The moment when Stone saw Robin, God graciously took him. God allowed Stone to see Robin one last time. Sonny showed us what real compassion and love was through him giving Stone a home and unconditional love. Most people do not know the extent of Sonny's compassion and goodness. God bless his soul.
GH has seldam shown this side of Sonny in recent years and never to this depth like forever. while Sonny and Jason had a strong friendship it never reached this depth. . the pure greve Sonny and Robin went thru, the tender love and care they both gave Stone, their shared believe in Stone when there were no other takers . Sonny making sure Stone had an honest job parking cares. And neither Robin nor Sonny fully let go of Stone all thease years latter . I know Sonny has had other losses and greafed thru other deaths and tradgities but this was his greatest loss nect was Lily and their unborn baby
In truth you don't need music to make you feel something more powerful the acting does it by itself but you are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine
This reminds me how great GH was in the 90's. Stone's story, Monica's cancer, BJ's death and the return of Luke & Laura and so much more. What a great decade it was.
It's been 20 years now since this amazing story & this heartbreaking end first aired on General Hospital. In all that time, I've yet to see another story-line on General Hospital - or any other Soap Opera for that matter - even come close to being as good, as important and as heartbreaking as this one . Thank you Wendy Riche & specifically Claire Labine for writing such an amazing story. Thank you to Michael Sutton for not only your superb acting throughout this story, but for being OK with your character being killed off in order to tell such an important story. Thank you Kimberly McCullough for your amazing acting throughout this story-line & beyond that in being one of the only HIV + characters on TV. Thank you to the entire cast of General Hospital at the time who were part of this story-you all did an amazing job. And lastly, thank you General Hospital for creating such an important story-line & executing it to perfection. As hard as this story is to watch, I never tire of watching it & so wish General Hospital was even half this good today.
I was about 12 when this aired. It was then, and still is, the most innocent, beautiful and heartbreaking storyline I have EVER seen on TV. Michael Sutton was robbed of an Emmy. This was breathtaking. The only other scene that comes close is when Tony Jones died and saw BJ come for him. Absolutely gut wrenching and beautiful.
Rewatching this two things get me. 1). The look on Luke’s face when Mac tells him that Robin wants to speak to him. He knows right away and Robin didn’t need to say anything. 2). “Oh Robin, I see you!” #breakmyheartinfivewords
1:20 to 1:35....Always wondered if I was the only one to believe this was God restoring his vision one last time to see his greatest love before he passed on.
Of course. Robin and Stone s love for each other was so pure, more mature love then the so called adults displayed, well bt rgwn Robin and Stone were young adults. the last thing before death you see your lov , I will take that when it s my time
I have always thought that Robin and Sonnyor some of the best characters the General Hospital ever wrote. Both Maurice and Kimberly are such talented actors, their ability to be so emotional and vulnerable in a real way in a scene is almost flawless.
Best scene ever. GH has had some pretty amazing scenes over the years, but for me this was the truly most beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
This storyline took a piece of my soul. I had a very good, close friend in middle school who had HIV. We rarely thought of it because we were just kids and he was mostly so vital. When he died it broke the heart of every kid in thst school. It was happening alongside this storyline, too, so it really meant so much to me to see GH showing the world the reality and truth of what HIV/AIDS is. Thank God above we've come such a long way since then. You know, Joey had an incredibly loving, fiercly overprotective older brother, too. He never tried hiding his love for him. Never! It was beautiful, and I truly hope Jo knew how adored he was while on this good earth
I started watching this soap in the summer of 97. My older brother watched it off and on and explained what had happened to Stone. Very sad but GH writer's did a good job on the topic of the AIDS. As well Robin going through HIV.
Omg the " I see you " scene. Claire labine wrote her ass off on gh. So sweet bc he was blind from aids and hes about to die so he sees her . Omg I'm crying mo was fantastic in these scenes . U can see why robin and sonny had a life long bond. Labine also wrote bjs death. She was amazing on gh she left bc they picked up port Charles and not a show she created I think it was about two black families that played jazz . Heart and soul I think. She wrote the cassadines return and jason morgans accident and the intro of caroline benson
I've seen these clips a million times and this just confirms why Robin's my favorite character! KMC was amazing in this SL and deserved that emmy! if only I could find it lol I was only 4 when this aired lol
I know I’m really late but here’s a link to where you can purchase Robin & Stone’s storyline if you are interested! katsoapshop.weebly.com/?fbclid=IwAR2kTtDT34rI-4oJxeW7VGh1IRt1MyL8xC3bS-Jgp0dNGbVmpVm9o2hIYxQ
This was back when Claire Labine was the head writer for GH. She was an incredible writer and I miss her writing so much. Guza is NOWHERE near as good as she was. This was GH at its best and I really miss it.
I remember when I found out the day Stone was going to die, I put in for PTO, because that storyline was so important and I didn't want to miss it. They don't make soaps like this anymore and that's sad!! RIP Stone Cates 😢❤
I wish that Guza and Phelps would have kept the brother/sister chemistry between Robin and Sonny a little stronger and tighter. We barely saw them in scenes together after Robin returned from Yale and now Kimberly left GH.
the only thing that tops this was the death of BJ and friggin awesome Felicia saying to Tony..."No....not Barbara Jean's heart." OMG> GH at it's finest. The 90s were truly the last of the last of awesomeness.
Michael Sutton was sooo excellent. I love Robin with him and could more than accept her with Jason. I cannot stand Patrick yuck. This story was just so touching.
bedbugg22 I agree with every word you said I hate Patrick to he tried to change her and no one that tries to change a person truly loves them I loved stone he loved her for who she was and their entire relationship was so pure I come back here often to watch them again!
I hope Brenda and Robin return and have a great storyline like they use to. This made me cry. Remembered the good old GH days. Also, hope brenda and Sonny find their way back to each other like Stone wanted them too. Ok , I think I reallllly got into it . Lol
I distinctly remember being invested in Robin and Stone’s storyline . I was 11 years old and I watched the ABC stories faithfully all summer . I had an older brother who was gay and he was a big fan of AMC and GH. Watching our soaps together was our thing , I remember us watching this together and I cried 🥹. This was first real introduction into education for HIV/AIDS , besides family life classes at school that showed us pictures of the Grim Reaper and said share needles , unprotected sex , you will die dead ☠️ I remember being scared , thinking I was never going have premarital sex bc this could be the result , I still have a copy of the book , Robin’s Diary that came out , it even had stone’s memory book in it. What a time to be a GH fan

I have been watching GH since Luke first came on the scene in the late 70's. Sorry but Oscar & Joss do not even hit the tip of an iceberg. No Real Feel for me. Anyone who saw Robin & Stone at The Time will confirm that there is Zero Contest. Robin & Stone were back in a day when TV was still wary of touching the AIDS subject. They created all the Epic Storylines such as...Luke & Laura, Sonny & Brenda, Robin & Stone, etc. The writers since then have just tried to recapture history and try to recycle the days of old. They tried to replace or redo Brenda/Sonny/Jax with Carly/Sonny/Jax. They tried to replace or redo Robin & Stone with Joss and Oscar, ETC. However, nothing compares to The Originals. Back in those days, you did not simply watch it....You Felt IT. ~

I loved Sonny's reaction. Very realistic--so sad, and yet so relieved that Stone wasn't suffering anymore.
The character of Robyn is very unique and tragic. She’s a GH gem. These were great general hospital days, storytelling at its best.

For all his characters' flaws, Sonny was always at his best with Stone.
Everyone has flaws
This was one of the greatest moments in GH history.
And one of the saddest....

Still hard to believe that Kimberly was only 17 during this entire storyline.
