Sir Diesel-Ducy, the elevators that i like overall is the 30*S one in the Park Place [70 Woodfin Place] and that other one w/ the modern buttons. Yours truly, President Edward Buziness
Gated Otis lift (elevator)! Epic video, Andrew! I live in England UK and my cousins flats in Brighton has an old Waygood-Otis lift with gated doors, even a side door! I believe it is from the 1930s. Also there are other old lifts in Brighton. There is a high rise old Otis although the higher floors are locked off because they are flats above floor 5 and only goes to the car park at the Holiday Inn, 2 Old Waygood-Otis lifts from 1938 at the old Ship Hotel, an old Express lift at Heales (Im not sure if its spelt Heales or Heals). Amazing editing too!
The Maintenance Manager at 70 woodfin place said they have to keep the sub basement button locked because your not supposed to go down there only the regular basement.
like the inside lattice car gate, never seen one like that before, cant see the point of it though, apart from if its on another landing theres a good chance it will come down, has it got a safe edge ?
3:09 the only time I see videos of signs like that on modern elevators are on ones that are tiny and I just find it interesting how jumping willy nilly activates the safety device
Thiago Felipe Navarro looking at the wear on the fixtures I can tell that the floor 1 and floor four buttons have been used a lot over the years as the rest of the buttons have almost no wear... people must have really needed to go to the top and main floor a lot
+WestCoast Elevators The interlock might be built into the gate if you notice there is an arm that moves when the gate is opening and closing maybe the part at the end of the arm is the interlock.
+WestCoast Elevators Most gated elevators like this do not have an interlock but rather a device that looks like an interlock that completes a circuit when the door is closed allowing the elevator to move. This works like an interlock so that if you pull open the gate the elevator stops. Theoretically though you should be able to push on the device and complete the circuit allowing the elevator to move with the gate open, never tried it though.
+O Town Elevators I would think that the gate bouncing open briefly as the elevator starts to move would cause any safety device that may exist to halt the elevator, at least momentarily.
+WestCoast Elevators Not always because the gate only has to be inside of the device for the elevator to move so when the gate bounces open a little it can still be completing the circuit.
+O Town Elevators I guess depending on where the device is located the gate could still complete the circuit even open a bit, but it opens awfully far at 1:20.
Nice!! A couple beautiful Otis classics still running like new!! By the way, I kinda think the buzzing on the first elevator would be either a solenoid or possibly a motor contactor if a modification had been made. Either way, thanks for sharing these... gorgeous!!!
Very nice elevators, but with its ups and downs:1st elevator=Original classic antique fixtures and nice cab/machine, but the downside is the drop ceiling. 2nd elevator=Original, nice cab and machine, but 1 button is missing.
+Ross Craig-Browne There would not be a car door interlock most likely, there would be a gate switch that would detect that the gate is closed. I guess the gate doesn't bounce open far enough for the elevator to detect it.
*When you're so obsessed with elevators that you walk into random buildings for the sole purpose of hogging the elevator for five minutes going up and down, up and down.*
I have seen people trapped in this elevator..between floors. They must have moved too much! Fire dept had trouble getting them out...had to wait for the owner to bring the key:)

These kind of elevators never fails to entertain us
I know right?
1:37 cool moter
Why is the doors closing early when it gose up?
Not sure.
Considering I'll be close to Asheville soon, I'll definitely be checking these out!

Pretty much!
I love the automatic inner gate. It’s vintage, with a touch of modern
It is amazing.

This comment is so true.
EPIC Elevators y'all with EPIC MOTOR Y'ALL on the first elevator but on the second elevator I loved the classic leveling
To think the 1930s elevator will turn 100 soon...
Yeah in 2030s
i love how the doors close good how can it work? 1:19
Ok
I have been to Taipei 101 , 1 or 2 weeks ago and my gosh , the elevator was lightning fast!!
I like the background music in the beginning. Anyone the name of the background music?
Very very nostalgic memory here.
The Maintenance Manager at 70 woodfin place said they have to keep the sub basement button locked because your not supposed to go down there only the regular basement.
Cool. I wonder if this elevator is bottom drive.
THANKS FOR THAT VIDEO THIS IS SO EPIC THANK YOU 😊
Got a new video here

+Tony Baines or a car gate switch, it bounced a lot.
“Semi Automatic elevator” they had to remind people that you’re going to be waiting forever lol.
Is the sub-basement working in the elevator
it is locked.
How do you access the Sub-Basement in this elevator since it's locked?
That is the most important thing I've ever seen in the building
3:09 the only time I see videos of signs like that on modern elevators are on ones that are tiny and I just find it interesting how jumping willy nilly activates the safety device
I love the sound of the door motor! 😂

Wouldnt that gate bouncing like that break safety?
DieselDucy: don't slam the door
The elevator:
*Metal screech death noises*

Lol
Why does the door say open door yours
It is a manual door.
Soo missed these tours
More are coming!
Was there another elevator only on that side of the building and not the other side?

