In 2017 CC was 14-5 with an era under 4 and guided the Yankees by pitching great in Alds game 5 and guiding them to the Alcs so he doesn't deserve to be on this list
that was 1 season out of all the other seasons, u can't say he shouldn't be on the list if he had one good year after that contract and he rest where terrible
Jo3y Summa as a Yankees fan he abandoned our team for the 12 wild card game against the Orioles because he had to go to AA he does have to be on this list
I’m shocked that Barry Zito’s contract is even included here. Let me tell you something. Zito didn’t just contribute to the San Francisco Giants winning the World Series in 2012. He won 17 games that year. He was a Dodger killer in his games against the high-budgeted Dodgers in the second half of that season who were in contention for the playoffs. He saved the Giants during the 2012 playoffs with his Game 5 masterpiece (the best game he ever pitched arguably) against the highly favored Cards. In St. Louis. With the Giants down 3 to 1 in the series. An elimination game at that. A game that he won that resulted in the series heading back to San Francisco and enabled the Giants to come back while at home to win the series. Then Zito followed it up by beating Justin Verlander (a Verlander in his prime) in Game 1 of the World Series. Yes, Zito pitched Game 1 of the 2012 World Series over MadBum, Cain, Vogelsong, and Lincecum! The Giants Fans were chanting “Barry, Barry” for him when that chant had only been reserved for Bonds. Does all of that sound like #1 worst MLB contract OF ALL TIME? If you’re going to put together rankings like this, you have to also put things into context. Organizations would kill just to have a bad contract if it meant “that” player leading to a World Series Championship. Zito has nothing to be ashamed of. Did he perform up to that contract statistically. Of course not. Did he only have one good year in his multi-year contract. Yup, only one. Even Barry would probably say he wished he pitched better. But as far as I’m concerned, that contract for Barry Zito was worth the price of the 2012 World Series Championship. He can hold his head up high in San Francisco and should never be in any of these “Worst Contract” rankings. He will forever be a Giant. Period.
The only contract that could possibly be worst than Bonilla's is contract with the devil himself. How the hell can any contract be worse than a contract with a player that will not have played for your team for nearly 40years when it expires? You're paying a guy nearly 2mil a year for over 3 decades that doesn't even pay for your team.
Lol Zito’s contract was worth every dollar. He saved the Giants’ season in game 5 of the 2012 NLCS when they were down 3-1 in the series. And he threw a damn masterpiece to beat Verlander in game 1 of the World Series in 2012. (Ok. Technically Pablo Sandoval’s two home runs off Verlander are what really beat him, but he still pitched fucking incredible)
Chris Davis for the Orioles should be on here. 7 years 165 million and this year he batted .216 with 26 home runs and 56 rbis. Terrible contract. Also Albert Bell signed a 10 year contract back in the 90s with O's but only played one year for the team.
Cc contract ain't that bad help us win a World Series and the last couple of years he's been really good . If you really wanted too include a Yankee should have pick aj Burnett jacoby ellsbury carl pavano etc and why no pujos on this list ? Horrible list missed a lot of players
Are you kidding em DeChubbie? Sans this has been the most consistent starter this year for the Yanks. The record doesn’t matter and CC had a ERA under 3.60 this year.
No Gary Matthews Jr? The Angels gave him a monster deal- 5 yr/ $50 Mil, based on.... apparently that freakin' awesome home run rob of Mike Lamb in 2006, because he wasn't particularly noteworthy before. After he had the HGH controversy and just kinda faded into obscurity.
Jayson Werth #1 all time! Age 32, 7 year contract-$126 million dollars...As a National, he never hit more than 25 hrs in a season, never reached 90 rbis/90 runs scored in a season...3 seasons where he never even played 90 games..idk what the Nats were thinking.
Wrong, the Angles had to pay Josh Hamiltons contract. And the reason the rails are in front of dugouts in Anaheim is because of Mo Vaugns first season, went over to catch a foul ball, fell on the first stepped, and never played the same again.
Pillsbury Doughboy idk roids help you see the ball more clearly bonds use it to add more strength not ti hit balls that nigga had an eye watch his old shit buddy
At the same time that the Rockies signed Mike Hampton, they also signed Denny Neagle, also to a huge contract. Like Hampton, Neagle was unable to pitch effectively at altitude. The last year of his contract was canceled due to legal and moral problems Neagle had. Those two contracts heavily damaged the Rockies for several years.
I really wouldn't put C.C on this list. Sure he posted 3 seasons with high ERAs, but he followed that up with back to back years with sub 4 ERA, plus a 14 win season in 2017. And he's put up some good numbers now on 2018
5:35 "(Zito) only had one winning season in the bay area." Oakland's also in the bay area. I know what you mean, but had to point out the technical flaw.
During most of Zito's contract most people in the Bay Area would agree it was the worst... After he beat the Cardinal's in the NLCS and then beat Verlander in game 1 of the World Series all was forgiven.
Bormannator maybe because $1.2 million is hardly anything for a team unless you’re a cheapskate team like the Rays or Athletics. Do you consider that contract to be franchise crushing like Albert Pujols or Chris Davis?
How is Albert Pujols not on this list? He has hasn't lived up to his contract at all. He was like one of worst offensive players in baseball 2017. I know he got a lot of RBI's but I heard he should have had a lot more.
Chris Davis and Marc Trumbo. Now the Orioles can’t even bid for Machado. And I think I’d go back to Glenn Davis. Three years 10 million in 1991. Played a total of 185 games in three years. I like to consider him MLBs first 10 Million Dollar Man because in three years he played just over one season and got $10M for it.
Jacoby Ellsbury for the Yanks, Johan Santana's 7-year deal with the Mets, Jason Bay with the Mets, Kei Igawa with the Yankees, and Darren Dreifort of the Dodgers.
How did Ubaldo Jimenez's contract no make the list?!! Nearly 52 million dollars wasted on a supposedly "good" starting pitcher, and turns into one of the shittiest signings my Orioles have ever made!
Jesse rams 84 I guess you're not wrong there but we're paying him well over 20 million a year to hit .241 and not even play in the field? That's a bit ridiculous, no?
As a Cubs fan, I can tell you that on the next one of these lists is going to be Jason Heyward. The Cubs paid him $100 some million dollars and so far we've gotten a guy that hits .250, hits about 10 HR's, and drives in less than 50 runs a season. Oh yeah, well worth a $100 million freaking dollars!😕😕😕😕
