- HOMEWORK BAN
Poland has just banned homework for students in years 1 to 3, and for students in years 4 to 8, homework is now optional. Polish Education Minister, Barbara Nowacka, said the decision was based on research about children's mental health. The idea is that less homework means more free time to do extra-curricular activities, meet up with friends, and just have fun, because believe it or not, having fun is actually pretty important for a healthy brains. But before you go throwing about your homework, there are plenty of teachers and parents who think it can be really helpful.
REEF BLEACH
Some new video footage has shown that coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef could be worse than we thought. This video, released by the The Australian Marine Conservation Society, shows coral that's been bleached up to 18 metres under the water. That's bad because it shows even coral in cooler deeper water is being affected. Bleaching happens when water heats up, and If it doesn't cool down, it can die.
JUICED TV
Meet Keanu. He's one of the presenters of Juiced TV, a show made for kids in hospital by kids in hospital. It was created for kids like Keanu who have to spend a lot of time here at Queensland Children's Hospital to make the experience more fun and less scary. Anyone can get involved, whether it's in their brand new studio or getting a beside visit from a TV crew. And it's seen some pretty famous guest stars drop in, too. Hospital workers say it's done wonders for keeping kid's spirits up and creating community. And those behind the camera have their sights set high for the show's future.
ROBOT MOON DOG
This robot dog is learning how to walk on the moon! The scientists who are training it say by asking the robot to walk through rough and rocky surfaces, they can collect a lot of useful data that could help it to walk on the moon, or even Mars.
BIRD SIREN
Now to the UK, where one clever bird living in a tree outside a police station has started making some familiar sounds. Yep, that's it mimicking a police car!
EMU UNI
Now, if you thought that was a clever bird, these birds are going to uni! For the first time ever, three emus have moved in to La Trobe Uni's Bundoora campus, just north of Melbourne. They'll get to roam the 90 acre reserve, eating berries, keeping down the weeds and maybe even bumping into a student or two.
