Hyperopia is perhaps one of the hardest topics to explain, and to fit it into a 4 minute video is an impossible task.
I will be covering different ways of correcting hyperopia and myopia in future videos so don't worry!

Didn't wear glasses til 27 years old. Never knew I was far sighted before that. Always thought it was normal for everything to be blurry when I relaxed my eyes.
Wait, it's not normal for things to be blurry when we relax our eyes? I didn't know lol. I should be getting my glasses soon. +1.00 on both eyes and I heard antiglare helps when driving at night.
U should get worse with glasses is my prediction, sir you need stronger glasses, next yr or 2, sir you need stronger glasses

I probably would have started wearing glasses several years ago if I'd been more aware of the actual effects of hyperopia.
I felt the exact same way when I got my first pair 😂 it only took 4 years of optometry school for me to realise
Hi Anthony. I was really pleased to see this video. Long sightedness definitely isn't so simple and I'd love to see more videos about it. The biggest problem I had was not being believed for years because of the ability to accomodate just like you outlined.

I was long sighted from early childhood and wore glasses from 5 to 46 when I had refractive lens exchange. I was +7.5 and +7.75 and effectively blind without glasses at any distance. The surgery was life changing.
I was 6.5 when i was 10
I didn't start wearing glasses until I was 40 and was just told it was because of my astigmatism - which I never really knew I had (squinting helps). My sister has astigmatism but is near sighted and started wearing glasses at age 7, so I knew what that was. I apparently am far sighted as my prescription is OD (Sphere) +1.00 (Cylinder) -1.25 (Axis) 005 and OS +1.25 -1.25 168 both eyes have an add of +2.25 . My eyes are not bad, I can still see relatively good without glasses, just not crisp, without glasses words especially look doubled or shadowed (if that makes sense). Loving your videos.

I sure do miss not needing reading glasses. I started needing them when I was about 45 years old.

It is good to hear you talk about yourself, with measured by the positive status.
I was diagnosed with Hyperomia when I was younger and prescribed reading glasses, but never really had to use them because, in any normal situation where I need to read something close I can simply put it a little bit away from me or get a bit away from it myself, to a distance where the reading is comfortable again. And if I can't, I force the focus a little bit and as long as it's not a very long reading it doesn't cause any major discomfort really. Although, the idea of being able to have a total relaxed face all the time is very appealing. The only time I really have trouble reading is while I'm in movement, inside a car or something, but that's because I also have kinetosis (motion sickness). I NEED to look at something outside and far away or I feel really really sick.
I have hyperopia but I feel like I'm likely an edge case based on this video. I've been wearing glasses since I was 16months old and have a +6.50 in my right eye and +7.75 in my left eye. I've also had strabismus surgery twice on my left eye and I lack depth perception due my eyes not developing at the same time due to the strabismus.
Similar situation here. I've been wearing glasses since 3 and my vision just got worse throughout childhood/adolescence. At a +5 and +5.5 now and also have a lazy eye. (Thats corrected with glasses). Also would have been good to talk about the pain of eye strain and the awful headaches it causes. I can just about make myself see sans glasses but its not worth it. 😔

