Mushoku Tensei is the best new anime of 2021, and the novel inspired most isekai we love & enjoy. Rudeus Greyrat is the topic of a lot of controversy due to his immoral acts, yet Mushoku Tensei remains one of the highest rated anime of 2021 because its adaptation is one of the greatest of all time.

The reason why it's perfectly fine to like characters like Echidna even though they've committed unspeakable atrocities while hating characters like Rudeus because he has flaws that he needs to overcome and triumph over is because:

"Everyone" hated on Subaru at the begining to (I diden't cuz I thought that was inentional in you know giving him a redeemption) for some reason because of how much he whined etc. Meanwhile im just mf his internal organs are being opened up by the second as a crazy woman is saying "slowy, slowly, slowly...".
I've always been more of a fan of characters with flaws like Rudeus and Subaru in storytelling. This is because it's a lot more satisfying compared to *"oh im super powerfull and all chicks like me even though I have the personality of a brick".*
Similar hate happened to Eren as well because of how he treated Mikasa, whined so much and was angry as well which I mean... wasn't that the whole point? Given now more are realizing that as they watch the later seasons but common all of my fav animes seem to be completly shit on by people who don't even understand why their critsizing the behaviours that are intentional for future development. People out her thinking if you ain't born perfect in treating whamen, children, being a stoic etc. then that makes the whole anime stupid.
also for some reason sexual assault has an oddly un proportional sensetivity to viewers as compared to other more widespread and heinous depictions of evil. I've been thinking about that. people will watch saw and laugh or they'll read accounts of war prisons and see it as for what it is. a raw look into the reality and potential of humans. but depicting sexual violence hits an odd personal spot maybe?|

@famous dev To be fair, i do fall in that category of being able to watch brutal killings (in movies and such) etc. and not wince but had a hard time watching some of the scenes in 1st part of the seasons here. BUT that doesn't prevent me from being objective and reasonable. Never "hated" Rudeus and never ignored all the massive good that he does. And you can't call anything he has done "sexual violence" to begin with.
Ultimately, he's a pretty great dude, with issues. Who tries his best. That's what the whole thing is about.
Even the whole "redemption" talk is overblown. It's done for "redemption". And certainly not for viewers to "forgive" him (lmao self righteous much?).
As what i consider good storytelling, it simply wants to tell a story, it's not focused on doing things specifically for (certain) viewers.
Unless something goes terribly awry, Mushoku Tensei is on the path to becoming a classic and one of the best anime of the coming decade.
Ya about that after chapter 60 of manga it goes from being the best Isekai to literally Isekai Cheat Magician. But I heard that LN is better but really turned me off when something that was going so good goes from 10/10 to 1/10 real quick.

@@dimensionalblade2778 I found the school arc to be quite nice in the LN. Haven't tried the manga, so I can't speak on the quality of that one. I thoroughly enjoyed the LN / web novel all the way to the very end.

The fact that jobless reincarnation cut so many scene and remade scenes different from LN/Manga and yet been so good, says alot about how there's no excuse for promise neverland s2 to be so bad.

I love mushoku tensei (shocker)
And the nods that the animators are giving to novel readers this season have been amazing. It was so much fun to see all of the communities blowing up over the subtle nudges the anime is giving.
I really hope mt gets the full adaptation because some of the fights coming in the series will be absolutely stunning if the animation budget keeps up. (I’m looking at you volume 15)

I feel the same way. The adaptation of Mushoku Tensei is top tier but everyone I've seen on, for example, Myanimelist, just criticize Rudeus, give it a 2 and don't talk about anything else the series has. Also, amazing video, as always. Your humor is just perfect and always gets a laugh out of me. Your humor also reminds me a lot of Gigguk which makes sense cause you two are by far my favorite anitubers. Keep doing what you're doing and I'll continue watching!

As someone who has just started reading the light novels, I now understand what everyone meant by the Eris scene from volume six. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk
I wanted to buy the lightnovel but I heard something about the translation having cut some parts from the story. So I read the wiki and saw it mention the Eris scene in volume 6.
I think we can hope for volume 6 to be covered in the anime, as lightnovels normally get 3 volumes for 1 anime season.
So 2 seasons = 6 volumes.
I have seen a few where it was only 2 volumes for a season. I don't know how many volumes got covered in season 1, but I can hope for 3 volumes there and 3 volumes now.

