    Another song from QOTMS. The character is losing control and doesn't feel anything. Cutting with dull knives intensifies pain, thus feeling something.

    When this was released it quickly became their goto song to show themselves off. When Lzzy Hale heard it, she said she wanted to take them on tour. That happened two years later in 2022. This song is short and powerful. Pau is the idea person - she creates most of the songs; but all three contribute considerably to the majority of the songs.

    Angsty Teenage girl things….. I do think people project “boyfriend song” on too much of their stuff (re: MORE, ANIMOSITY, etc )…. But in this case you’re pretty much right on point. Pau has stated she was “going thru her emo phase” when writing QotMS of which this is one of the songs.

    This is the song that pretty much got them on tour in support of Halestorm, when Lzzy Hale saw the performance they did from The Warning Cave during the pandemic. Man, I think I’m going to have to get some scotch to keep up with you! 😎👍

    *Dull Knives*
    a dull knife tears instead of cuts to make a wound... torn wounds are very hard to repair... in this 9th song of the concept album, "Queen of the Murder Scene" (aka QOTMS), the Queen is considering suicide as one way to possibly stop her evil side from taking hold...
    in another of the songs on this album, the lyrics talk about the water in a tub turning red from blood... this is seen as a female way of suicide because the tub would keep the mess all contained and not mess up other parts of the location...
    to me, the lyric "I'm plucking roses but keeping the thorns!" is about seeing, gathering, and embracing beauty while retaining only the darkness and gloom that was used to create and protect that beauty... that's some pretty deep stuff, there!

      Cutting one's wrists in a tub of hot water is intended to prevent blood clotting from thwarting suicide. It is a very ancient form of suicide, for example, it is presumed that the Roman philosopher Seneca tried to commit suicide, although without success, until he entered a steam bath and died of asphyxiation because he suffered from asthma.

      @@DadDaughtersandDrinks No problem. We will wait for you to react to Lunario concert from 2018 when the girls premiered QOTMS along with a few older songs. Probably then you can react to these 2 performances from Teatro as 4 years make a huge difference to a band that has been around for a decade.

    Hard to keep up with you today. Great to see you diving down this rabbit hole. This is a favorite of mine. Yes Joan Jett. Yes punk. Yes all out energy.
    The version of this they did in their basement cave is what caught Lzzy Hale's eye to ask The Warning to join Halestorm on tour.

    To me The Warning is singular in the way that they create music, Pau is clearly the idea person, she often comes up with a foundation for the melody and lyrics on the piano, then she immediately brings ti to her sisters and they all work on it together, plus when composing the bass parts both Dany & Pau participate with Ale, the same for drums and guitars, all 3 are involved and finally when recording they are all there in the studio during all the sessions. I am convinced that this is why they have such a very identifiable unique sound and sych a consistent quality song after song.

    As a "reaction" I only witnessed some attempt to understand the lyrics of the song, something about Pau and the lirycs and... that was it! And to understand the lyrics of this song you must first understand that this song, like some others, come from the concept album "Queen Of The Murder Scene", a tremendous piece of true conceptual art, which was released independently.
    What also amazes me is the age at which they created this amazing concept album "QOTMS" to which masterpieces like "Dull Knives (Cut Better)" and the others belong.
    And that only in their second album created did they decide to make it conceptual...
    Has any other band in the world ever dared to do something so incredible?!!
    Thanks and regards!!

      That's because he's one ANOTHER one of those reactors who, as The Warning's "ERROR" album producer, David Bendeth said, mocked and lamented, has NO IDEA what he's talking about, because he hasn't done ANY research.

    • @squireman123
      @squireman123 9 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a little harsh. He’s going through the entire concert of a band he’s falling down the rabbit hole with. He praises each song and is trying to interpret the lyrics - far better than reactors who simply say everything is great and end the video. He simply doesn’t know which songs are from the Queen or the Murder Scene album, which means each time he hears one it sounds dark and angsty. At least the theme is coming through each time. That’s a tribute to the songwriting - both lyrics and music.

    • @DadDaughtersandDrinks
      @DadDaughtersandDrinks  8 месяцев назад

      I'm confused a little by the above; were you saying that David Bendeth mocked and lamented reactors who don't do research before listening to the album?

  • @mt4design2
    @mt4design2 9 месяцев назад +1

    "I'm plucking roses but keeping the thorns." You mentioned in a previous video that their lyrics are like poetry. Yes. When you react to the entire album there are themes that appear throughout. One of the themes on QOTMS actually has to do with roses and thorns which appears in several songs. They do this as well in the Error album where many themes carry through the songs. Looking forward to When I'm Alone.

    Wow, you've taken a difficult task! Trying to understand the lyrics outside of the QOTMS context which which tells the story of a disturbed young woman's inner journey from desire to obsession to murder and madness. The songs are told from the point of view of either the young lady's inner psychopath or her good side, which has a conscience. IMO this is best performance to see the story developped and played by younger The Warnings - sure, the sound is more raw and there are small technicals issues underway! But, consider when they played it first time and be amazed. 2018 QOTMS @Lunario CDMX complete concert: ruclips.net/video/9VciU3gMMUY/видео.html

    Take a more metaphorical approach and the context will improve.

      I can't tell you how much I wish I could. I've always just been an analytical-minded person who is very literal with just about everything. I've tried to be more mentally free with metaphors and similes and such, but it just escapes me.