Thanks for this. I had my first eye exam at age 48 in July 2022, as I have been experiencing blurred up close vision (presbyopia). I started to experience a little blurred close vision at age 45 but still could see phone text etc. At age 48 almost 49.. my close up vision got to the point I cannot read text no matter how far I held a book or phone away. I ended up in Progressive lens with 2.0 add power and come to find out I needed slight distance correction (.50 diopter in right eye and .25 in left along with -.50 diopter in each eye for astigmatism) The plus power reading in sphere indicates I'm far sighted. What do people with that sort of prescription typically experience as they age and Presbyopia progresses?
Interesting. I'm a +12. I've wore glasses my entire life and have never been able to see up close or far away without glasses.
I had hyperopia due to not enough closeup time, do what myopes do, READ with distance vision 20/20, after lasik, now my eyes will never fail me again, thanks smart phone
What do you mean by do what myopes do?
@@user-go2xi7zq5q activities that are 20 inches or closer, reading, gaming, knitting, sewing, smart phone, laptop. Make sure to have 20/20 distance vision while reading. Reading glasses stop myopia, you need distance vision
My contacts say +4.00/-0.75x180 because I have astigma. But I can't see close up or far away. And I've never been given reading glasses, always normal glasses that I wear all the time. Does this mean I am just far sighted? Or short sighted too? (I have had glasses since a young child)
I am 32 and just been down the road of getting glasses sorted due to my head aches and migraines. I have been diagnosed as long sighted. I started a different job and have experienced computer screens and small writing very hard to read. But I can correct it. Although I can only hold clear focus if I continually move my eyes or only for a second or 2 if I try and look at something. I noticed even driving how blurry things are but I can correct it to read a sign and then back to blur just after.The first glasses seemed to help but only for a couple of days and they started to require more and more focusing and less effectiveness.After 2 weeks I went back. They decided to use 24hr eye drops and retest and resulted in a new script.Due to the same issues when doing the test my eyes were always correcting themselves so I could read the letters.I am on the second pair and unfortunately it has been 3 weeks and I still feel they aren’t strong enough as I can’t hold focus with them on writing this msg. I can get through with out glasses but since having them I have noticed how bad my eyes were. Just want it to be clear always instead of jumping around and constantly trying to focus things up. Hopefully less head aches
I'm 71 and have 20/15 vision.
I'm noticing blurry halos around lights, which I think means my lens is starting to opacify.
I am concerned that getting IOL will negatively affect my long sightedness. Most people have 20/20 after cataract surgery w/IOL lens implants.
I'm used to noticing fine detail at distance: the leaves on trees being very well defined, etc.
Will I lose my farsightedness after cataract surgery?

Can you explain more about hyperopia? My professor said that hyperopia doesnt always mean that you have a blurry vision at near. All my life i thought its like dat. Hyperopia is farsighted so he can see clear at far and blurry at near. He said its not.
Yeah weird one, hyperopia seems to yield clear distance vision at a young age but as we get older it does eventually impact our ability to maintain the focus at all distances. Working on a video right now 👍

Good video, I might have done better in school if I had my glasses for hyperopia earlier. Did not have a decent eye exam till age 20. Had eye strain for years till I got glasses, your music is distracting, sorry,

Exactly the same for me Bruce. I didn't get believed or diagnosed until I was over 4+ which is pretty disgraceful.
I am 32 had glasses since 1st grade and although I am long sighted i have almost never worn glasses. Because my accomodation is so good. Also its hard to get prescribed glasses because i squint to much its hard to relax them appropriately during the exam because how used to it i am. But I also have to focus to see one image up close. Does that also make me wall eyed?
Ask for your eyes to be dilated! It forces your eyes to relax so you can’t accommodate.

Can I have a question?? Does children affect long-sightedness? I have seen somewhere like that...children can only get short-sightedness and long-sightedness will only affect aged persons(like abve 40)
Incorrect, children have can either short or long sightedness 👍
Children can get longsightedness but I think you have been told about presbyopia in older people which does make close viewing more difficult but which is not the same thing.
hi i wanted to know one thing- can hyperopia people also increase their power like people myopians over the year, my father has been wearing glasses for about 10 years and when we last time went for a check up- it was something +1.75, so im quite surprised +1.75 in 10 years, does it not increase like myopians?

Our prescriptions can get worse over time too. Three years ago, I was at about a +1; now I’m higher than a +4 in my worse eye.
HI MR ANTONIO. IN WITH THE RULE ASTIGMATISM THE CORNEA IS STEEPER AXIS 90 . IT MAKES IT MYOPIC. WHY IN PRACTICE WE CORRECT IT WITH A PLUS LENS X90 ... THANKS
Hi Antonio. I seem to remember you mentioning you wear progressives. I just found out I’m mildly farsighted at 22yo (+1.00 +0.75). But I was prescribed progressives with +0.25 Pl and an add of +0.75, mainly so that I can see far away clearly during lectures. But shouldn’t I be able to see at all distances clearly with single vision lenses with my full prescription, at least once I get used to them? When I asked my optometrist this, all he said was “not always”. Is this true? Are there any benefits to progressives for young people? Why do you use them?
