I'm in my 3rd year of learning to play swing jazz. Man, I wish this lesson was available back when I first started, it would have been a massive help. For beginners, this is the best comping lesson/explanation on you tube!
Thanks - I felt the same when my teacher Ken Edie wrote out the different triplet patterns on 2 lines of paper. I was like ‘oh, it can be that simple?’ Of course the combinations of patterns can get complex but remembering the basic building blocks is easy.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. I'm an old retired Rock drummer (63), and I have been trying to learn just a few basic Jazz things to have fun with. Perfect breaking it down playing along to the Jazz ride. Just what I needed. Have a great day.
I'm a rock drummer in a coverband in The Netherlands. Now I'm joining a band start playing blues/jazz, swing jazz, that sort of thing. I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel. This is a great help for me, thanks Sacha!
C. Doom Schneider I agree it’s a lot to jump into right away, but it’s good to be exposed to all kinds of stuff early. My first teacher loaned me a Peter Erskine VHS and even though I didn’t know much about jazz, just watching him play the cymbals so cleanly was a new thing and I still visualise it today.
Sacha mate! I knew as soon as I heard the Aussie accent that these vids are going to be dinky di. You don't waffle on with a 20 second intro of some extremely mediocre hard rock music, followed with a "Hi guys, I'm Sach from xxxxx in xxxx, like to say a huige thanks to my sponsors" Blaaah blah blah... Straight to the point! Love it mate! Cheers from Melbourne
im gettig back into drums after 10 years, last i played i was like16. I remember finding jazz beat the hardest to get, but absolutely the most satisfying!
Thanks a lot pal absolutely clear lesson, i really want to learn jazz drum after many years playing pop rock, seems like i found the right channel !! You made my day and hopefully more to come, cheers from France !
Brilliant! This is the video I’ve been searching for as a beginner to jazz drumming. You’ve made it seem so simple and straight forward. Really appreciate it from a local up the hill in Toowoomba where our local jazz society is still going strong for a small(ish) town which is good to see. Viva la Jazz!
Hey bro nice info by you indeed! I like to know whenever we play 4/4, 5/8 so on so do need to add on triplet into it for swing feel ?????? What's the concept of swing groove ????? Kindly do let me know
This is the right idea and helpful but it would be better if you did like 10 repeats of each before moving on to the next. For a beginner it's super hard to switch them after only two times.

Muy buena lección. La mayoría de lecciones de jazz de youtube te enseñan el mismo patrón de mierda pero el tuyo deja cosas muy prácticas.
Truly an inspiration
Always good to get new material....... Thank You for putting this out there for us...
PS... Love It....

Should I do this on the bass drum too?
If you want to then yeah but I think feathering the bass drum on 1 and 3 is enough
Top 👍🏼
