I'm disappointed with the video. Could we at least get a shot of the pumpkin flight at some point, or a little perspective of where it landed compared to where it was fired from?
@Revis actually if you look into plant science squash tomatoes watermelons are considered fruits because they carry their seeds in a protective casing above ground. Anything that has edible roots ect is a vegetable, so carrots beets horseradish radishes ect. But yea any person or grocery store will call it a vegetable.
Yes, in 2009 we set a new World Record shooting a pumpkin 4,623 feet/1,541 yards. In 2010 we returned to Moab and broke our own World Record with a shot of 5,545 feet/1,848 yards!
For all of you saying that that is not a pumpkin, at 0:53 you can tell that it has ridges, Which watermelons do not have. you guys act like you've never seen a green pumpkin before…
At the time, Guinness labeled the World Record category as 'vegetable chucking', and have since renamed it to 'farthest distance firing a pumpkin.' At the time we were being asked to shoot watermelons from Green River, UT - the self proclaimed watermelon capital of the world.
@snowyphil65 Although scientists will tell you that a fruit is seed containing fleshy thing formed after a flower has been pollinated, a linguist will tell you that some fruits are vegetables. Basically any fruit that isn't one of the traditional sweet fruits we think of as fruits is called a vegetable. What makes it a vegetable? A shift in the definition of vegetable that occurred when a large percentage of the population decide to make that shift. However the masses use a word becomes proper.
Wonder if it could fire an artillery shell. If so, than the US is safe from invasion considering the fact most people in the country own guns and know how to build these things.
@@nelsoncr2817 i award bird hunting pumpkin guy with 30f more hight cause the bird deliberately rammed into the pumpkin so he would get disqualified, perhaps it was even a robo bird

with that amount of pressure i would keep some distance from that thing... Might not look like much but if it blows... Not nuclear mushroom cloud or anything, but no problem taking a limb or a life.
Serious question.......why do you call it the "world championships" or call the winner the "world champion" when there is only entrants from the USA? Surely the winner should be the US Champion?
Did you get premission to bring that HopDevil into the state of Utah? There is a special tax on alcohol, and you are expected to comply. Do not mess with the states monopoly on alcohol.
Define: Vegetable An edible part of a plant other than the fruit or seed. Define: Watermelon A vine like, flowering plant from south Africa, or its edible fruit. Unless "watermelon" in this context refers to the vine, leaves, root, or other non-ovular component, a watermelon is not a vegetable.
Sorry, ACDC, but the watermelon looking thing is actually a La Estrella pumpkin! Not only are they great ammunition, but they make a mean pumpkin pie! Citron melons were used during the 'steroids era' of World Championship Punkin Chunkin (2011 event), and have since been deemed to not be pumpkins. During his interview, co-captain Ralph alludes to a melon with regards to Green River, UT ('the Worlds Watermelon Capital') - we didn't get to shoot any while we were out in UT.

Yankee Seige broke the world record-3045 feet
Moab, Utah!
I hope the shooting field is surrounded by a fence, in case a climber was there and got shot with a pastek.
@TheBlitzvideo more solid & holds together better that way, right?
Bad title. They were going for vegetable tossin record, so melons and watermelons are fair game.
so basically it's a fruity V 3 conversion?
They need a PGA or NFL camera man filming this...!!!! I wanna see records not hear them!
Fus ro DAH
Video could have been done so much better

This video the so frustrating to watch
I heard some guy hit a bird with a pumpkin after a launch and got disqualified. If anything, he should've gotten bonus points.
GamerZero, no he shouldn’t.
BUBBLES IOS it’s not his fucking fault
Bird's fault, didn't read the NOTAMs.

Oh yes fatal event for sure!!
Looks as though these guys use a sabot to launch the melon.
She said the Big 10 inch. LMAO
Wow you're so funny. Good job liking your own comment.
Where did it go? lol
Grow the| pumpkins and watermelons in a mold the sam| size as the dia,of the| barrel
Pull a vacuum of at least -14 on the barrel and you can nearly double the performance.
Oh Lucifer.... Constantly mocking us pathetic little humans
Well ok. What was the World Record Distance? Hello?
I bet if you keep the cannon from wobbling side to side it will go further
Really this is for the kids ? Whats with the beer ?
Serious question.......why do you call it the "world championships" or call the winner the "world champion" when there is only entrants from the USA? Surely the winner should be the US Champion?
Some people have too much time on their hands.
Thats not a pumpkin it doesn't count
Is spraying a punkin down with pam or cooking oil allowed?

Many teams from outside the US taking part in the championships ? (I read they shot one over 1600 meters a while ago !).

Since when do questions end in periods?
now lets try it with real shells
That was also us! 2010 though...
air cannon sucks
hell yes!! awesum
why?
One Shot Every 30 MIN :)
Since when is a melon a vegetable?
watermelons are both vegetable and fruit.
As an engineer... Why is the Canon not at 45 degrees
Because while 45 degree is theoretically the best launch angle, when you take into account air resistance, it is best around 30 degrees for distance
@@smad333 awesome!!! Thanks...I hope to be there in person someday!! The power.. The rush
Are they not allowed to use gunpowder?
Nope, rules state no explosions
Children in Africa could have eaten those pumpkins.
+Clearwaters they try to send them... aint you seeing that?
Nice try, but you'll need a bigger cannon..
+Clearwaters By the time many of them are chunked, they're starting to decompose, anyway.
Try Coconuts....
Assasination attempt one
but why
It's fun
you know this is a white people sport. a brother would never waste a watermelon like that
