    I think it is unfair to Marche to judge him as an adult and then to just forgive every other kid for being a kid. Besides, the main isuue is escapism. While sure, these kids are seemingly happier in this whimsical world, they are avoiding all of their growth, realities and issues back in the real world. You cant grow up if you dont face your problems. Mewt is an obvious show of that: the sweet timid boy has became a naggy, bratty prince that cries momma everytime something doesnt work his way as he mistreats his father and Babus. Donned can walk, but antagonizes his caring brother and Ritz even stops helping out people in need and standing up to bullies. They have all changed for the worst, despite this world seemingly giving them what they want.

      you took away their drug, their neverending story; you see how that messes people up in the real world, especially if you dismantle their politics and they rage out.
      Fun to compare with Juforade though he stopped doing vids on games. Marche is the bad guy. ruclips.net/video/Wpo61gZsexk/видео.html
      7:10 KBash proved it lol
      7:59 Damage to animals is a bullshit law that made me want to throw my game out the window, gotta save scum, antilaw (I forget when you can do that) or rely on counterattacks only.
      12:41 lol ya I think that's why Marche wants to take Mewt back to reality. That's an intervention when under 18, let alone interspecies.
      19:00 that bit with Mewt/Llednar does explain Marche's conviction a lot. They'll never develop, let alone Mewt would be even more childish/abusive because of his pain instead of gradually overcoming it. Marche is their right of passage into adulthood, an unpleasant truth.

    I saw Marche's conversation with Doned as him basically saying that while he might have legs, he doesn't have adequate parental support, while Doned does, and that stings too. Since everyone's different, I'm not gonna say that legs are objectively better than parents or vice versa, but like he said, his life wasn't perfect just cause legs.

      We see it two different ways, yeah. I can't imagine myself ever using (vague and unexplained) lack of parental affection to a sibling to guilt-trip that sibling into seeing our struggles as equal. It boggles the mind, though it's in character for some of the kids I've worked with irl.
      But I do really hate the notion that Marche is a mature individual (not that you said it - the game implies it) when that's the kinda thing an obstinate child would say to his or her brother in that situation.

      KBash You can’t imagine yourself, as a SMALL CHILD, venting about how frustrating it can be to NOT be a burden on your family because it means that you’re basically ignored? I sympathize with Doned’s position completely, but your lack of empathy AT ALL with how Marche might feel sullies your otherwise great analysis.

      @@OroborOSX11 I dont think so the line "Im sure you will be able to walk when we get back" kinda reveals how little marche really thought about his gripes importance in comparison. even if its a kids if you give no honest try to change its alot less sympathetic than a trouble thats innate. It reaks of "what about you just talk to your parent more instead of lumping doned with all that blame"
      The audience feels simular about how Tommy handles having Dill in the Rugrats Movie; cept that atleast has an obvious gate to fixing it easily. tommy cant speak to adults. and him being a baby would be melodramatic- even if the movie oversells it and makes it way too dark.

      @@KBash The goal wasn't to guilt trip his brother but to simply explain that the world doesn't entirely revolve around his needs. Yes it sucks he can't walk but to dismiss the sacrifices his mom and brother make in order to excuse his selfishness means he doesn't understand the consequences of his own autonomy. This is probably in part due to the the way he was fawned over his entire life and thus to be expected.
      Marche is the only char acting with any sense of maturity as he is the only one willing to deal with reality. I don't understand how anyone could think this is a controversial or contested statement. Disabilities or a bad lot in life does not mean you are inherently owed some sort of justice on the cosmic scale.