Jacoby Ellsbury, A Rod, Jason Giambi, Mark Teixiera, we're some of the many worst signings from the Yankees. The signings of Tom Glavine and Pedro Martinez to the Mets were also horrible.
I’m a diehard Yankees fan and I think Jacoby Ellsbury’s contract is one of the worst contracts if not the worst contract the Yankees made. Jacoby Ellsbury was a nice player when he was with the Boston Red Sox. He led baseball in stolen bases in 2 of his 7 seasons in Boston. He won 2 World Series titles in 2007 & 2013, & finished second in the American League MVP voting in 2011, which he hit 32 home runs and 100 plus RBIs, & made the All-Star team in 2011. But most of career has been derailed by injuries. In 2010, he played in only 18 games. In 2012, he played in only 74 games. The Yankees signed Ellsbury to a 7 year $153 million dollar contract at 30 years old. His first year was not bad, but not living up to expectations. But it has gotten worse & worse. Ellsbury has been on the DL every year after 2014 & his production has gone south. It’s a hilariously bad deal for the Yankees. Not hating on Ellsbury, I like him. I think he’s a good player when healthy. I did like the idea of bringing him onboard, but only on a 3-4 year contract, not a 7 year contract. The Yankees overpaid for Jacoby Ellsbury when they should have invested around $200 million dollars to bring Robinson Cano back at that time. Now fast forward to 2018, letting Robinson Cano leave was the right decision, since he got busted for PEDs. Double edged sword when you look at it. The Yankees overpay for Ellsbury, Robinson Cano signs with the Mariners for 10 years $240 million dollars. Fast forward to 2018, Cano is suspended for PEDs & is on the DL with a broken wrist & the Yankees have their future second baseman in Gleyber Torres.
Bro, Ryan Howard tore his Achilles on the last day of the 2011 season. Just before that contract kicked in, but it was already agreed upon. Don’t get me wrong, Howard’s numbers would have declined over the span of that contract had he not torn his Achilles, but dude, did you see that guy try to run after his injury? It hurt me to watch!
People say the Red Sox paid to much to sign Daisuke Matsuzaka but the Red Sox made the money back plus some because his jerseys sold like crazy in Japan.
You didn't mention Ryan Howard's blown achillies -- that's what made the contract a problem. He lost power and mobility after missing almost an entire season.
Ryan's contract size included past due services. His MLB prime was cut short by the signing of Thome and their unwillingness to trade him. His first three seasons were literally incomparable at that point.
Yo the CC contract was money well spent for the Yankees. He almost won the cy young award in ‘09 when he help them win a World Series. Last season he was nice too. He went 9-0 after the all star break. You should sub him out with albert pujols.
Whats wrong with the Mets? How do you sign a player only to release him midway of the season and agree to pay him from 2011-2035? That's just dumb in so many ways, and he's still getting payed today.
I am a Yankee's fan and I that one of the Yankee's worst contracts was when they picked A-rod from Texas and payed him 225 million. I get it that he hit 696 home runs but he talked trash and betrayed his best friend and in the first 3 years of his contract he was doing terrible and then he had to get hip surgery. A-rod is like Cano, Puig and Machado, they act like they don't know how to play and they act like jerks.
The Bonilla deferral isn't even the worst deferred contract. Do your research TPS. Manny Ramirez (Red Sox), Ken Griffey Jr (Reds), Ryan Zimmerman will receive $10M a year for the first 5 years of his retirement from the nationals.
You're seriously saying Sabbathia for the Yanks is worse than Sandoval for the Sox? At the very least, Sabbathia is a reliable mid rotation guy these days. Not worth the money they payed for, but at least he has value to the team. Sandoval literally was a big contract of injuries, negative WAR, and being payed to play on another team. No comparison.
Matthew Wiley i gotta disagree. a running back that always got injured in either the pre season or the first game of the regular season..... he was regarded as the next "Barry Sanders", to bad he couldnt even play half of a regular season....... oh troy tulowitzski would probably get number 2 on my list
As much as I love Albert Puljols, his current contract with the Angels is terrible. The worst part is that it's back loaded so, he'll make more money at age 42 than at age 36, yipes!
I don’t see AJ Burnett, Carl Pavano, Jacoby Ellsbury with the Yankees, Chris Davis with Orioles, C.J. Wilson with the Angels, Jarrod Saltalamachia with the Marlins, Fernando Rodney with the Mariners, Yasmany Tomas with the Dbacks, Rousney Castillo of the Red Sox, Hector Olivera, I’ll ready give you another top ten on this comment. C.C Sabathia got 2 bad years on his long contract becouse he was making changes on his pitches to adapt to his lost of velocity.
If another list like this is made Chris Davis has GOT to be #1. That's the worst contract in world history, especially considering it's coming from a small market team.
What about Chris Davis with the Baltimore Orioles. He has a lot of strike outs and the orioles paid him way too much for what he is today.
Where the hell is Chris Davis' contract with Baltimore?! He's terrible!!
lol yeah it's pretty bad. And they still have to endure through 3 more years of negative WAR.
he is doing terrible this year.
995wolf I was about to say that
In 2017 CC was 14-5 with an era under 4 and guided the Yankees by pitching great in Alds game 5 and guiding them to the Alcs so he doesn't deserve to be on this list
JO3Y Summa yea but 2013-2016 he posted losing records and sucked.
JO3Y Summa contract like that should go to a Cy Young caliber pitcher like Max Scherzer or Chris Sale (who is being paid less than Sabathia).
that was 1 season out of all the other seasons, u can't say he shouldn't be on the list if he had one good year after that contract and he rest where terrible
Jo3y Summa as a Yankees fan he abandoned our team for the 12 wild card game against the Orioles because he had to go to AA he does have to be on this list
Mark Sanchez 2016 he was good over 170 innings dick head
BOBBY BONILLA NOT NUMBER 1!?!!!?!
I
Liam he’s the one that the Mets are still paying right.
Yes
He was still getting paid 10 years after his last at-bat, right?
Liam I know right.
I’m shocked that Barry Zito’s contract is even included here. Let me tell you something. Zito didn’t just contribute to the San Francisco Giants winning the World Series in 2012. top 10 forgotten regular season dynasties because they lost in the playoffs
Anthony Kernich possibly Indians or Dodgers 2017
2001 Mariners is easily in the top 3
Anthony Kernich 2015 Clippers
Anthony Kernich yeah I was devastated when my Mariners were 116-46 and lost in the playoffs
Playoffs? Playoffssss?
Sabathia was not a bad contract Mabey 13-15 but 2017
Sabathia is Retiring

