Excellent video. I love the closeup shots as well as the detailed explanations that you provide that others don’t.

Love the detailed explanation in all your series Brian. Reminds me of machining, in which the geometry of the cut is also key to understanding. Thank you.

This is the missing demonstration for what I've read about type-II chips. The sections on reading grain direction across faces and raising scraped grain to show pore tearout I've never seen discussed before. I'm really looking forward to this series, thanks for putting it together.

Brian thanks very much for this excellent presentation which demonstrated so clearly what is happening at the cutting edge. Brilliant!

Brian, I enjoy your knowledge and want to thank you for sharing in these videos. I have followed your work for a long time through Fine Woodworking magazine. This subject is interesting and I don’t believe I have seen other examples of this type of tutorial. You may enjoy my channel. Arborist Blair Glenn

nice video, thank you for a very thorough explaination. a question i have now, if you raise the angle on your 12 degree bevel up plane will it cut just the same as the higher angle plane you showed before? you can put a 45 degree micro bevel and get to 52,5 angle easy right?

another question is how important the mouth adjustment vs planing angle. supposedly a very small opening before the blade pushes the grain down and prevents if from raising and tearing as you plane. that correct?