  • @Taperosc
    @Taperosc 5 лет назад +136

    Every main character other than Marche in the new world, despite having everything changed to benefit them, turned into a worse version of themselves.
    Mewt became a snobby brat who runs to his mother to solve everything for him and refusing to face things himself. Rits abandons her friends because she can be free of a little "hair shaming". Doned starts antagonising and stealing from his own brother because he's not getting what he wants. They all turned to escapism instead of facing their problems and became worse for it.
    Marche is the only one mature enough to see that this is not healthy, and while his own personal reasons for wanting to go back are very flimsy he is objectively correct in saying that staying in a fantasy land where everything is good for them is childish, selfish and ultimately more harmful for their character than the problems they'll face. After all how many people might have had THEIR lives change for the worse while 3 children just happened to have the best outcome?
    Also if you think people with disabilities can't have good lives, or find ways to overcome their limitations to live happily, then you're not only wrong but more childish than Mewt. I work in a home for the mentally and physically disabled and it is inspiring to see how well they can learn, live and be happy. Doned may have trouble but that doesn't mean his situation is hopeless.
    I know the morals behind this story are rather grey and there really is no "right" answer but the main message is absolutely correct. Escapism is dangerous and can lead to people going down very dark paths, and while they might suffer for facing their problems they will grow strong, overcome them and eventually have better lives. Maybe they can even spread that strength and happiness to others as well.
    I love your videos Kbash but i don't think you really understood and learned from the themes the game put forth. Although i admit the occasion poor story telling doesn't really help at all.

    For my point of view the main theme is "escapism". All the character live their life without facing their problem but simply erasing them. This I fell are way more important nowadays with the net, March say that this world is an illusion but for the others that is not true. Many people in the real world decide to "live" in MMO or closing in their rooms cutting any connection with the outside world. For them someone that tries to "free " them is seen as a nuisance that put in danger their "perfect life".
    Regarding the dialogue about parents that don't care vs. having a disability I can't say truly anything because I have no brother or sister but there are cases where between 2 or more children one will fell less loved and less important than the other because of disability or maybe cause the other have some kind of "prodigious " skill.
    Add that for them there is only a parents and their economical situation isn't great, in March may appears the idea that he , what he thinks and what he fells isn't important, that he isn't important for his mother.
    Maybe I'm reading too much into this but March arriving in this fantasy world achieved something that maybe didn't fell in the real world, importance.

      Kbash pointed a key element to understand what happen but ignore it : in japanese the father is alcoholic. Escaping the reality in a dreamland is no different to drinking or taking drugs. Marche is just the most mature/reality grounded character. Real life can be harsh, no one really equal, but running away don't improve it!
      The only problem of the game is that they chosen Marche as the main character, an odd choice since if you play games getting stuck in a fantasy world with magic feel really cool. He would make a better antagonist.

    I find it hilarious that this review completely demonises Marche for his actions, yet gives every other brat a pass for either being selfish or assholes. Marche's reasons for his actions revolve entirely around the idea of escapism. Every major character wants to stay in this world because their lives are better off, but at the same time, that's just them. Almost every other unnamed character has had their lives potentially ruined, having had their lives and entire identities taken from them and some even getting as fucked as being turned into literal zombies. Marche is the only one to see these problems and wants to turn things back, not because hes entitled or privileged, but because he had his whole life taken from him and his friends haven become entitled babies who have no regard for anyone other than themselves.
    This game is basically Matrix for babies. People placed in a world better than their own forcibly, and the main character going out of their way to get back to the real world. If you think Marche is a piece of shit, but think Neo is a hero, you're a hypocrite.

    As someone with an incurable issue myself, I take issue with the criticism of Marche as "privileged" in this review. I don't think you know how hard it is to be a sibling to someone with a chronic, severe condition. My siblings are so incredible that it hurts, especially when i think back to how objectively neglectful my mother was at some points of our childhood in order to baby me out of fear that I would just disappear if she wasn't looking.
    Marche isn't entitled, or privileged once the world changes. Every one of his new friends is a worse person for forcing their worries away instead of confronting them. They're all acting like children because they are children. How is Marche any worse for fighting because he want his REAL family, and his REAL life back?

Marche is the only one who makes sense, everything is a dream, it's not real and can only be indulged by those shallow enough to accept it and stunts who they are. The message of this game is even more relevant in Current Year when people are now encouraged to deny reality. Mewt, Ritz, Doned, and Cid all become terrible people thanks to getting to live in their ideal fantasy, fully submerged in their own selfishness. People need to face their struggles, that is what makes you stronger. The epilogue shows each of these characters stronger than they were before because they decided to overcome their problems instead of running away. You can easily substitute the fantasy world with any addiction and the message becomes more clear.