Preach!!! earned every penny for those 2 starts
So? The giants won in spite of zito, not because of him.
Chris Davis is only 2 years in his current contract and it already isn't worth it.
Oh ya I forgot about him!
@Warren Shiflett I saw him on t.v. giving this "I'm going to hit better" nonsense. The only way this guy will help Baltimore is to take a pay cut.
Zito's turned out to be bad, but not number 1. Giants don't win the 2012 WS without him. For that alone his contact isn't number one.
Chris Davis for the Orioles should be on here. 7 years 165 million and this year he batted .216 with 26 home runs and 56 rbis. Terrible contract. Also Albert Bell signed a 10 year contract back in the 90s with O's but only played one year for the team.

Are you kidding em DeChubbie? Sans this has been the most consistent starter this year for the Yanks. The record doesn’t matter and CC had a ERA under 3.60 this year.
No.
CC's been solid the past two years, but have those seasons really been worth $20 million+?
between the negotiating rights and the actual contract the 46 million the yanks gave Kei Igawa who only got 2 wins would be considered a bust.
Chris Davis needs to be on this list
Zito did come in clutch in 2012 tho more than what most of these guys can say
No Gary Matthews Jr? The Angels gave him a monster deal- 5 yr/ $50 Mil, based on.... apparently that freakin' awesome home run rob of Mike Lamb in 2006, because he wasn't particularly noteworthy before. After he had the HGH controversy and just kinda faded into obscurity.

