After reading the title I can't help but think "welcome to the Chinese National business model" I bought a "Made in America, 100% wool shirt" what I got was an acrylic piece of garbage that looked like what I bought. When I saw the shipping label was from inland China & they said my only recourse was to "give it to someone as a gift" I was furious. Being allergic to most synthetic fabrics & a huge proponent of wool really exacerbated things. I discovered their ruse when I read through their "about" page line by line & fact checked it.
At this point, I think it is more than that. I am becoming of the opinion that they are actively working against American interests. It isn't just naked greed... it is malevolence.

My content gets used in Chinese adverts all the time. Including my voice overs. This is why it's really important to have your channel name in shot in every video. (Although they still use the content with the channel name in view!)

Facebook is extracting money from China with those ads. They remove them when there is a complain, but I agree they should do better. Apple is sending billions of our dollars to China and yet people think they are the best. What kind of logic is that. Apple is the worst by far not Facebook. RUclips: Not being paid, takes the fakes down in 20 minutes. Facebook, ebay, amazon: Being paid by the thieves, absolutely no incentive to take the fakes down.
RUclips is getting paid for the ads, just like Facebook. Facebook is using doubleclick for their ad tracking and doubleclick is owned by google who also own RUclips. So your theory is flawed. Apple is sending billion to China and yet people love their product. The worst people in this game are people with Iphone and Macbook. Because they knowingly finance the largest and most despicable criminal organisation in the world. China!
RUclips being "responsive" is just the side-effect of their lackluster copyright system where the Chinese sellers could have just claimed to own the copyright on Shawn Woods' video and channel. RUclips isn't any better, it just has a system which happens to workout this time.