    Ah, this indeed was my childhood. Played and completed it many many times. Did challenge runs by restricting myself to a few jobs and using shitty equips. Tons of fun. Overall I agreed with the message "that we cannot and should not run from our problems" from the safety of my home, but indeed the characters themselves within the game seemed to lack a vital step to having fully fleshed motives. It would be better if Marche went through a similar arc wherein he starts out enjoying the world, but then realizes the hollowness of it all instead of him seeing through the shroud from the start. After all, it is true that Marche's own life is better here. Everyone's life is improved.
    So what if ... Marche starts out enjoying the world, but slowly he sees how his friends and brother are still plagued by the problems they had in the past, thereby showing how Ivalice doesn't solve their problems. Ritz's current backstory works fine. Her insecurities in the real world can still exist in Ivalice. Mewt, Doned, and Marche however need some amendments.
    - Marche: make his sacrifice more tangible. For example, during the snowball fight, we can have Marche step in and take one of the rocks thrown at Mewt. He's bleeding too, but once he gets home, nobody cares and he patches it up on his own. Make Marche's family not so well-off, so that Marche has to give up food for his younger brother. Hunger and Neglect, these are things visceral to children. Have Marche resent his brother and parents (to his own surprise and shame) because of this. Marche is a frustrated, jealous, yet ashamed kid gifted freedom from everything in Ivalice. This can explain why he doesn't attempt to search for his brother at the beginning of the game.
    - Doned: we can play into this sibling rivalry more. Make Doned a more demanding character, always accustomed to getting his way, and having a temper when he does not. Make it so that to Doned, destiny - the world - and the people in it, owe him in compensation for his crippling. Let Doned's frustrations and jealousies of Marche take form in Ivalice. Doned should show up as a rival clan to Nutsy throughout the story, constantly competing for the same prize (and to keep Marche from blowing up the world

    Marche to me always stood out as someone older than his years. He clearly had to mature fast with his family life and as a result he understands that the game world is exactly that and the sooner they go back the easier it will be on them all. Which he was totally correct in because they all get super attached to the world and fuck everything up as a result.
    All im gonna say about the Marche and Doned scene is, you have so missed the point on it. Psychological damage growing up can warp a child and be rough to deal with. He clearly says that he stopped asking for things and faded into the background so that Doned could get all the attention since he was crippled. Thats a huge decision for a CHILD to make and its something he's clearly been carrying silently until that scene when, after spending all this time fighting the people hes trying to help because he does truly know better than them, he breaks and finally spills it all to his brother, the one person he clearly loves more than anything. That scene more than anything shows just how mature Marche is imo.

    Ahhh... This game. This game this game this game. Dear lord did I play it for a good long while. After I lost my SP, I started using my DS and *that* was fun, playing on the bottom screen to emulate the GBA. I remember getting the one knife that let you *permanently* steal other abilities and just having the dumbest smile as I went around like a memory thief, grabbing abilities from everything, and cackling all the while. It was great. For that reason alone it's one of my fondest remembered games. ... I will agree that Marche's motivations could have been explored better, though.
    For my own take, it always seemed like Marche was... I dunno, it was hard to describe- He was motivated, but for a while it didn't seem like he really had a clear, hard stance to take. I can understand where he was coming from, because like, the world's pretty cool and all but... What about everyone else? Yeah, the kids lives are better, but it also seems to come at the expense of *most* other people. People they like get raised up. People they don't... Well. Zombies. Everyone else is an extra or worse. Kinda says it all, there. ... But yeah Marche really could have explained his position better. Or given a better argument. To be fair, he also seems like a kid trying to be older than he his, likely because Donned's issue and divorced father kinda forced him to, so throwing him into an environment like that where everything's been taken out from under him and he has no control over anything...
    Just a little terrifying. Also realizing your mother is suddenly vanished and you can't find her anywhere. ... Worse if he *did* find her and she didn't remember anything.
    What I guess I'm trying to say is everyone has some understandable reason *why* they want to or don't want to stay. Some are more understandable (Donned being able to *walk* holy shit the poor boy must have cried with joy or something when he was able to do that! Mewt was in power and his father not a deadbeat! Ritz wasn't bullied relentlessly anymore!) than others (Marche pls just support your position adequately aaaaaaaaa), but... Yeah. Ultimately I'd call it a fondly remembered nostalgic game. Even if trying to do *all* the missions to get all the special characters probably scarred me as a child...