5:15 he pitched like an ace in game 5 of the 2012 NLCS. Which was probably the biggest W of their iconic run that year.
A-Rod? He about got the Rangers bankrupt.
The Rangers almost bankrupted themselves by offering that contract to the young Mariner. I believe George Bush owned the team when this happened.
Baseball Headquarters yeah but the years he was there he played great they second best in MLB Behind bonds
At least a rod was good. With or without roids
Pillsbury Doughboy idk roids help you see the ball more clearly bonds use it to add more strength not ti hit balls that nigga had an eye watch his old shit buddy
Arod got more money than he deserved from the rangers and Yankees but his performance never slumped until the last 2 years of his career
Chris Davis? Prince Fielder? Albert Pojuls? CJ Wilson? Chone Figgins? You missed a lot

Jeronimo Gonzalez what sport?
🇺🇸American-Latino🇺🇸 considering he said 32 teams it's clearly football. The rest have 30
Justin Dickey 2 have 30* NHL has 31 teams.
NoahJoeys FoodWorldReviewsTour it's still not 32 so my point is still valid it's clearly football

Ernie Banks.

Chris Davis's contract was worse.
Jacoby Elsbury, Albert Pujols, David Wright, Jason Bay, Jordan Zimmerman... I’m sure I’m missing a few others. But those all deserve consideration
If Albert Pujols isn’t #1 I’m gonna be triggered(Angels fan)
Wtf Albert Pujols isn’t even on this list!?!? Fuck you!!
Nice
OperationIZ he's driving in 100 rbis and hitting 20-30 homers and 1 year with 40 he's a 4 hitter and he's doing his job hitting in all those runs
Jesse rams 84 I guess you're not wrong there but we're paying him well over 20 million a year to hit .241 and not even play in the field? That's a bit ridiculous, no?
Lord Shaxx yeah your right 200 million is a lots for his performance but he's not as bad as people say

