  • @JJJ12987
    @JJJ12987 10 лет назад +8

    RA and Em collab would be DOPE. RA & Eminem are top 3 lyricists. My only issue with RA here is that he took the record sale argument, which is void, because you cannot compare Drake to Big L because Big L was rap through and through, Drake is a popstar, you can't compare pop to rap when it comes to sales. Comparing albums like MMLP, Illmatic, Legends Never Die, Ready to Die etc., then you can bring in sales, because they are solid albums.

    • @zyx1236
      @zyx1236 10 лет назад +6

      From my understanding, he didn't mean to use record sales as an argument, but tried to show, that it makes no sense to use this argument. This is exactly why he names so many examples, where it doesn't fit. I would even state, that sales are never a good argument, because there is something like a "pop component" or "mainstream component", that influences sales even in a non-mainstream or non-pop genre (this is basically the idea of an own mainstream in every genre).

    RA The Rugged Man is nice on the mic device. But I just prefer Eminem, I think he is nicer, and it's really just a matter of opinion.
    I think Eminem has better multi-syllable rhyme schemes and word play, now, even if you think RA has better rhyme skills, then that's fine, but I also feel Em says his words in a more entertaining and rhythmic delivery, he also enunciates his words more clearer, especially his rhymes. Now, when it just comes to lyrical content, it's whatever, both touch on subjects that interest me, or entertain me, and both can say some thought provoking stuff.

    • @Bound2Mus1c

      Should listen to a Vietnam Story: Uncommon Valor by R.A, his first verse in that song just completely MURDERS anything Em has ever came up with. R.A spit fire and I'd like to see Em come up with lyrics like that or even a multi-syllable rhyme scheme.

    • @Marz916
      @Marz916 10 лет назад +7

      Jonathan Bonilla
      Yeah, I heard that verse years ago, it's a track with Jedi Mind Tricks. It's also the first verse that I think of when it comes to R.A. The Rugged Man, it was a very, very good verse, it's amazing. Still, it doesn't change the fact that I prefer Eminem's voice, delivery, and overall charisma more. If you prefer R.A. more, then good for you, what do you want me to say? If you think that murders anything Eminem has done, that's cool too.
      R.A. pretty much wrote that Uncommon Valor track because of his dad's experience in Vietnam. It was a great verse that told a deep and violent story accompanied by great rhyme schemes. Eminem is mostly known for rhyme schemes, I mean, look at the song 3 A.M. it's an incredible display of multi-syllable rhymes that is not just carried out through just one verse, but it carries through a whole song. If you don't like it, then you don't like it, I'm not going to try to change your mind.

    • @Marz916
      @Marz916 9 лет назад

      *****
      Eminem is probably the greatest pure rhymer of all-time in my opinion, and it's not just the 3 A.M., which did come off a decent album, though his first two major releases are his best work. But yeah, Rakim is pretty much the pioneer of advanced rhyming, and then of course Kool G Rap, and definitely Big Pun, and I also like to add Big L to that group, and even Slick Rick had his impressive rhyming moments.

    • @Marz916
      @Marz916 9 лет назад +2

      *****
      Well, I was being generous when I said "decent". It's okay if you're a huge Eminem fan, but overall, yeah, it's not very good. I think the Eminem Show was the last very good album he's made. I though Recovery had some flashes, but mostly eh, and I thought Marshall Mathers LP 2 had some very good moments, but once again, inconsistent.
      I enjoyed Rugged Man's Legends album, it's a very good Hip Hop album, bouncy boom bap beats, and he spits a lot of rhymes, but that's really about it, the album is a very good head nodder. Like I stated on an earlier comment, I'm not too big on Rugged Man's voice, or his charisma, he's a very good rhymer, but he doesn't really tell interesting or detailed stories or says anything thought provoking or has very clever lines, though he does have his moments as well. I just feel songs like Stan, and especially Lose Yourself tell a story without sacrificing rhyming ability, he pretty much rhymes almost every word on a bar sometimes while still telling and moving a story along. It's just opinion.

    • @Marz916
      @Marz916 9 лет назад

      *****
      Yes, I mentioned Uncommon Valor in my earlier comments. And yeah, Eminem is not as good as he used to be, but he is still better than a lot of mainstream artists. And yeah, some have said that Eminem is overrated because of Dr. Dre, and yeah, they might have a point, but I heard of Eminem way before Dr. Dre, and even remember the Unsigned Hype article about Eminem on the Source, way before Dr. Dre, and before the internet was the norm. But of course, Dr. Dre gets people a bigger audience, he did it for Snoop, Eminem, and now Kendrick Lamar.
      Again, Rugged has a dirty and raw style, but Eminem just has a better and unique voice, bouncier flow, and just more pleasing to my ears. Eminem's Infinite album is one of the more impressive displays of rhyming I've heard.