    Making Marche the disabled of the brothers would have been far better thematically and having some of the other kids join the party permanently would have been better to get more interaction. Show that this world's 'Mom' was an idealized fake that would end up neutering Mewt's mental growth due to his misunderstanding about parenting and development as she would spoil him rotten (and maybe give his dad a good ending where he meets a potential girlfriend at the end that Mewt is fond of, maybe her being one of the party members that Cid talks with after defecting).

    I mean, I get Marche with Doneth. Do you know how hard is to take care of sick people, specially when it's a chronic or incurable problem? Now imagine that as a child.
    It's a bitter thing to be forced to as Marche said, give up your wants, without really being able to complain. We see Marche being all about his brother in the intro so it's not like he treated him badly, but one cannot avoid feeling frustrated on such situations.

    • @714KH
      @714KH 3 года назад +4

      Yes, his take on Marche being "privileged" couldn't be any further from the truth. How is the character priviledged when they literally expressed that they don't get what they want because they understand how important and time comsuming it is to take care of their disabled brother? He's literally showing adult maturity that he shouldn't even have to have at his age. And he's clearly never resented his brother for it.
      I grew up around my disabled cousin and aunt, and while I wasn't with them every day, sometimes it would become very difficult for me to understand as a kid why what I wanted needed to be put on a backburner for my cousin's whims or needs. Why I was essentially being treated as an older sibling to someone who is a grown adult, but has the mind of a child? I can't even begin to imagine how tough it must be for people with disabled siblings who have to live with that reality on a daily. Of course you love them and want to protect them, but at the end of the day you are a kid too and want or need things just like every other kid. His review could have used a bit more understanding and empathy towards Marche.

  • @christophercurtis6092

    I would consider Marche's decision to leave Ivalice (and making Mewt, Ritz, & Doned leave in the process), comparable to Dumbledore telling Harry about the Mirror of Erised
    , "It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts. Now you, who have never known your family, you see them standing beside you. But remember this, Harry. This mirror gives us neither knowledge or truth.
    "
    Marche knows it's not healthy for them to stay in this world because, "The happiest man on earth would look into the mirror and see only himself, exactly as he is.
    "

    I know first-hand growing up as a child with a sick sibling that having your parents completely ignore you in favor of them can really suck and often breeds awkward resentment you feel guilty for having, especially because you expect people to react exactly as you did in the video. I feel like if the writing was a little better Marche would try to explain that the point isn't to compare who has the biggest problems on a scale, but to remember that everyone has problems and issues they have to deal with and running away is just making yourself into a victim. Marche is pretty young so honestly he is just venting rather than making an actual argument, also that line about being able to run when Doned goes back is insane.

    S'Funny. I haven't played this game in years, but it really is a codifier of my childhood and gaming tastes.
    I had a conversation with my mom in the Wal-Mart about this game's rating. It's a keystone moment for me, as it exemplifies the kind of parenting for gamers that we need so desperately.
    Also, this game dropped me into the world of SRPGs. Without this game, I'm not sure I would've been into Fire Emblem or Banner Saga.
    Finally, the world and story were the first REAL exposure for me to complex stories and motivations, not to mention the idea of "everyone is the hero of their own story" and the escapism we all struggle with as young gamers.
    Great game. One of my top ten, easily.

    Mmm, I think the scene with Donned is more about Marche being a kid, feeling responsible for his brother, and sacrificing his mother's attention because his brother is sick--implied to be temporary--and this scene is his bottled up emotions surfacing. Of course he resents his brother, but Marche also knows that it isn't his brother's fault and also that his brother is being selfish--which is galling for Marche who has sacrificed for his brother. This isn't a scene blaming Donned, this is a scene to crush Donned's view of Marche and Marche's "perfect" life.

    • @wolfofsummerbreeze
      @wolfofsummerbreeze 5 лет назад +1

      Mostly I think this game really focuses on the childish impulses of the cast, so viewing it as the characters being mature adults in characterization is dumb.
      Mary-sues are power fantasies, and this whole world is Mewts, so Llednar fits perfectly.