Completely agree with DDRUTOU. Standing up and not accepting this behaviour is not called anting, it's called "doing the right thing". Good luck in your crusade against the copyright pirates.
It's crazy but true our world doesn't care if it makes them richer. The only way to truly cut them out is to not use them at all. Kinda weird but local bought products direct is the only way. Amazon is a way too big to care about local companies.
Sue Facebook under the DMCA. If they protect the infringer, they open themselves up to lawsuits as well. May want to get Leonard French involved to help.
I stopped doing business with Amazon for reasons similar to this a long time ago with only one or two exceptions when I got cornered. They clearly don't care about the consumer they only care about money for themselves they have monopolies on so many products it makes me sick. I asked for a refund from the seller on an eBay purchase when I found out he was just a middleman for a Chinese purchase. I always limit my purchases to North America on eBay so it was definitely a sneaky rule breaking game that many Sellers play. I got a refund immediately. I hope somehow the Lord rewards that young man through your video.
Bro, watermark! Get stickers of your channel logo and stick it on your buckets, traps etc too. And we need to make this video known to Facebook. Maybe they'll sort it out. It's disgraceful
Bigclive does this and it's great. by using stickers/writing/other physical things rather than just editing a watermark in, it becomes a part of the video itself, and doesn't annoy me.
Copyright is an issue everywhere, not just China. I used to make 3D content and it was stolen and sold on Second LIfe by thieves. The software that I used to make the 3D content is stolen all the time and put up on Warez sites. Developers are having to get creative to stop the stealing. Many are going to paid subscriptions.
Yep, nothing new. Years ago I went to an Adobe development seminar and it started with the speaker asking, "How many of you have Photoshop?" Hands go up. "How many of you bought Photoshop?" The room busted out in laughter.
My mom saw the ad on Facebook and said she needed it. I immediately thought it was probably your video. I didn't realize at the time it was being copied until I looked on Amazon and there were tons of copies already, so I used your affiliate link.
I met the owner who made Bunch o Balloons. He is an inventor and developed it with his family, this is his main source of income. He spent years in legal battles fighting fakes, he didn't make any money on it. The fault is not just in China, people in the US knowingly buy chinese fakes because they're cheaper.
Big this! People will always want the cheapest product available and that is available as quickly as possible. Morality and supporting your own community/country goes out the window when money is involved. Just how it is.
@@jedidiah5131 Go to a thrift store and pay $1.00 for a great t-shirt that also recycles some local waste and supports a local business. No reason to ever buy a new shirt in the US.
They use them because they are popular. All three platform remove ads when their is a complain . But I agree they should do better. On the other hand China is not doing anything about it. Because no matter what, you will keep buying Apple product and this is how they finance their criminal organization called the People's Republic of China.
It's not really a "scam". Everything you buy is a cheap Chinese clone of something that used to be made in the USA. People are cheap so they could spend $30 for the original or probably less than $10 for some copy.
This really boils my blood, especially as someone who knows more than most about how China works. There will be no repercussions for these pathetic, uncreative, dishonourable thieves since the governing body quietly supports these practices because money. Spread the information, expose the truth, let informed customers decide with their money.
Repercussions? They will make far more money off this than the original inventor, because they have the resources to advertise it everywhere (using other people's footage) and they are making them in volumes that cut their costs way down.
Small business was sold down the river over 20 years ago. Xi Jinping is looked up to and in cahoots with our elected officials. It’s been over for American small businesses basically since Amazon started Prime!
Excellent presentation! We hear about the industrial, technology and science thefts from China all the time! Now we need to protect the small guy working his way up!
Just a tip. If you are going the watermark route be sure to at least pop it at random times and random positions in the video. Otherwise they just stamp their own watermark on top of yours
They don't care. They just use English-language videos from RUclips because they want something that mentions the product and isn't in Chinglish. As long as the watermark doesn't cover the product, they'll gladly use the video anyway.
Well duh, you wanna make sure you don't offend anyone so you have the most amount of people to advertise to with dodgy ads. Gotta maximise those profits baby
Same with RUclips. It went well with RUclips for this special case. But RUclips are just as unethical. They often demonitize videos - and then presnet the videos with *own* ads the video owner foesn't get any money for. Ethics isn't exactly at the top of the priorities for yhe bigger companies. Their main goal is making the companies selling the ads happy. Not the content creators.
while true, companies are made of people. Not all of which are likely to be unethical, so with enough pressure they will either adapt to their customers, or go under. RUclips has changed many times. the most recent was the uptick in listening more to content creators. Which imo is a good thing. Enough people demanded a reasonable change and it happened. Have a nice day. :)
Just FYI, watermarks in the corner are easily cropped. They will crop out your watermark, flip the video horizontally, and adjust saturation to make the copying harder to auto-detect. Better put your watermark right over the trap itself.
RUclips's the only company who took the stolen videos down! This time it's not RUclips's fault. The biggest offender is Facebook, unsurprisingly. They have no ethics.
With 1.5 million subscribers with a very unique niche, Shawn is a RUclips superstar and YT knows it. I assume that Shawn doesn't have that type of notoriety with the other platforms mentioned, while those "advertisers" are spending their money on these other platforms to sell a stolen design using pirated video footage. I would hope and believe that there are lawyers out there willing to represent Shawn and RinneTraps. I think there would be great interest out there if Shawn would video document this legal process as thousands of others out there have dealt with similar frustrations. Meanwhile, RinneTraps should immediately apply some distinctive branding with the Made In America flag directly onto the product, even it's just a decal to distinguish it more.
You’re right, this is disgraceful. These scoundrels are stealing your work and the inventor’s design. Amazon refusing to do anything about it gives me one more reason to dislike Amazon.

It is definitely time to sue Facebook for copyright violation. Their terms/conditions that require arbitration only apply to content that you personally posted to Facebook. You have made your good faith attempt to resolve your claim using their DMCA compliant system, and they have refused to act, this means that they no longer have protection from copyright violation under the DMCA and are directly liable for monetary damages resulting from the infringement. edit: added the word violation
It's not so much that giants see profit - it's that they rip off another person's work in order to make those profits. Any one of those China companies could make a variation of the trap, use a different color, etc, and blaze their own trail. But they'd rather use existing video work and an existing design. That's the difference between modifying a design and knocking off a design. That's where the moral violation comes in. It's unethical. And apparently Big Tech would rather side with their Chinese godfathers.

