Since it sometimes gets to -40 Celsius here in Canada I always try to have about a 60/40 (antifreeze/water) mix. It's better to be on the safer side than ending up with overheated engine or even a cracked blocked. A 60/40 mix won't cause the engine any harm and antifreeze is not overly expensive as well. Besides, you can always add a little more water anytime during the year if you need to top up the radiator without worrying about over diluting the antifreeze/water ratio.
First off, make sure you NEVER USE WATER WITH MINERALS ON IT! Minerals cause Corrosion and can damage the cooling system. Make sure you use Distilled Water
How come on the actual BMW antifreeze/coolant it says De-ionized water? Why is everyone using distilled?
Came through in a clutch! Thanks man this was awesome
Chris Pielacha sure thing man! Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Agreed 👍
Great easy informative clip! Thanks homie
Audio sounds greats. This is already magic. Subscribed already

sick vid!!! FYI my N55 E71 X6's coolant tank is on the right side of the engine bay
Thank you for stopping by the channel! And thanks for the heads up, I’m not very familiar with the X6 unfortunately
@@HorsepowerPizza The X5 and X6 with N55 are the same configuration, but your video really helped especially because the coolant expansion tank on the SUV are super weak and crack, that’s when I stumbled upon your vid. Thanks again.
Glad to be of assistance! Be careful with those thin plastic coolant vent lines from the expansion tank too, I just broke one by accident!
Thanx for this vid bro. Very helpful!
I do 60/40. 60 distilled water. 40 coolant.
im not sure if this is a dumb question.. but currently im running concentrate mixed with distilled water at 50/50, so next time when I need more coolant am I able to use pre-mixed coolant? or do I have to get concentrate and mix it myself again?
I’d say that’s up to you, I run 50/50 pre mixed in my daily driver and in my drift car, but my 435i I run all oem fluids so I mix it myself
And for anyone who doesn't have a coolant resivour (me) pour into the rad with a non spill funnel until the rad is full, start vehicle and keep pouring so it rulings through system.
You can also put a hose or toob, (attached to a water bottle with a hole in the lid), on the coolant over beside the rad cap. It works the same and costs no money. Just don't let it hit the fan 😂
So just pour the same amount of coolant and the same amount of water?
im from the philippines. Do I need to mix it with distilled water?
If the coolant you have is not 50/50 pre mixed, yes I would mix it with distilled water
very helpful and informative
Josy Johnson thanks for the feedback and for stopping by the channel!
How about coolant mix ratio when coolant hit peak at 110C. How to keep it lower may be about 105C. I use 50/50 coolant ratio
which water you had use distilled or normal
Distilled
Because we all know its better to be inside playing PlayStation over Xbox.
I mixed anti-freeze with water and jug felt warm, threw away
Cause I thought I were defective
I have a 95 dakota v8mag she's a beaut.
I put in little bit windscreen washer in the coolant by mistake, coolant was 85% from max and i filled rest 15% with windscreen washer. Basically i was suppose to put it in its right place but made a mistake. You think I can drive my car with little bit of windscreen washer in my coolant?
Thanks
billytube as I am not a mechanic, I’m not sure what to tell you. I feel like it *probably* wouldn’t hurt the car, but again, I’m not a professional. Contact your local mechanic and best of luck
@@HorsepowerPizza I have spoken to a garage and they said it should not cause an issue as both have anti freesze properties. I am just dubious as I have been reading conflicting comments on internet :?
billytube I’d says run it then, should be fine
I was on the rush i poured only coolant. No water. What could be the problems?
If it was pre mixed 50/50 that you bought you’ll be fine, if it was straight coolant concentrate it might be corrosive to components of the cooling system, you can always add water to it, it’s not that big of a deal
@@HorsepowerPizza thanks
Can I get coolant bmw it's already mix with water
Might be good to invest a couple of bucks in a funnel.
A 6 minute video on how to mix antifreeze. Could have been done in 1.
Hey man thanks for stopping by the channel!
How long should you wait before driving once mixture has been poured into the coolant tank? Or is it ready to run.
Jordon Valle it’s ready to run!
Another dumb, almost jokeful kind of question! Wow!!
@@terrythomas790😂 who the hell are you? Oh right. Noone.
thanks bro, i have e32 750il and was just using the coolant straight out of the jug...i wonder if its going to hurt my car?