I would probably have to break the packaging to check the pages to see if the contents are from the revised or the old. But if I break the packaging, then the book would be "used" so I would need to find a store that allows returns of used products / opened packaging.
I could also just ask a clerk / store person if I can check / if it is the correct and if I can open and check.

I hate Seven Seas Entertainment, so I don't know if I actually wanna buy their product. I will have to wait till I see a copy of the books in person. If they are of decent quality (paper, layout, printing, inking etc) then maybe I would buy it.
So I will find a store one day when I got more money and time to check it out.
People hate Rudeus, yet praise that Ainz is justice, see Bondrewd as a good dad, and love other objectively evil characters who if they met irl, would skin them alive, kill them, eat them, rape them, force into slavery, etc, but Rudeus is apparently just the worst.

The sheer quality of the animation is so good that i sometimes rewind the episode to watch a scene again to fully appreciate what's presented to me
One thing i really love about mushoku tensei is that it feels like time passes. It feels like you actually get to see a persons life go by and change. Rather than 10 years later 20 years later with instant time skips with little or no detail about it. We saw rudues and eris grow physically and mentally. We saw events happening in the background while these 2 are gone not just yeah everything was just the same as you guys have left.
Yeah, the relatively frequent but smaller time skips work very well. And make sense.

And the fact the world is still spinning, things are still happening, while the mc is out, is what i love.
Every character has a story and objetives that dont revolve around Rudeus.
And this is why the epilogue will hit most people like a truck...

Simple. *It's because people are too detached with extreme torture cases IRL but have seen pedophilia more often.*
Now, does that make Rudeus okay? No. But it would be hypocritical for those who gave others who did as bad or worse a pass; regardless if they look cooler/better/whatever when they did it.
Echidnut is right in saying people who blame the anime because of Rudeus for being what he is, instead of how he's written "has low digit IQ". It's intentional, just like traditional folklore which made their audience hate the villains. *It's not supposed to be okay, and it's designed for you to hate or dislike him until Rudeus redeems himself.*
It's exactly this. People have a stronger connection to character flaws that are directly connected to sexual behavior, and that makes it feel worse to look at for most people.
On the other side of this, you might find psychopaths to be intriguing to look into how and why they ended up like that, so you won't find it disgusting at all, and will rather look at it in a "positive" way

Heck, this is even made a bit more clear on the later chapters; where Rudeus starts to remind himself that "this is no time to be a pervert", grows out of it little by little, to the point where he's as close of a pervert as Paul is (if not less).
Check his interactions with Hitogami again. This is one of Rudeus' remnant from his old self that he himself dislikes. His character grew out from just seeing the girls of the new world as "just sexy anime stereotypes" to genuinely appreciating them as people.
The last few episodes of this or the next season will make this much more clear for those who didn't get it & still blame Rudeus for "making the whole show bad".
I don't know if I'm the only one here, but I never saw Rudeus as a bad human, pedophile or whatever. He died at trying to save someone. When he was 'reborn' it wasn't a 30 year old man in the body of a baby, but rather a baby with the memories of 30 years. It was a second chance to live his life AGAIN from the start and to make everything better. Like turning the time back to when you were a baby and doing everything different, just without time travel, but instead born into another world.
I love this idea of him getting to live his life again, but this time with experience that he didnt have. But seeing him as a 30 years old man, just shatters this idea, because looking it from that perspective would make you want that he tells his parents and all people around him, that he is an actual 30 years old man from another world. But that is not what it's supposed to be. It's a second time of living your life again. And not a first time of being in the body of a baby.
And the fact that he is gonna drop his perversity and become a more self controlled man (I didnt read the LN or the manga, but thats what I got from reading the comments atleast. And no I dont wanna any spoilers or hints, thanks) is just him turning from a normal human to a better human.

