I suggest that your science club engages in recording dimensions of common parts that can be easily found in packaging or in common items (like dowels from flagpoles or broomsticks etc.) I am always looking for perfect fit among all the man-made items that surround me, because I want to build machines without custom made parts. take out a small motor from any toy take the both terminal from motor to led upto 6volts dc it give you from rotating the motor simple....this I did at the age of 12yr

You have to add permanent magnet on rotor to convert ac motor to generator