Galvakistan Veteran thanks for stopping by! I just did a very brief google search and I haven’t gathered anything that says it’ll hurt your car, but if you’re in a very cold climate, pure coolant freezes not much lower temperature than water, so generally speaking, mix at least 60-70% coolant with 30% water for best results in cold weather. The mixture helps the coolant perform the way it’s chemically supposed to. Hope this helps!
Thanks bro!!
Galvakistan Veteran not a problem, bro! Best of luck!
I live in Florida and was wondering if it’s okay to have 60 water 40 coolant
I personally wouldn’t see any issue with that
So were gonna ignore the murder that happened at 2:50!? Ok
Mauricio Rodriguez those neighbor kids never shut up 😂
cant u just dump a whole gallon of water and a whole gallon of coolant and be 50/50
TheManny408 you could do that, but if you don’t have a 2 gallon container to store it in, this is how I do it
can you use a pyrex glass measuring cup to mix antifreeze? is it safe ti wash and use with food,
You could use a Pyrex measuring cup, but I would not recommend using it for food afterwards, even if properly washed.
I always separate my chemical containers and food use containers entirely
I did this and bleed my radiator of air bubbles but still getting a coolant level low error light when it first turns on but goes away when driven for a mile or so
I’d just keep an eye on it. Every vehicle is a little bit different but as long as you did it properly and the level is correct you should be alright
I have a weird question here, but I was just wondering because ever since I got my BMW about 15,000 miles I've been randomly getting the engine coolant low signal, and I had no clue that you had to mix 50% coolant and 50% distilled water, because I never did that. Recently I got a coolant low warning, and my assumption is that since I never mixed coolant with distilled water, the coolant is always going to go l low since I never mixed it with distilled water. What would someone suggest that I do at this point? Every time the engine coolant level gets lower, maybe add distilled water until at one point it would even out?
Very random. Otherwise, I have a leak:(
Roger Tiwari unless you’re buying pre mixed coolant, you’ll have to mix it. If you buy 50/50 premix it will say “do not add water” on the bottle. I would say your best bet is to add coolant that you mixed next time that it’s low, but it sounds to me like you have a leak somewhere
I use OEM only reccomended fluids . LOL thats your first mistake !! There are fluids that exceed. Requirements of OEM and most OEM fluids are usually crap , you want to go high spec fluids , synthetic oils , the best coolants etc....
Never had an issue. Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Just made me once again regret buying a BMW. Like seriously
I’m sorry to hear that!
Is it ok to mix coolant with water and keep it in the bottle for future use, for a month or two ?
Thushan Hewakoparage absolutely!
Yes,just shake it every once in a while, but not more than twice..you know what they say about shaking it more than twice..
No, I don’t ^^^^
@@Soldier1287 if you shake it more than twice-you’re playing with it. Same goes for when you’re taking a piss.
Really? LOL What do you thinks sitting in those 50/50 coolant jugs everywhere on the planet?
can i use purified water instead
Distilled is recommended but use what you have in an emergency!
Where did you get that bottle
In the kitchen section at Target
And I was just going to pour one Gallon coolant one gallon distilled water and so on. Truck takes 12 gallons of coolant and I’m lazy 🤣
Mixing large quantities, that’s probably your best bet!
Can you just pour coolant then water?
Mariano Alvarez depending on your climate you can probably get away with it if there isn’t a chance of it freezing. Mixed coolant will cool and regulate the engine temperature a lot more efficiently, though. I’m not a mechanic so with any further questions I’d contact a local mechanic. Thank you for stopping by the channel!
@@HorsepowerPizza i think the he meat without using the bottle but put coolant in the reservoir first THEN put the same amount of water in the reservior.

What coolant is that?
NICHOLAS LANDOLINA it is BMW coolant concentrate that you can purchase from your local dealer or from an online European auto supplier like Bavarian Autosport!
drinking water from shop is not good
You’re supposed to use distilled water, this is distilled water
"Bailey"? Seriously?
Yes, that would be my name
Can i use deminarilized water ?
No , dont use de-mineralised water thats all crap , you use SOFT water , soft water is bottled water or reverse osmosis filtered water , de-mineralising water takes out essential minerals your car actually needs
Good video, thanks.
But generally, if you're doing a how-to presentation get rid of the background music. It's distracting. This goes for ALL video creators. You can have background music for showcasing stuff.
Had to skip guy never gets to the point!!!