Social media sites and Amazon need to be held responsible for this. They’re cashing in so there’s no motivation. Foreign policy needs to get tougher on China as well. Make them feel the consequences.

I submitted the story to Ars Technica, hopefully one of their journalists will do a story about this. Keep an eye out for them to contact you just in case. If it gets media attention, Facebook will be forced to do something to save face. If they don't take them down there's likely a lawsuit to be made, since they ignored a clear takedown notice. You really need to talk to a lawyer about this.
This is not new. Back in the late 1960s my friend went with his parents to Hong Kong and came back with cheap knockoffs of real products. It is the culture of the Chinese to do that. But instead of selling off the streets of Hong Kong, they now have tech complicitors that allow them to sell their rip-offs inside our homes.

Bruh, this has been happening for several decades. Even Chinese brands in China get copied and counterfeited in China. If you want to hire a lawyer, it might get you somewhere, but ultimately it's likely a lost cause.
Even shitty Amazon rips off popular products and sells them under their own 'amazon basics' brand name. I'm sure the commissions they make on pirated goods is incentive enough to keep them from taking it more seriously.
This is unfortunately becoming a common practice with Chinese businesses. There are ethical businesses based in China but the ccp has no interest in punishing unethical and illegal businesses that harm US manufacturing. So be careful who you order from.
If anything, they probably encourage it. A weaker US is better for them, they've been stealing tech and other information for years on end from all countries yet we all kowtow to them
I live in Shenzhen and sell on Amazon, and these companies don't just target small companies and or US based, they target everyone the moment you have a selling product. It's a pity that Facebook doesn't care, but hey that's Facebook for you. The best thing to do is actually buy the product using the payment method of their websites and afterwards claim a copy write/fraudulent seller to the payment gateway(PayPal or what ever else). Get your money back and the payment gateway gets closed forever for the seller and more than just your purchase will get confiscated. Because that's the true bottleneck of those operations, payment gateways.
With Facebook & Amazon they'll only listen to lawyers, and shun the rest because lawyers have enough power to truly have a effect to their bottom line.
Just the Chinese business and big tech? Not all the others that constantly rip people off, like Chrysler, Ford, Apple, Amazon, GM, Microsoft, Alphabet (parent company RUclips and Google) nearly every real estate business and used car lot on the planet, most banks, and insurance companies, Politicians (of every party or affiliation) pharmaceutical companies. Basically any entity that chases profit.
Nothing is more uneducated as believing a single country is exclusive to fraud and rip offs. Intelligent people focus on the issue not the scape goating
What I think it, sadly, comes down to is that you have to strike with a lawyer. Fb has to take those seriously. Well, as long as the case per se holds water on the strikers part.

I asked for a refund from the seller on an eBay purchase when I found out he was just a middleman for a Chinese purchase. I always limit my purchases to North America on eBay so it was definitely a sneaky rule breaking game that many Sellers play. I got a refund immediately. Copyright is an issue everywhere, not just China. I used to make 3D content and it was stolen and sold on Second LIfe by thieves. They don't care. They just use English-language videos from RUclips because they want something that mentions the product and isn't in Chinglish. As long as the watermark doesn't cover the product, they'll gladly use the video anyway.
Facebook keeps calm about flagrant like this, but flips over and acts ban-happy for the dumbest stuff. Goddamn.
The only place they sell the trap is Amazon.
Kudos, I do the same in my country. 🇿🇦🇿🇦
But both Amazon and Facebook are in the U.S. Do you have an Iphone or Macbook by any chance?

I'm considering buying this just to help the real owner.
Just did this.
Probably hav a cheaper price from China.

