This scene is heartbreaking for any fan. Seeing Scully suffering from a doubt, even if it is unfounded (I think they both loved each other unequivocally at this moment), brings tears not only to her eyes, but to our eyes as well. Scully had a confidant in Mulder for her most intimate subjects, but she was unable to reveal to him the love she already clearly felt. Unfortunately we had to watch her walk down that (damn) endless corridor, to the car, to suffer there together with her, watching the void with damp eyes (even if we know how out Mulder had given Diana, moments before). Great scene, exceptional performance by Gillian.
sadly mulder was sooooo close to going along with Diana's SCHEME and stringing scully along for the punishment. i wonder what would have happened if diana was not shot off screen. like what would have happened if she was still alive and mulder had to make a choice i mean... literally everything mulder did concerning diana seemed like opposite day to me sooooo i could've been mentally preparing myself for mulder to choose diana for whatever nonsensical "reason".

It's the little things that makes great acting. When Diana says "I sense you could have used an ally though. Someone that thinks like you, with some background", you can see Mulder step forward slightly and almost get defensive when he says "Oh you mean Scully", almost protective of her, like he's conveying "Don't go there". Good job by David.
To me he is really not defensive at first and only realizes how everything works and how he feels during this episode. Kind of like in All Thinge where Scully questions „what if“ with Daniel Waterston and realizes she‘d chose her life with Mulder all over again, I think at first Mulder is really drawn to Diana, she is accessable, comfortable, he seems to trust her somewhat and then both realizes she is up for no good, Scully hurts (he really realizes that in the hallway scene I‘d say) AND that he should stop feeling drawn to destructive bitches and start looking at his best friend differently…
IT CLEAR that Scully was jealous. That sad face when she sat in the car. The way her voice sounded thick like she wanted to cry. Totally jealous. But he chose you boo.💞💞💞💞💗💗💗💗
What Scully doesn't know in this scene is that Mulder is actually defending her to Fowley. He's in love with her too, even if he hasn't said it out loud yet (that happens in the very next episode, Fight The Future).
I love the way Scully rolled her eyes when Diana was introduced as being a "para-scientist". Scully is the real deal and she scoffs at Diana's "title". You're it Scully, no one can come close and Mulder knows it too.
Scully is wearing the same outfit she was wearing in “Fight the Future” hallway scene where Mulder confessed that he couldn’t do this without her and they almost share a kiss. I wonder if that was purposefully done, as she sees Mulder holding Diana’s hands in what looks like a romantic exchange. She has no clue it was NOT a romantic exchange and in fact Mulder pretty much told Diana he didn’t need her!

Scully has nothing to worry about she is beautiful and Fowley...well....she's a troll. Did anyone else catch the quick instant Scully clutches the keys to her heart....so indicative of her investment in Mulder, the X Files, and them.
Fowley looks like she was in a serious car crash and they did the best they could to put her face back together. This should have been the end of the MSR. It was tainted after this. Mulder shouldn't have been forgiven. Carter doesn't respect women or scully
mmmm these words are too kind to fowley. and i agree wholeheartedly with the rest of this comment, before i thought i was the only one who thought Mulder needed to learn what he was TAKING FOR GRANTED. But i am very hard on Muldo.
Diana Fowley probably helped Scully finally put her feelings for Mulder into perspective, without her intro we wouldnt have known how Scully really felt. Sometimes the punch in the gut helps🙂
Were there any scenes of Mulder being jealous over Scully in this way? It seems to me there were a number of scenes throughout the show where Scully displayed this kind of reaction, but never the reverse.
He was jealous over her date with Rob in S1 E5, he asked her if she could cancel when she told him about her date. Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, Dreamland and with Doggett (he saw red when Doggett was around). Remember how when they were apart Mulder usually called her for everything: War of the Coprophages, Sleepless, Little Green Men those phone calls are probable jealous Mulder just making sure she's still around..
He was surely jealous in Never Again with the way he acted when she told him he that she had a date and then how he acted like an ass at the end of the episode. He was also jealous in Miligro (the writer next door). Then in Hollywood AD where that producer kept playing with his head hinting that Skinner and Scully has a thing going on. And how he reacted when "Movie Scully" told "Movie Mulder" that she was in love with Skinner.
yup UNFORGIVABLE and mumbling along with Diana why couldn't he tell her straight that ha pussy stank and the past is the past. He's got hot chilli Scully nowadays mulder u fool U FOOL did he get amnesia after he tried to kiss her in the movies hallway scene or?????
He's been a jerk. I usually love Mulder, but sometimes, he just doesn't understand absolutely anything. I mean, she's totally in love with him and he doesn't understand her, and he keep hurting her, staying on Diana's side. Like, what's wrong with him? Really. And then, for me is so heartbreaking to see Scully like this, expecially if it's because of him. He forgot that one year earlier she was ready to kiss him? (4x20)

@@elisagiambartino3483 I love it bc we really see a side of Scully we don't get to see. One, almost a recognition that she has finally admitted to to herself that she is in love with Mulder. Two, She was in the same building as him, called him from the garage to purposely pill him away from Fowley by telling him to meet her at the office. Three, That isn't generally something Scully does. This isn't a logical or rational choice. It's a choice of love threatened. And Scullys actions aren't typical of a friend. They are for a lover or someone in love. This scene screamed it! Four, They usually show some sort of care or love when something dangerous, emotional, or intense is happening. This was pure jealousy. I liked seeing this side of Scully. Deeply vulnerable and beautifully manipulative in the best way.