@@percyjackson3311 So, MT's has went on record that he was inspired by the Rance series, and off the top of my head, I would say that Shield Hero was definitely inspired by it as well, though arguably anything that uses Level/Skill mechanics as actual mechanic in the world, Hero vs Demon King as actual orchestrated/designated roles, and a general "the world is a game made by the Gods," to owe inspiration from Rance series.
The series is old, older than Linux kernel, and it ran for 20 years (if you count Little Princess) until 2018 with Rance X, the final game in the series (although Evenicle is poised to be a successor to it). Unlike FF and DQ, it has a continuous story, referencing and building off previous games. It's closer to Ys in that regards, but personal stats aside, Rance's progress as a person, 'hero', and accidental world leader carries over each games.
Rance himself is rather weird. He is a full-blown Rapist, much like many 90s H-game MCs. Picture Rudeus, but where Rudeus peaks and gropes, Rance would just laughed, pulled the panties, and slide in his Hyper Weapon while a rock remix to the East Germany Anthem plays in the background.
Except he's written by a woman (at least during his 'worst' years, before he got to the point where it no longer make sense for him to have sex with random women), you clearly feels that he lacks malice as much as he is just an autistic child (there's a Priestess who kills anyone she had sex with through their sins/soul pollution - Rance doesn't die because he genuinely couldn't comprehend that what he's doing was at all wrong), and he has weird hobbies like collecting seashells (which gives him 3x higher Satisfaction stat than sex), reading Shoujo manga (despite being allergic to genuine affection and romance), and surprisingly good with kids (even if he genuinely thought tossing your son off of a cliff is a natural thing to do to toughen them up).
Rance series is an H-game parody of JRPG and H-game tropes written by a bunch of weirdos who are also historical nerds. And aren't shy about depicting brutal act of violence and sex. This is why you can have a fail-state each games, where if you fail too hard then horrible mind-breaking rape can happen... and the game continues, sans that character. To put into perspective, when you die, you go to hell, as part of the world's system which is meant to creat as much conflict, pain, and suffering because that's what amuses the Creator God... who is also a Giant White Whale floating in space.
Simply put, it's basically the JoJo of H-games, and you can basically thank it for being one of the earliest LitRPG type stories where stats and the like is a tangible part of the world, that people talk about. Most of its games dominated the Erogamescape (the JP equivalent to vndb, a database for eroge) charts with Rance X being the top ranked game of the site. There's a story that there used to be a magazine that ranked Top Eroge Main Characters that had to be changed to Top Eroge Heroines because Rance would just keep topping the charts.
Arguably, it's one of the most influential JP work since DQ, and it's only recently got an official English release due to the cautious nature of the devs (since they were there during the RapeLay era, so they even blocked non-JP IP Address from their WWII parody game's site). I'd recommend starting from either Sengoku Rance (which is a bonafide excellent Yabou-style strategy game of its own) or Rance 01 if anyone's interested, and I think it's worth at least some reading as there are some truly great stuff in there. At the very least, it'll get you to see where a lot of the isekai owes its other world depictions from.
but a tl;dr is that Rance series was stated as an inspiration for MT by the author himself, it has a rich history that you can see where it come from and how it influenced many things, and the MC is actually worse than Rudeus, often brought up as the main complaint of the people who enjoys the world, general story, and other characters but couldn't stand Rance as a character.
It's just same old same old for us Rance fans, but to us Rudeus is outright tame in comparison to its inspiration. And at least he doesn't take 10 games to fully develop as a character, and used to be worse before the creator remake'd the old games to be more in-line with the later lore and characterization (which means Rance is less bad than he used to be in the original versions - most prominently in Rance 03 vs Rance III).
Bro, the web novel shifting from slice of life to dark fantasy from one volume to another gave me emotional whiplash. Seeing the characters live their best lives surrounded by friends and family then they are called on another adventure, this time with even high stakes, only thing going through my head was "please be ok. please no one die. please come back safely. You have sooo much you could lose... so easily."
This juxtaposition really makes you invested in the naration and elevates what on paper might be a mid tier story to an epic journey. I love the characters so much and hate the antagonists with a passion, but... they really aren't that different... there are scumbags on both sides of the story, everyone just want to survive and thrive. But because the naration is from Rudeus' perspective it's normal that I'm going to take Rudeus' side, even if I don't agree with everything he does, he genuinely cares about his friends and would risk it all for them like he lost his life trying to save three strangers from being hit by a truck.
I honestly cried when the both the main antagonist died, they were my fav characters

Meh, he's still a dirtbag. Shouldn't be any regrets for killing him. As they were trying to kill them, and almost succeeded. If you really want to compare them, he'd be a greatly crappier version of Rudeus. Lacking the development too. Though it's not hard to understand why he did what he did and took that side, it doesn't make it all good. It's a shallow reason, understandable or not.
It is what it is, but i don't really have sympathy for him.

