REMAN INJECTORS - DDP vs. The World!

  • It seems like everyone has a Reman Injector program these days, and we became curious on how we stacked up against some of the others out there.
    Soooo.... We ran down to one of the local parts stores and bought a Cummins 5.9L Reman Injector. Here's what we found!!!

    A couple of quick observations
    Just because other companies, don't measure up to DDP standards doesn't make those companies "evil" of "trying to pull one over" on you. Everyone works to a price and performance level that they believe is acceptable. Think of many injector companies as McDonald's. There's nothing wrong with meals there but they are focused on a different market area than say a 5 star restaurant that might cost you $300 for dinner, DDP is that 5 star restaurant, it's not for everyone but if you want the best, they got you covered!!!
    I've noticed the easy and relaxed relationship Lenny has with his employees, it conveys a great working environment where everyone respects and values everyone else, it's a great thing to see and inspires confidence in the end product !!!!
    Going forward I won't have any other injectors than DDP in my projects !!!!

      We're not trying to look down on any other manufacturers or reman facilities here. We understand that there's a butt for every seat, so to speak. The main purpose of this video was just to show the differences in the product we produce, in comparison to what you might get over the counter and any of the major parts facilities.
      Long story short, a lot of them are not using genuine Bosch products, and there are a lot of Chinese knock-offs out there. You definitely get what you pay for!

    hi ...just to mention engine life is shorter with the bad injectors.
    I also build injectors....the difference between you and them is passion

      We just do our best to treat each injector as it were going into one of our own vehicles, and headed out on a cross country trip.

    Great info as always. What do y’all think about doing videos on the viability of alternative fuels (B100 and black diesel). What effects does it have on different styles of injectors and hpops (both cp3 and cp4). With the retrofit cp3 kits for the newer Cummins and Duramax.

      B100 isn't typically used in On Road applications, as its primary usage is to create lesser blends. But, that's not to say that it wont work as a fuel source.
      It's been our experience that most manufacturers don't recommend the use of bio fuels above a certain percentage. The reasons given for that are lubrication, or the lack there of, with the higher bio fuel blends. They're thicker than traditional No. 2 fuel, and the tolerances within the newer Injectors and Pumps simply cant move the fuel.

    I respect you Lenny, and I am not here to cast stones. But when it comes to idle output I disagree with what you are saying. And NO, I DO NOT WANT TO BUILD INJECTORS, OR TO PROMOTE THE BUILDING OF INJECTORS BY ME, PERIOD. And of course I could be wrong here, but every injector I set up (5.9) I set them to be flowing around 10 or less mm3 for the idle, and with my CR test machines I have a test that I made, labeled SOI, which is start of injection. Spec for it is 14-20 MPA and 0.9-1.2 mm3 (My closed loop measurement system accurately measures down to exactly 0.0245 mm3). These new machines I build are so sensitive, that I NOW HATE building injectors. What used to be spot on after assembly now has to have at least 2-3 injectors come back off and be reset to get them to be 3% total or less. And no I DO NOT want to sell machines either, just sharing my experiences. If I set the injector idle output to be at max specification, then the SOI is 14 or below. This conversely, makes for a very bad idle just as you have described but from the opposite end of the spectrum, with white smoke and rough idle in cold weather. If I set the SOI by using a thicker nozzle spring shim, and reduce the idle output, thereby raising it to have an SOI of between 17-18 MPA, the trucks have always started better and idled cleaner. Mind you I don't build that many injectors but in all the machines I have sold and trained other shops to build CR injectors, they have reported the same results. This also has an effect on opening rate of the pintle, which directly translates to timing, well this and the armature return spring tension. Of course armature lift has a timing effect as height = time.
    Also to argue against what you are saying concerning idle, why do the Duramax balance rates directly reflect what I am conveying, and as the rate increases, it is because the SOI is too low, and idle output is too high? To further reinforce this, many millions of injectors are replaced because of this very issue (balance rates, of which I have re-calibrated many sets and raised the SOI to fix them), and it is always because the idle output is too high, and the fuel is not atomizing properly when it is discharged due to the lower nozzle pintle spring tension.
    Finally, when testing, I always throw out the first test until the injector is warmed up, it actually takes about a full run to purge all the air out. I use a clear return hose for this very visual purpose. I have a friend who just bought one of those Mak Test machines. I had him run a brand new Bosch 6.7 injector on it after the machine was fully warmed up. I wanted him to see that it wasn't as accurate as he was led to believe. He ran it three times and it gave 3 him different calibration offset codes. I didn't ask him what the mm3 spread was, so I don't know what the repeatability was. You can calibrate them to be within +/- 2% of each other on a full set, but the machines repeatability is likely +/- 2% or better.
    Oh year "circle R" = China made, I bought some from them once and they had a double capital "I" on them. Injector is Standard Motor Products...apparently a sub-standard motor product! Bosch parts for the win in my book of experience.

    See the problem is when you buy a set of dynamite injectors for your 6.0L, only to have not one but two start to give you misfires after only 4 months of being in the truck. Well there's warranty right, well yes but your out your truck for two weeks while they test the questionable injectors that have to be sent back to them. I understand wanting to test and inspect your failed parts but why should I be out of a truck while you guys mess around to figure out what failed. I would be happy to pull all 8 out and send them back for a refund at this point. Or buy two off you send mine in and when they fail the test refund me the two injectors.

    Hey so I’ve got a quick question that nobody has been able to answer. My truck will refuse to go over 65 without pushing it super hard because it’ll buck really bad. I had a new lift pump on there and it didn’t fix it I’m gonna put an airdog 4g 150 on there. It also weirdly will bog down when turning sharp left at speed or when accelerating fast while slowly turning left.

      We don't know what kind of truck you have, or any other information about it. We're not going to attempt diagnosis via RUclips comments either, sorry.
