    • @sword_of_light
      @sword_of_light 29 дней назад +3

      She's lightly armed for such a large ship - at least large in terms of the US Coast Guard. The Famous-class still sports the rapid-fire 76mm, as does the Hamilton-class, which I think the Heritage-class is meant to replace. I know the USCG downgraded a lot of its weapons systems after the end of the Cold War, but it's interesting how much more lightly armed they all seem to be getting despite how involved they are in the South Pacific.

    • @zeroinfinity9189
      @zeroinfinity9189 26 дней назад +3

      @@sword_of_light Yeah but I wouldn't be to worried about it thought. The U.S. Coast Guard don't rarely ever participate in any global war besides search and rescue mission. The closest danger would probably be engaging in piracy or drug smuggling. Also arming them would be costly since they also have to account for personals who needs to be trained to operate and maintaining the weapons. As for the large size, this would be good for the Coast Guard to traverse across the Ocean for instance going to Hawaii or Alaska if need be.

    • @sword_of_light
      @sword_of_light 26 дней назад +2

      @@zeroinfinity9189 - No. The US Coast Guard has been fighting global conflicts since the French Quasi-War of 1798. They were escorting convoys in WWII, as well as piloting landing craft. A Coast Guardsman named Douglas A. Munro was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for leading the rescue of three Marine companies during the Battle of Guadalcanal. In the Vietnam war, the US Coast Guard were the first US vessels to patrol the Mekong Delta, as the US Navy at the time had no shallow-draft vessels that could navigate the river.
      Currently, the Coast Guard has numerous vessels deployed in the South Pacific at the request of allied nations like the Philippines, to counter-act aggression by Chinese militia vessels pretending to be fishermen. If conflict with China occurs, the US Coast Guard will likely be the ones first on the scene.

      They decommissioned the first group of Littoral combat ships because they were defective. Issues with the power plant with one class and hull on the other, being two of the larger issues. From what I’ve heard they fixed the issues and that’s why they’re moving forward. However, if I’m wrong it wouldn’t surprise me that they still move forward…. The original idea behind them is sound, but for all practical purposes, the early ships of both classes ended up as test beds as they figured out what does work and what doesn’t work. That said, both classes ended up as victims of feature bloat, as the Navy tried to make them into mini Arleigh Burkes, with the capacity a little bit of everything.

      Well they have yet to approve the frigate design that Congress demanded be purchased off the shelf for the purpose of speed of construction. They essentially are redesigning it from scratch, ignoring their Congressional mandate. And even then, when I was working I could have produced the 3D drawings myself, alone, in less than 6 years. The hold up is in the drawing approvals.
      They are still decommissioning more ships than they are producing and they are going to go down to like 1.2 Virginia's a year now. China is rapidly outpacing us and I don't ever see Australia getting their subs at this rate. Congress has poured countless billions down a hole trying to get them competitive with the Chinese construction rates, but nothing improves. The whole system needs an overhaul.

    All wonderful additions for the Navy.
    1 class of ship I would begin building ASAP are big boy ice breakers.
    Things have been looking sketchy in the Antarctic for quite some time now.
    By building these Ice breakers now, we could have parity with the Russians are they cannot build more of these ships due to the war in Ukraine.
    Time to outsource some of the Naval needs to allies to keep up with new ships builds as well as being in front of the curve with decommissioning of old unreliable inventory.
    There are plenty of countries who would love to build new ships for us at a better cost.

      Considering their limited armament & range the LCS are indeed a dubious addition to a blue water navy. Don’t really see the Chinese being intimidated by a fleet of these off their shores. If they’re intended for inshore role supporting the marines or the navy seals then why don’t they have at least a 5” gun for shore bombardment. I also note at 3400 tons or so why are they being given names of US cities that in the past were usually reserved for ships in the cruiser class. The SSNs are now being given names of states traditionally reserved for battleships but their role & firepower probably makes them deserving however IMHO. Now returning to the LCS vessels going into reserve in some cases immediately after commissioning, why not give those to the Coast Guard? At 44 knots speed and at least by the standards of coast guard cutters heavy armament they’d be ideal for anti smuggling ops and search & rescue ?😊

    America should be building subs, AI sub hunters, aircraft carriers, and AI ships that guard aircraft carriers at sea, and from under the sea automatically
    The problem is that we have old people, often with no experience at war or on these ships, making the decisions. This needs to stop soon. The best tacticians are often gamers. Use their knowledge and give them recognition. Young people should be deep within the decision making chain, though maybe not making the final ok; as they operate from wanting to win, where old people often just want to defend well. We need to look at the people throughout America for the answers that drive America forward. Identify the bad eggs and scramble them, before they become a problem. Go AI, go hive mind, go drones with only people guiding the overall, and let computers build jets that can do 50x gravity, because computers don’t care. Stop building to the limitations of men (and women), but rather computer programs and AI. peace through strength

Being black mailed by the companies that make them and the systems that are needed , with parts that are 5 times the cost and repairs that require special technicians because of patent rights.