Amazon removed your listing.
What a shady world...
Well Expressed, Shawn. Not ranting at all - telling truth!
Similar thing happened to "Aquachigger" a metal detecting website. Some guy in Saudi Arabia stole a couple of his videos and was making money off them. Chigg complained to RUclips and their response was they were considering terminating his channel for filing a false claim. Aquachigger has more then a million subscribers but the other guy has over 4 million. You know who was making the most money for RUclips. But after a few hundred thousand complaints RUclips changed their stance and took down the 2 videos in question and apologized. Time for us to raise some heck for you.
>Aquachigger
>Chigg-
UH OH!
I loveeeeee aquachigger
Big tech companies complaint managing suck
To think that this might be happening to hundreds of hard working Americans every week is outrageous! Good on you for saying something about it.
Rinne's Flip and Slide is only available for sale to the USA and Canada. Yes, I checked their site.
It's hard to be loyal when you can't buy the thing overseas.
I went and reported like 10 listings on Amazon... There are just too many. ugh.
If you don’t like them stealing mousetrap ideas, you’re gonna hate what they’re doing with our military tech.
They're not stealing that. The devilcrats are handing it over on a silver platter.
Hey a political reply to a comment! *grabs popcorn for reply wars as a centrist*
Get your popcorn, there is gonna be some political debate in a RUclips comment section!
It's dangerous to think of Chinese citizens and the Chinese Communist Party/ Chinese military (PLA) as a single unified "them". The CCP did not do a thing about IP within and outside of China which allows some Chinese company stealing designs from the US as well as other Chinese companies that actually invented new things/ideas. Anyway, Chinese citizens don't steal military tech. They are not interested in it. However, the CCP is very interested in stealing our military tech.

Like Luke Bryan says, "I believe most people are good." But damn, the ones that are bad really knock our species down a peg or two.
all people are "good" because good is an abstract concept. these are probably drop shippers, but assuming shawn is correct and this is from domestic chinese businesses are they really "bad" for offering a service for a lesser price to feed there familys? This is unfair, but the action itself is not "bad"
@@jimmothypakistan5223 if a person breaks into your home & steals all of your possessions then puts them in your spare car & steals that as well to get away in and then sells all of your stuff that they stole from you in order to feed there family would that be acceptable to you ? Would you be willing to take the loss or would you want compensation ASAP ?
@@jimmothypakistan5223 Ok Socrates, sure it's an abstract concept, but that which is considered good or bad by the overwhelming majority borders on fact rather than opinion.
@@Savage3OO6 anything considered universally "bad" is always unfair. Good is a relative concept and prosocial/antisocial are far better qualifiers of thr quality of a person rather then an excuse for people to make themselves feel better then othets
Not only did I just buy one thru your link, but they are on SALE right now! $15 off! Thank you!
I think in the future you should put a watermark on all footage showing new mouse trap designs. Should be placed right across the footage, so it cannot be cropped out. Your viewers will understand, and actually appreciate it :)
Amen
@Troy johnson that is what I meant. On all video clips showing off new trap designs and products in action. Him talking, nature and antique traps probably don't need it. Although there is an argument to be made to have all "steal worthy" footage watermarked
@@thorwaldjohanson2526 i think stickers should be a good non annoying watermark on this video
Put it on buckets and traps so it's not annyoing
Need to pass new law to confiscate all the proceeds from the counterfeit sellers from Amazon and eBay, plus penalties to the sellers and Amazon and eBay. Let's brainstorm of any other ways possible to stop the thieves.
Good idea. But corruption rules and I don't think it will happen!
If something like that got through congress the corrupt businesses would probably use it as a tool to file copyright claims against small businesses and get their profits/accounts frozen.
Adopt a "Trial of Possession" policy like that found in the Clans in the BattleTech franchise? No? Too violent and effective?
America has made China the biggest economy on earth with free trade. The answer is to regulate and punish the practices.
If China won't respect patents there should be sanctions
Ha, you mean the same people that made and upheld election laws? Hahaha. Face it, the usa is weak and treats its people like animals on a money farm. You’re all screwed. Everyone hates the usa, even Americans. You’ve been sold out in every way possible by everyone possible
I too saw these ads on Twitter last week. I recognised your footage being used as the ad and wondered if you partnered up with them. I'm glad you addressed this issue. Now I'll definitely know not to buy from these unethical businesses!
Facebook operate in the following manner:
If you pay to promote, you are immune to any rules.
If you didn't pay and it went viral, then you are violating Facebook profit code. You are banned until you pay to promote.