    Wait what...how are you flaming Marche for feeling alone. That's a real life legitamate situation that countless kids have dealt with. While partially faulted by the way they view the world and parental interaction (levels of attention in comparison to the handicapped brother), it regularly hits kids in a way that makes them have to withdraw their own request and grow up faster being a caretaker of the family member in need. This. Is. COMMON!..most people focus on the handicapped on and if that one is alright which is NORMAL. But rarely do people question the sibiling to see if they are being taken care of. They do NOT in fact have "everything". That's a stigma and often makes the kid feel like they in fact CAN"T ask for anything or express how they feel. Why? Because everyone in the dam world is too busy being pretentious while pointing the finger. "How dare you feel that way Marche, YoU cAn WaLk"..i turn my nose up at you KBash...i turn my nose up...

    I feel like you have special nostalgic feelings with this game. The fact you still see Marche as a bad guy shows you haven't necessarily grown up from when you've first played this game. Sure you acknowledge that Marche is guilt tripping his crippled brother but...
    What about the bullies that got turned zombies because of apparent karma from mistakes they made as kids when they were in the real world. They are living Mewt's ideal world and everyone's fates within the game are governed by Mewt's mind. Marche says multiple times that this world is an illusion and the whole game has an underlying allegory of escapism.

I still have my copy of the game, stupid Sharpie initials slapped on by my mom in case it ever got stolen and all. Between the music, which I found out only recently that on the OST has non-gameboy versions of most of the songs and by golly are they good, the childhood nostalgia and time sunk into it, and the general gameplay, this will probably remain high on my lists of games.

    I don't think it's really paternalist of Marche to want the world to go back. Afterall, he's not just making that decision for Ritz and Mewt, *he's* there too. He has his own wants and needs, and if he allowed things to stay as they were he would be acceding to the whims of others at the expense of his own desires. Also, the game/book is an extended metaphor for people who retreat from reality into fantasy worlds of their own creation to avoid facing reality. When you view the game more as a metaphor and less as like "this is actually happening and they could all stay here and live happily ever after if they wanted" it makes more sense for Marche to push for a return to the real world.

    I loved this game in my childhood, found myself completely immersed in its world. It's not too difficult that you have to break the immersion to look up a guide, though combat *is* a pushover if unless you limit yourself. It's as easy as reading book sometimes, and little me loved reading those little tidbits of lore in every enemy, item or location bio. The bios aren't Nier automata levels of world building, but l was imaginative enough to fill in the rest.

    Wait, your problem with Marsh is essentially that he'd rather not live in the Matrix???
    And then you rag on him for expressing himself to his brother... I get that he's being a selfish idiot but he's also a child and that's probably how most would feel.
    Forget your privilege bullshit, his brother should've stood up for himself if he really wanted to stay. Of course, he couldn't though because he's an even younger child.

  • @justsomejojo
    @justsomejojo 2 года назад

    I wish I could remember how I felt when I played this game for the first time, because Marche's and Doned's roles are VERY similar to my brother's and mine (though thank god I'm not bound to a wheel chair...). I replayed the game countless times over the years, but always for the gameplay while skipping through the plot, so stuff like the Doned-Marche scenes were blurry in my memory. Heck, I completely missed the detail of the zombies being named after Mewt's bullies.
    Replaying the game, I actually like the idea of the story because it pits several very real issues I had as a kid and still have (bullying, handicaps, undesirable body traits, thankfully not alcoholic parents) against the position of "escapism bad". I enjoy my views being challenged by the game, even though in my opinion, it could have been written much much better. Marche's reason is never really hinted at before or after, it's not fleshed out at all - and that's bad when, yeah, he's probably the character with the least RL problems of them all (he's the new kid, but brave enough to find friends quickly so this never is presented as an issue, he has a crippled brother, which he elaborates on once and then never again and his and Doned's parents are divorced, which the game only mentions in passing, making it seem like this isn't really a problem to him). I think the story would have worked much better if Marche's issues were mentioned more often and openly, like the rest of the cast, so as to make Marche's position less paternal and more conflicted. The base of it, I think is really interesting regardless.
    As it stands, the game will still stay a fun revisit for the gameplay alone though.

