Thanks Zach! I'm going to have to try this. I always just pick them off, but it only takes a couple missed days for them to get out of control. Ugh! I use duct tape on the eggs which helps a ton.
I might have to try the duct tape deal again. I was actually just out putting the dogs to bed and sprayed it again. Hitting it often for a few days in a row seems to help.
We have been keeping a container of water, and pick the squash bugs and put them in the water to drown them. But this way they are in my fingers, which the smell is horrendous.
Easier to simply put the soap into a hose-end sprayer and have at it. Spray when there is no sun on the plant. Wait 20 minutes and rinse off the plant so you avoid damage from the soap.
Awesome. Thx Zach. I tried soap and water last year but... it didn't see to work... I hurt the plants too.(e.g. cucumber) I needed up just pickin' and squishing (gross). I'm gonna try it again... what ratio did you use? e.g. 1 to 1, 1oz to a gallon of water or????
Actually I’m not 100% sure. It’s certainly not 1 to 1. I generally do a good healthy squeeze I guess into the 1.5 gallon tank sprayer. More than I’d wash dishes with. How’s that for a technical description! Haha. For me, I generally notice pretty quickly that they start crawling up the stalks. I gather trying to get away from the water they think is keeping them from being able to breathe. Within a few minutes they stop moving and a short time later are dead. Hope that helps clarify things. Good luck!
@@microhomesteadecology lol. Thx for the reply. Ive lost several plants to those buggers. I tried soap n water..n but i thunk that was on cucumbers. I read/ watched another video... they said to spray the soap off after 30 minutes. Gonna try that next. Take care and thx again.
I squish them 😊
Nasty little things! They smell very strong when you squash them, and I think I heard somewhere that the smell will bring in more.

I know right!! And it has a tendency to just hang around for quite a while!

That's an interesting idea!
thats one of the main questions i havent got any answers to yet.. when should you rinse off the soapy water from the plants ..thank you ..
he never gave a ratio of soap to water
I don't measure any specific amount. I just put in a good amount so I'm sure it's good and soapy.