Does this not have an interlock for the gate? Absolutely amazing motor and elevator in general!

What is the sub basement?
It is a second basement
now this is an elevator. I like how the doors are manual ly opened and the gate is auto opened
or lift
SytRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
The old one looks like the elevator out of Big Bang Theory
Are you guys riding in an elevator? That’s awesome i love you guys so much keep up the good work have a good night peace out
So the first elevator I guess is original and the second one was an addition?
That is what I would guess.
@@DieselDucy
The building is from 1932 so the second elevator was definitely added later
Nice!! A couple beautiful Otis classics still running like new!! By the way, I kinda think the buzzing on the first elevator would be either a solenoid or possibly a motor contactor if a modification had been made. Either way, thanks for sharing these... gorgeous!!!
The buzzing is actually the relay that puts full power to the old AC motor
ElevatorMan5482 ElevExperiencing Productions That's what a contactor is...
Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It is NOT the motor. I think it may be bottom drive.
Which one you pick
Very nice elevators, but with its ups and downs:1st elevator=Original classic antique fixtures and nice cab/machine, but the downside is the drop ceiling.
2nd elevator=Original, nice cab and machine, but 1 button is missing.
Wow you have a great experience
Yes, thank you
Loved the intro
thanks!
Very interesting elevator with nice black buttons
I love it
I love your videos Andrew
0:42 What was that?
This was a very interesting place. There is a lot history around us. These elevators seems to work very well.
I love these elvators :)
You are right there are two electors in here, it looks like a hospital🤗
It was at one point.
you would think the gate bouncing like that would effect the interlock... assuming it has one
+Ross Craig-Browne
There would not be a car door interlock most likely, there would be a gate switch that would detect that the gate is closed. I guess the gate doesn't bounce open far enough for the elevator to detect it.
Wow! I love the camera recording this video! What is it? The camera must have a VERY high rez capability!

Well in the beginning at 0:41 it glitched
4 = Fourth floor
3 = Third floor
2 = Second floor
1 = First floor
B = Basement
SB = Sub-basement (Locked off)
Very similar to a Payne (2nd one, looks like Elevator C). Makes me wonder if this cab is a generic of it's day.
What's down in Sub Basement?
I don't know. Wish i could have gone down there.
Nice elevator!
*When you're so obsessed with elevators that you walk into random buildings for the sole purpose of hogging the elevator for five minutes going up and down, up and down.*

1:15 sub basement is locked off
5:50 roof is locked off
correct.
except for the slamming door its fantastic. does it actually have sub basement? second elevator is a piece of history.
Why is South Basement and Roof is locked?
SB stands, in this case, for Sub Basement
Ty e motor is FANTASTIC
Thanks!
These 1930s and 1940s Otises are quite nice
Agreed
Is OTIS the oldest elevator company?
they're the ones who created the first safety device that keeps the cab from falling down the shaft
JR Jackson yes and Otis created the first elevator ever by the way Otis was a person

Why you can't slam the door?
Love those elevators
Me too
Beautiful old Otis elevators
0:57 here it is turn on the light (Asmr) I love the sound when you opened the door
Thanks 🙏
Epic motor sounds on the first one but on the automatic one you cant really hear it all that much oh well
These elevators used to have this in my old building
What is the music called
Hydraulic?
Love the 1930 fixtures
Recent sub to your channel here. I remember riding one of these when these when I was a kid and thinking it was really neat. Thanks for showing!
Awesome! !!
THIS MOTER IS EPIC
Love that DC motor
Which s granite is
Does the motor sound like a hair cut tool?
Nice rock music at the beginning
That’s weird how a 1930s one works perfectly and a 2004 one is very temprimental
Because workmanship is GONE!.
Stuff was built SO much better back then.
do a machine room tour of the both elavators
Wow! that is very old elevator!!
Music ?
off epidemic sound.
How was it a hospital
How scary. I imagine those apartments are all haunted
Epic
Thanks so much.
Or a buzzing sound?

You didn't put elevators in the description, as in plural, you put it as singular
ok.
so if this was posted in 2015 that means that elevator is around 80 years old