    My #1 critique of this game is, yeah there are 40 classes, but each race is limited to 10 classes so you don't get as strong a sense of character evolution as you do in the original FFT where an individual character can progress through a series of interesting classes.

    Excelent review for a game that I couldn't get myself into very much, unlike it's older brother from the PS1 era.
    If you don't mind, gonna do a fast review here where I focus more on the gameplay because I usually like the gameplay the most on my RPGs, but let's start with the story a bit anyway:
    I think the story is pretty passable for the game, not gonna say "but it'z 2 ch1ldish !!1!", a snowball fight tutorial was pretty clever and the fact that all characters are children who deal with real life struggles is what I find a great start for the story. Final Fantasy Tactics might had a more mature theme, but this game's more emotional themes is what I like about Advance... and then Marche becomes a huge jerk and make everybody unhappy, but hey, I'm not picky with my RPG stories, so I still like it.
    But the gameplay... oh my jeez the gameplay, what have they done to you? we have the stupid law system where it doesn't make fighters harder, but gimmicky or sometimes "unfair", and no, just because it's an SRPG, that doesn't excuse the fact that you have to start a fight, press a button, look at the laws, put your guys and then continue, just because it's a slow game, it doesn't mean you should put an awful mechanic that can slow things even more. ("FIGHT IS FORBIDDEN? BUT THAT'S AT THE START OF THE GAME AND I ONLY HAVE ONE MAGIC USER!") If you want to increase difficulty in your SRPG, you should maybe make a better designed map or more powerful enemies or whatever, not this stupid system where punishes players for no real reason besides "but the plot is about that!"
    The ability item system sounds like an upgrade from the "throw rocks at your own guys to unlock abilities" but it's still very annoying to do, are you saying that I can't use the best item from my inventory because I still need to learn a healing spell? Also the fact that you have to pick so many battles for it to become available... and not only that, you have to actually learn some skills to unlock classes, so it takes many and many battles to unlock that class from that character that you get. Also are you high with the "because your new characters aren't totally useless" argument? I mean, theoretically yes, but the fact that whenever you get a new character they come up to you with NO ABILITIES WHATSOEVER kinda nullifies the idea of this system. (Also some abilities require you 999 AP to get them, and that's like 33 battles using the same item.)
    There's some gross combos that you can do in the main game, but the same can be applied to PS1 game, so nothing new to talk about it anyway.
    I love the idea of doing missions and getting a reward from them, but I would prefer the traditional way of "red dots for plot, green dots for random battles". Also it feels really bad whenever there's a mission that requires a specific item but you don't have it so you wait until you get that mission that gives you that item, but the older mission isn't there anymore and you have to wait more to get back into that mission... and sometimes when you need to throw away some of your quest items for other items and screw up a requirement of a mission... it's a mess basically.
    And because of these things I couldn't get myself to like Advance as much, everytime there's a cool battle, it puts you with awful laws, annoying ability grinds and when there's no battle, you have to get some stupid item that depends on RNG to get it.

    Definitely on the polar opposite side of your views on Marche, but that's okay. I loved this game when I was a kid and I think, at least, the gameplay portion of the review was very well done!

    this game was part of my childhood. i played through it multiple times as a kid. i got all missions but one or two, where you had to have one spezial item to start i never figured out how to get. in the end my character was an absolute beast of a counterstriking warrior with 2 weapons and i got into an on/off relationship with the red haired girl and her sexy furry friend.

    When Marshe tells Donne that he will be able to walk on his own... I was thinking... Marshe now wants to br a doctor (or nurse) to help his brother...
    That is actually very VERY SUBTLE about, but when you compare the real world with the game... you see technology, you see growth, not a regression, Ivalice game is medieval, kill or be killed, there are problems yes! But can be evolved - upgraded if you want, so I was optimistic about this scene.

    This game is good, really fucking good, It had such an addictive gameloop, gorgeous art, absolutely lovely music specially for a gba game, it had soooo much content ,even really rivaling ff war of the lions, the races were implemented so awesomely and for all the little issues it had it brought something to the table to really enjoy
    I think the biggest reason this game got downplayed by many was that final fantasy tactics was such an amazing game with such an unforgettable story and that's where tactics advance really doesn't compare but as a game it is more than good

    to be honest, I feel Marche's actions are both justified and not justified. But he's a kid at this point, you do bring up many good points. Though really the theme of this game is escapism and dealing with it. Though its clear your reviewing style has improved since this. May i recommend a revisit and maybe a visit to the sequel?

