Funny you should say that as 1 of the 3 surviving models I still have from that force is a Malcador Defender which ended up getting drafted to my 30k Emperor's Children. I have a feeling it's going to be a beast in 8th with split firing 7 Heavy Bolters, Stubber and Demo Cannon.
This is by far one of my favorite batreps on youtube currently, the atmosphere and the gorgeous armies works really well. Plus there are not that many great Renegades & Heretics batreps around.

Hey. Nice batrep. I'm thinking that vehicle explosion rolls should be done by the owner of the model, so the person can choose to use command-points to re-roll them.
I get the feeling that a codex will implement a universal rule of some sort that will make the tanks better (I hope). The Guard and Traitor guard have lost their backbone in a big way :( ...but the Guard would never quit and neither should I. Praise the Emperor and pass the las packs!
Great battle reports. Fantastic looking armies. I have an Lord Executioner model but in my army he is Flesh Tearers Third Company Brother Captain Raziel Cain. And he would not cowardly hide behind his battle brothers like the Ultramarine captain did but would soar over the battlefield and brought death to the enemies of the Imperium. Seriously now if the Ultramarine player didn't what to get to close combat with the captain wasn't a captain without jump pack but with maybe combi-plasma/grav/melta been a better choice. And a land speeder with multi-melta or a tactical squad instead of an assault squad. I am really confused why he took those units with jump packs and them kept them back the whole game. One question regarding the heretic army. Are rules for forge world models been updated for the 8th edition? What book contain the new rules?
Some tips for anyone playing Renegades and Heretics; With militia squads, it's all in the options! It's true that their stats are worse than conscripts, but two in ten assault weapons really makes a difference! Flamers auto-hit anyways, and grenade launchers can up your shots by D6 each. Nurgle is easily the worst covenant, too; Tzeench makes you shoot just as well in overwatch, which is hilarious when the enemy is assault heavy. Khorne makes you okay in melee for a turn, or actively good if the squad is big enough... Like, your militia is going to die by the end of the game no matter what you do, but make no mistake, they are supposed to be used offensively, unlike regular guard!
It's okay-ish in combo with the militia, letting you close the distance and assault quickly before getting shot up too badly... Not a great use of their potential firepower, but a good tarpiting unit... Honestly, though, mutants benefit much more from it, since they can take shotguns (handy since assault weapons), and also stand the chance of getting random melee buffs from their own rules. Ogyrns benefit too, obviously, since they have no guns at all. So I guess it depends on what exactly is in your army.
I'd like to see the Militia training comeback for the Renegades. There are things you can do to make the Renegades playable but I just shake my head at a Cultist being a better shot than a real Solider
Very true. The lack of aura effects for the Renegade Commander I also find a little annoying. You should just be able to take the covenant without them. :/
I ran a cultist footslogger khorne force vs templar armor, same results; If we wanted a chessy win, we'd abuse raptor/warptalon/drake spame with a bunch of chaos preds
What the Ultramarines didn't know is, the Chaos Generals wanted to deplete their ammunition for a future date. I'd say this was a roaring success for the Renegades!
A very viable strat with you baneblade is to charge each turn, its decent in combat (and still hard to hurt) and then if he wants to shoot your baneblade he has to fall back, thus stopping that unit from shooting or fighting. There is no downsides to this strat, as you can fire in combat, or fall back and still shoot/charge.
Hey Grim, well you can't win them all. Just some friendly advice from one wargamer to another, when your dice are not co operating. SWITCH your dice. Nice Batrep though!

Great looking Renegade Guard force, makes me regret selling mine many years ago though.
Forgeworld did a great job on the design, I really think a Malcador tank would fit in really nicely with these chaps too.

I think Chronos in a tank always uses his 2+ Ballistic Skill, even when damaged. They had it in a FAQ.

Sentinals become seperate units after deployment.
Is that in an errata?
In the index they dont have the vehicle squadron rule, so they continue to be a unit after deployment. ;D
