Knee press is a spacing tool, which means up close it's -5 and for a guaranteed punish that works at the most ranges, you'll want to use your far reaching 5 frame, which for most characters means st.lk. If you're getting clipped by the far end then that means the bison used the tool well and you shouldn't be able to punish, but bison also really doesn't get anything from that situation since he's far away and -5. A lot of the punishes you're showing with medium buttons aren't actually punishes because it should be saying "punish counter", you just haven't set the bison to crouch block after knee press is blocked. Sure, you can say "just be close when he uses it and punish" but a good bison player won't use knee press when you're close, which means you either stay in the range where knee press is effective for bison or you go out of range and whiff punish, but now you're way out of range and bison can look for a devil's reverse mix-up, and that's what makes spacing against him kind of pesky. There's this huge range in front of bison that you have to traverse where he can throw out knee press at any time before you can actually reach the range where you'd be able to punish it, not to mention the ranges where knee press is good is the range that is comfortable for a lot of close-to-mid-range characters, specifically those who like to use cr.mp or st.mk for spacing or to start offense. Buttons that are directly countered by knee press. So it's not as straight-forward to punish as you're trying to show here. Bison's legit still very strong, very cheap, and very easy to use specifically because his tools have very finnicky counterplay options compared to how easy they are to throw out. Like, you just can't punish it with a medium button, it's not a thing. You can make him block a medium button, that's a thing, but unless you have a far-reaching medium that's plus like Kim or Aki you're now minus and in perfect range for another knee press.
@gwen9939 I agree 100% with everything you said here. Bison also has so many other mix ups you have to worry about. I am in diamond rank with bison and all of his frame traps everyone knows how to punish so I can't do non of this here lol. Also I hate playing other bison player in Diamond rank. I get destroyed haha.
Better to use lights. Well spaced knee press blocked will make your reversal medium be whiff punishable
@Stiggy771 I agree. I tend to use lights too.