    Wait so these three children who want to stay in this fantasy world cause they get bullied are right, but the other child who is mature enough to realize that staying in this fantasy isn't the way to deal with there problems is wrong. That's why everyone is soft.

    • @xxChainingHeartsxx
      @xxChainingHeartsxx 5 лет назад

      The problems those 3 faced were some serious-HARMFUL stuff beyond their control to deal with & your telling me it's better to put them back in such a harsh enviroment vs just allowing them to stay in the new healthy one where they THRIVED?
      If we're "soft" then you're heartless.

      @@xxChainingHeartsxx Suffering leads to strength and comeuppance. How else would these kids grow up to be better than the people who put them down? You saw how Mewt turned out despite having everything given to him...
      Mewt became selfish, weak and would run to his mother to solve his problems for him. Mewt became a worse person despite the positive change.
      It's not exactly "soft" to wish for a better life and circumstances, but it IS "soft" to expect the world to change and give them to you for nothing.

      @@TaperoscOh please spare me all that, childern with problems like that today high likely either kill themselves as a final resort to end their suffering or become really fucked up adults later on. My problem with Marche/the story is that they wanna spout out crap about facing our problems...yet they present half ass resolutions for most of them. Okay so fantasy Ivalice is destroyed & the real world is restored like Marche wanted..now what? Sure Ritz & Doned gained a bit more self confidence while Mewt's is ASSUMED to be on the path of recovery but the bullying is still a problem.
      Speaking of Mewt, I don't understand why the others couldn't just either:
      A) come together to get their friend to calmdown.
      B) Just overthrow his ass & still stay in the fantasy world.

      I came from a low income family when I was a child and this statement here is something that I can really back up. When you are used to facing problems, you will mature and develop a lot faster. I think Marche definitely did the right thing. You can't keep on escaping the things that's in front of you, if you do, it will only get bigger and bigger. Making it much harder to deal with in the future. This leads to some people committing suicide. By that, I think I can really say that children nowadays are soft. They can't handle problems/pressure. They cry at the very first sign of it and tend to find other alternatives for their so called "shitty" lives.

    • @xxChainingHeartsxx
      @xxChainingHeartsxx 5 лет назад

      @@serkg4672 But they're method of escapism is COMPLETELY different from the conventional definition. While most are only able to latch on to particular obsessions to immerse in..these children where able to jump realities by conjuring a brand new one of their own & had the opportunity to have a new fresh start. How is that still considered escapism? Fantasy Ivalice was a legit world of it's own right.

    You sir... have what I made Marche. I personally consider that to be the most *broken* class combo in the game... you can learn Angel Whisper, White Wind, Ultima Shot, Concentrate, and Bonecrusher all on one unit, thus making yourself virtually unstoppable. Give yourself the Gastra Bow and you can hit anything super hard with next to no effort.
    Also I'm glad *SOMEONE* put what I was thinking for about 15 years, into words. Thank you.

    I can understand Marche's frustration with being bound as a caretaker to his sick brother in the real world, but I believe he was wrong in trying to bring Donned back to St.Ivalice. In the realm of Ivalice, both Marche and his brother would have been liberated from their previous constraints. Donned wouldn't have required constant care; he would have enjoyed the freedom to pursue his desires and interests at his own pace. Similarly, Marche wouldn't have been relegated to a secondary role to Donned, and he could have embraced a new life on his own terms. Essentially, Marche's mentality with his brother is "I had to suck it up and deal with it, so you have to suck it up and deal with it, you don't get to be free if I wasn't free."
    I believed disabled people can lead fulfilling lives. However, it's reasonable to say that after experiencing the freedom of good health and ability , no sane person would willingly choose to return to a state of immobility and sickness. Donned's desire to be happy with his new body in Ivalice should not be criticized as mere escapism. There are legitimate hardships and challenges in the real world that one might genuinely wish to escape without being unfairly judged as weak, immature, or cowardly.
