    Anecdotally, I don't think MIT has any of the competitiveness that you were describing - Everyone here is also very willing to help with psets or whatever else. I would describe the MIT collaboration culture very similar to what you said about Caltech.

      Wow, that's really awesome!!! It's so cool to hear from an actual MIT student!!! I'm a prospective applicant and have a few questions if you don't mind me asking. Anecdotally, I was walking around campus the other day and saw this really cool guy doing a hairpin turn on a skateboard, who promptly ate shit on a curb. That wasn't a question it was just an observation. Does MIT have a cycling club???? Does MIT have a design, build, and fly team???? What do you to think about the famous class 3.091???? I've heard it's 3-0-9- FUN!!!!!!!! Get back to me when you can please.

I can't imagine a happier place, I know my friend Andrew wakes up every single day ecstatic about going to crew and cranking out 2.002 and 2.005 psets. MIT does have a cycling club but tbh crew is WAY more fun!!! or at least that's what my friends tell me. Also completely unrelated but we have an amazing intro to Western music class!!! I really recommend it. lastly, 3.091 is a whole lot of fun!!!! Definitely take it over 5.111, it's way way better!! Let me know if u have any more questions about MIT or the application process. I actually own a college admissions counseling startup, so I'd be happy to help edit your essays (for a fee of course)

    This video made me realise that while I like medium sized student body, I would like CalTech more because I always wanted to go to LA for school. And it sounds like so me. And while I love that in MIT you don’t need to choose your major until you’re in your sophomore year which is very appealing to me, I feel like the CalTech experience will be a lot more fun. I’ve realised I liked MIT before because of the clout I guess and I would be considered a genius if I go there. But now that I think there’s more to just being considered genius to me but a part of me still wanna consider MIT. But I think I love CalTech too

    You were certainly correct in choosing Caltech over MIT because of the weather and size and such. But then you should have gone to the business school at UC Berkeley (Hass) rather than Sloan. for the same reason. UC Berkeley is awesome and beautiful, and Berkeley is a wonderful and beautiful location.

    • @wamyy5

    I prefer Caltech over MIT because it's smaller & more personal. But you had it the wrong way: MIT was definitely better for Chemical Engineering. Caltech trumps over MIT in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I hated both engineering & natural sciences because I'm put off spending copious amounts of time in laboratories doing experiments & research. But I made a grave mistake majoring in Mathematics instead of Applied & Computational Mathematics because it's insanely hard doing mathematical proofs. I'm more comfortable calculating numerical solutions to mathematical problems in many areas of business such as actuaries, insurance, engineering companies, financial services, etc.

    • @wamyy5
      @wamyy5  2 года назад +5

      That's awesome you want to be a math professor! The coursework at Caltech is very theoretical, no matter what class it is. Even computer science classes have a lot of theory. This means that you will be trained like a true scientist, one of the highest caliber because this school has really tough content and exams that won't find elsewhere. You'll also be surrounded by other people who enjoy pure science and math

    I got my degree at a state university a long time ago. I'm four decades older than you. I knew a young woman who got a degree in psychology at a state university, and she went on to become a major executive at a national bank. She came early and stayed late. She worked very hard all the way up. I think she is in charge the bank's operations of a whole region of the country. My sister got a degree at Oklahoma State University, and she became a CEO at a savings and loan company. I haven't done that much with myself. A lot of it was because I have aspirations to write, but most of the great writers were dead before I got started.

    Wonderful video, but I think you got one thing wrong about the statistics. Not sure, but I think you did. Caltech has 900 undergrads and MIT has 1,500 undergraduates. The 4,000 is I think the class strength of MIT across all four years. Thanks a lot for the informative tips!

    • @wamyy5

    Pro location for Pasadena over Boston. Big Con for Boston is not just the weather, it's also the most racist city in the country. But I like the academic calendar at MIT being semester vs. whatever Caltech calls it's academic calendar these days or quarter system. As a senior citizen I only recall things I learned on semester system, I had more time for the material to sink in. The quarter or trimester is always cramming cramming cramming for tests, not the greatest way for my learning style apparently. Everything I learned at quarter system was a waste of money and time in the long run. But you are right about the generally friendly collaborative atmosphere. From someone who's been to all kinds of schools between undergrad and grad, but nothing anywhere near Boston.

Since I am middle aged "black" man, sometimes rhe students and securiry racially profile me because they either don't know/care my IQ is 140 and I even attended Medical School. So I stopped visiting Caltech campus 🤣.
    However, I'm absolutely positive the college exoerience at Williams is much deeper and impactful than either Cal Tech or MIT. Plus I'm RARELY racially profiled when I go back to Williams campus as middle aged guy with gray hairs. 😊 👍