10 teams that suck at signing free agents
Didn’t Barry zito pitch a good game in the 2012 ws ?
Nice video but I have a suggestion for a video maybe you should do 10 teams that should of clinched the 2017 playoffs
We dont have a trophy without Zito in 2012
When Mike Hampton is your number 4, you know the top 3 are stinkers haha. Great vid!
Ryan's contract size included past due services. His MLB prime was cut short by the signing of Thome and their unwillingness to trade him. His first three seasons were literally incomparable at that point.
As a sox fan I feel ashamed of the bad deals we’ve given out.
Wayne Garland, 1977, Indians, 10 years, $2.3 million (a LOT at that time.) Lasted only 5 years, went 24-48 with 4.50 ERA.
Jose Offerman, he was the major reason the Red Sox did not win a World Series between 2000 - 2002,
Yo the CC contract was money well spent for the Yankees. He almost won the cy young award in ‘09 when he help them win a World Series. Last season he was nice too. He went 9-0 after the all star break. You should sub him out with albert pujols.
Zito was lights out in both post seasons tho
top ten athlets who retired to early

2. Barry Sanders
3. Calvin Johnson
Whats wrong with the Mets? How do you sign a player only to release him midway of the season and agree to pay him from 2011-2035? That's just dumb in so many ways, and he's still getting payed today.
No but I will ask you this. Are you related to Kobe Bryant or Kris Bryant?
Every spot could be filled with Red Sox. No adrian Gonzalez?
I am a Yankee's fan and I that one of the Yankee's worst contracts was when they picked A-rod from Texas and payed him 225 million. I get it that he hit 696 home runs but he talked trash and betrayed his best friend and in the first 3 years of his contract he was doing terrible and then he had to get hip surgery. A-rod is like Cano, Puig and Machado, they act like they don't know how to play and they act like jerks.
10 players who could’ve been great but an injury held em back
CC doesn't deserve to be on this
The Bonilla deferral isn't even the worst deferred contract. Do your research TPS. Manny Ramirez (Red Sox), Ken Griffey Jr (Reds), Ryan Zimmerman will receive $10M a year for the first 5 years of his retirement from the nationals.

Didn't read the rest of the comments but how is Alfonso Soriano's contract not here? Cubs fans hating him for the last 2.5 years of his time there.
The contracts given to Arod, Stanton and Miguel Cabrera were also some of the worst contracts ever.
You fail to mention that Ryan Howard was plagued with injuries from 2010 on.
Daquan Young was no doubt the best TPS host and that background music is the best too and epic
Albert pujols. 10 years, 245 million, no playoff victories. Swept by kc in 2014. Just recently released by the angels. Nothing left in the tank.
I think we need to redo this list because where is Chris Davis?

DeadlyNinja tim biakabatuka better be number 1 on that list
Matthew Wiley i gotta disagree. a running back that always got injured in either the pre season or the first game of the regular season..... he was regarded as the next "Barry Sanders", to bad he couldnt even play half of a regular season....... oh troy tulowitzski would probably get number 2 on my list
Matthew Wiley-What about Gronkowski? Or Dustin Pedroia?
C.C Sabathia got 2 bad years on his long contract becouse he was making changes on his pitches to adapt to his lost of velocity.
top 10 ridiculously huge contract in sport that eventually paid off
Yeah Barry Zito’s contract was shit but seriously he made up for it in 2012. He saved the giants and helped them win the World Series
If another list like this is made Chris Davis has GOT to be #1. That's the worst contract in world history, especially considering it's coming from a small market team.
Zito helped win a couple chips with his post season performances so to me he was worth it as a Giants fan.
Remember when Albert Belle hit all those homers for the Orioles? No? Exactly.
CC Sabathia got them to a world series my dude... in my books thats a good contract
Top ten blown mlb division leads/wildcard leads or blown playoff series/games
Top 10 contenders for the 2017-18 NCAA men’s basketball season
How the hell is Sabathia on this list? Please!
Bobby Bonilla still collecting mlb checks? BALLER
I can honestly say that no yankee fan is mad about cc’s contract and he probably shouldn’t be on the list after his performance last year
Top ten most underrated teams in sports history
10 most underrated Players in Sports right now
Before I watch this, Bobby Bonilla better be number 1
Dice K was a bad contract, but he wasn't a top ten worst contract in MLB history. That's ridiculous.
