  • Other sources of this sound very compressed with little detail in the higher frequencies, this is the best source I've heard of this performance.

Thank you for the effort to improve so many live recordings. But, sorry if I look unfair...the sound seems a bit weird to me. Every soloist seems closer, with more définition, but their voice seems to be much more metallic, and without the theater's natural resonnance, the roundness the hall can give.

That's the sound mix, which I can't do much about. It all depends on the sound engineers handling the taping. I could only reduce noise and fix uneven sound levels (A real problem with most recordings)

Verrett was a great singer but to me her Carmen sounds more deranged than seductive. It is like Carmen is Azucena’s daughter and picks up after her mother.
A matter of opinion of course.

Saw all these performances. Van Dam the star of the show.

😮I only caught the revival with Troyanos (and subsequently Ludwig and Vickers conducted by the then somewhat unknown Lobos-Coboz). I seem to remember people were disappointed with Verrett. The production was a pretty boring affair though. The sound quality is truly excellent - thanks so much.
