills in the wrong hands.
This has been the best episode (both of them), I have seen from Derren so far, just wow! I absolutely love how you give us knowledge, and ability to discern and put things into separate containers where they belong. I love how there seems to be a progression with things I have seen from Derren, where you disillusion people about Faith Healing and such, as well as actually perform magic on stage. And then this episode is so beautifully empowering! And what I am realizing lately, is that we ourselves are that magic pill, for our own lives, this magic is really in us. I love this so much. And thank you Derren a lot for all you do! I love how there is so much positive concern in you for people's wellbeing ❤❤❤
Haha. I was wondering why the hell is Derren Brown doing a shady pharma documentary when enlightenment hit. lol. Heartrate of the medical assistant is absolutely epic. Derren Brown, you wonderful man. I just love how your mind works. What I really like about your work is that there's such a good will for people.
I'm kind of amazed anyone would see that Derren Brown was involved and not immediately conclude "oh, this is just a placebo". If you've seen any of his programs it's obvious
Tony Hawk literally gets told every day that he looks like that famous skateboarder so... I'm pretty sure you wouldn't recognize him either, despite the fact you know of him ;)
It doesn’t matter. What Derren said on the step is the point. It’s convincing enough for these people to give themselves permission to change. Interestingly placebos even worked in medical trials when the users knew they were in a placebo. The placebo effect is complex and powerful.
Imagine conning all these people into believing a lie for the sake of audience figures. I really really hope their debrief was actually life changing. I think Darren is a great guy, so I reckon he made sure - despite their initial misunderstanding - that he explained and demonstrated the real power of the drug. Signed, a countdown fan
Derren is confident in his knowledge. He believed he would reduce the fear in the participants to some degree. Even before debrief, the brief to participants would have mentioned the parts of the premise, such as the soldiers and drugs, are for entertainment and they would have received a more accurate rundown of what to expect. Therefore, the debrief would knit together with the brief and the entertainment in between is more for us who see and experience it very differently to the participant. Granted, participants can be neglected - just look at the suicides from other reality tv shows - but I trusted Derren due to his background in psychology, including awareness of experimental design
We all believe many things. We all have emotions. Good to accept those are part of being human-a powerful part. Far as I can see, they all benefitted from the truth about themselves and their place in the universe.
I can't see how these psychological techniques in any way disproves the existence of the "supernatural". The concept of God as an ever-present "source" of Love is not diminished just because we've only suddenly become aware of it. In fact, I would think that it is the lack of awareness of an ever-present source of Love that causes individuals to disbelieve in God.
It's weird that a scientific researcher would say that she has never done something without knowing what the end result would be. Isn't the whole point of scientific research to discover an unknown result? Considering what we now know about the quantum world, I wonder how much of her science has been "tainted" by her expectations.
That is kind of cruel to send that girl in for a musical on the West End. She needs a lot of vocal training and it hurt me to see them kind of dismiss her.
I was going to suggest hypnosis, but I would never have done what he did. I find it highly unethical to hypnotize anyone to do anything without full disclosure and free-will consent.
He has psychologists on call for every part of the show. The participants are vetted for psychological robustness and monitored before during and after the events. They are all aware they will end up in situations unexpectedly
@@RenegadeContext Well, that sounds like "free-will consent", then. It's important to me that people use hypnosis ethically because it's such a powerful tool that if it were abused it could have catastrophic repercussions for not only the subject but also the practioner.
I agree that believing in God because it feels good is perfectly acceptable, but what about all the evidence of the presence of INTELLIGENCE in a supposedly random world? Doesn't it suggest an order in the seeming chaos? And what was the whole satanic rite at the beginning of the episode? I don't see how that factors into this experiment.
@@RenegadeContext Every cell in your body and every molecule in matter exhibits intelligence. The Guy afraid of confrontation knew the bar fight was staged when it was happening. Number one it was quite obvious lol. But also if you look at the video at 23:38 and again at 23:42 you can see a smirk on his face then he starts to laugh. That means he knows this is part of the show. And I dont mean they told him ahead of time, he could just see through the act. He's afraid of confrontation..not dumb! lol
I love how passionate Darren is about helping people.
@matteroffact1186 any evidence for these claims?

My fear goes down when ever I watch or read derren brown.
Our minds are so powerful when we think positive thoughts. And Vice Versa.
The 'you bastard' from the women singing was great 😂
I'm so glad Derren was responsible with his skills. He always seemed to genuinely want to help people while exploring the way our minds and bodies work. Imagine the damage that could be done with those skills in the wrong hands.
Dude when Dan stood up on that bridge, what a legend
The power of magic is great
I love these kinds of experiments Derren!
Derren Brown is the perfect James Bond with all his skills.
I wish we taught the young this knowledge in school.
33:55 Omg, I felt butterflies in my tummy and my feet started to tingle when he leaned over like that!
I can hardly stand to watch them sit there and talk! I wish I could just go pull them both down off that edge!
Derren is a genius!
Plot twist imagine if there all actors and Darren just actually tricking us into thinking he's doing a social experiment
Or they are all actors who are there to convince Darren that he can influence people.
Indeed.

That Dan arc was amazing. He was in the zone.
Another great Darren Brown PRODUCTION .

Placebo effect. Very interesting stuff!
Pretty sure it's scripted not to take the piss out of it. But I afraid so. The Placebo effect is real this is probably not at all

... Dan is now a skydiving instructor 😂
Is this a joke or actually real?!?

I both fear and love Derren
Derren, how come no more shows?
I'll be convinced it works when one of the subjects develops a device that will allow spiders to talk with cats.