    Hard for me to understand why people, even on the comments for this video, even after hearing what RA said, still want to choose sides. It is possible to appreciate that Eminem is one of the greatest rappers to have ever been signed to a major label, and that RA is one of the greatest rappers that was overlooked, however unfortunate that is. You don't have to hate Eminem to be a Rugged Man fan and vice-versa. There is more than one spot for a white rapper. It used to irritate the fuck out of me to hear Tu Pac fans claim Biggie was whack, or WSC fans to hate on Cypress Hill. And those were actual beefs going on. If you can't recognize that RA and Eminem are both great rappers, why the fuck are you even listening to Hip Hop?
    Digression: Love these videos. RA has a lot to say and he's been around longer than most rappers in the game today. When you talk about underground legends, RA the Rugged Man better be at the top of the list, right there with Rakim, Eightball and MJG and Bun B and Pimp C.

It's all just opinion. Even if you think either Eminem or RA isn't all that good, that's fine too. I think Nas is technically skilled but I find him dull. That's just my taste. Em has much better wordplay, muli syllable rhyme schemes, better flow, and better delivery. You obviously haven't listened to all his discography. Em is in the big leagues for a reason, you can't just hate him because he was good with marketing himself, he also came from the underground. He just had a way bigger influence and impac than RA, it's not even close. That's like saying a street basketball player with all time skills was better than Jordan even though he never played professionally. Unless you can spit Aesop Rock level metaphors at Busta Rhymes speed off straight off the dome and literally everything you say is completely new without constantly repeating themes, with absolutely no weak lines that could be outdone by anyone, and you put out that same quality in every record being at least annual with your releases, you can't claim to be the best rapper ever. Some rappers are rapid, others are metaphorical, others are punchliners, others are storytellers, and others are anthem makers. no one is the best at all of that.

    Eminem is at the level of Nas, Rakim, Big L, Pun, etc. in lyricism. Of course you can't say he's the greatest. But surely one of the greatest. R.A. is good, great but not near to Em. All these bandwagon haters hate him just cause he's mainstream and white they hate him.

    • @loganleatherman7647
      @loganleatherman7647 5 лет назад +4

      @@frshgeebz The reason Em is famous now is because he was underground, slaughtered enough competitors to work his way up and place second at the '97 Rap Olympics, and got noticed by Dr. Dre because of it. Yes, He got big because he had skills unlike anyone else at the time, what with his lyrical content and delivery. "...nothing deep or clever." I don't think you've listened to as much Eminem as you think you have if you say that. Go listen to the two albums he's released in the last two years. If you can't find anything deep or clever on either, then I don't know what to tell you. The wordplay alone is insane on both Revival and Kamikaze, not to mention the metaphors and double, triple, or quadruple/quintuple entendres.

      You missed his point he wasnt comparing drake to big l. He said if you say a rapper is better than another because of record sales that'd be like saying drake is a better rapper than big l. Meaning he's saying big l is leagues better than drake. Drake just has more album sales. That's what he was basing all those comparisons on.

    Listen to the man when he spits his lyrics. That's realest shit right there & that's what make MCs the best of all time. The Old Eminem (1999-2002) was a nice rapper & this new Eminem sold out. That new album he released was fuckin wack. I can't understanding what the fuck he is rapping about. Don't get me wrong his word play & flow is phenomenal when he spits but his just lacking good quality in his lyrics. R.A. the Rugged Man is right & speaking the truth right here.

    RA the Rugged Man vs Eminem would be outstanding shit!!! Both are very incredible lyricists. Eminem is obviously far more successful (in the popular matrix that is/success is very relative) and known. But I put nothing past RA. And how can you put anything past someone like Eminem who has done every and anything there was to do in rap, hip-hop and the music industry in a whole! But RA is absolutely correct... any rapper who doesn't think he is the best, needs to stop rapping(I'm not quoting, I'm phrasing)... pick up a broom or mop or drive a truck or a bus for a living if you ain't inspiring to be the best or at least think you are.
    Rap started from sound boy clashing in the West Indies and Kool Herc brought it to the Bronx in the form of Turntables in the parks... and we have it now... as wack as most of it is or isn't, depending upon your knowledge on the shit.

    Lol its two different styles completely. Eminem may not have the same ol'school vibe he has back in the day, but his lyrics are nothing short from genius. His wordplay, metaphors, and rhyming patterns are off the hook, and there tends to be much more anger in his lyrics too. RA has crazy lyrics, just like in the song Uncommon Valor, but the way he delivers is different, and most of his lyrics are very rhyme oriented. I loved every Em album up to Relapse/Relapse Refill. However even in MMLP2 he still spit some genius shit.