It does an amazing job showing just how close to death they always are in fights, like Rudeus doesn't have amazing combat instincts and one hit by an experienced fighter and he would be dead, and Rudeus also mentions at one point that his stone cannon shots could very easily kill a normal person if he didn't control it well.
It really is that good, highly immersive with the fake language, stuff always happens in the background, animation and artstyle is slick, Rudeus is Chad and Kishirika is best waifu
btw is it safe to assume we will keep getting new MT seasons (until the source material runs out obviously) since this studio was made for Mushoku Tensei.

Honestly I agree with MT as number 1. Started reading Mushoku Tensei (currently on 3) and his internal dialogue is hilarious, whenever I read the light novels I constantly burst out laughing. The world building and characters are phenomenal and I am so glad I started reading it, cant wait to get into the later volumes.

From reading the LN I always thought of Rudeus as someone with a fucked up sense of humor and a fundamental lack of human understanding rather than an actual bad person. That's not to say I condoned any of his actions but in the anime he comes across as a worse person to me.

mushoku, tensura, and re:zero top 3 of this year
I just finished Volume 11 of the web novel (haven't started the light novels yet) and one reason I appreciate the anime adaptation so much is because seeing everything visually makes the world seem so much larger. The web novel was a little disorienting because the time skips during the characters' travels made the world feel smaller than it was supposed to be. I got the same feeling whenever Rudeus would just "happen" to run into an acquaintance of his parents or Roxy, but I can forgive that as an affect of his parents being adventurers, Roxy being famous, and Hitogami pulling Rudeus' strings.
Well, just how long it takes them to go from 1 place to another gives a sense of size. Travelling in the world is no joke and seriously considered when you have to go somewhere. As it may take years to go somewhere and come back. Which creates many potential issues. It's really good this is not overlooked.
(Of course that issues is greatly lessened later with teleportation circles)
My first reaction to mushoku tensei was WOW. Thanks to the stunning animation, the beautiful music, the world building (Especially the world building, it functions like a real breathing world) and the MC who think and act like a real person (i don't talk about his questionable tastes). For me this is anime of the year

I remember watching the first episode of this series a while back and immediately noticed how good and fast I became so interested. And now, it is currently sitting in my top 2 of all time after reading the WN. Mushoku tensei was also my first ever novel that I have ever completed and I enjoyed it just as much as the anime. Though there can be some slow parts (looking at you vol 8-12) it was all just part of a buildup that made the series even more better. I even found myself rereading some parts of the novels (pretty much all the turning points, especially turning point 4) to try and relive the very first time reading it. Mushoku tensei deserves anime of the year no doubt about it.
Ruijerd: *A Cool Bald Guy, basically a Komi San according to Rudeus but very strong.*
Echidna: *An Imperfect Goddess like being, makes best yet rarest Tea in the world, potential material for free plot and knowing more plot through her.*
I think those people weren’t criticizing Rudius’s decision but more to the actual author of this story for putting a pervy scene into the show
However, I feel like most of them aren’t unnecessary sexual scenes. Like Paul and Zenith’s sex scene is there to build up plots with Paul and Lilia to show how scum Paul can be.
Personally, I like how the characters aren’t just a flawless family living happily in a peaceful village type. This might sound wrong but Lust is what drives a lot of characters to make decisions, even in real life, especially in this show’s time period. When you have a mega virgin beta protagonist with a clueless mind, it just makes the show unbearable to watch.
Stuff like this add realism to the narrative which makes this show very immersive.

Same for the Roxy scene, she became an adventurer to find love but failed miserably. She's kinda insecure about herself. From her perspective, Paul and Zenith are the perfect loving adventurer couple that Roxy wanted to be. So she's jealous of them and touches herself outside their door
I just like how sex is part of the world. Most realistic family in an anime. It does not focus on it, but it shows that it is a part of life. Even the unseemly side of sex. And yes Paul is scum. If my wife and I were that loud, I think we would have had to go to a hotel after the first kid.

Just completed the Web Novel . Let me tell you one thing . Its going to be extremely difficult to find another one like Mushoku Tensei . A series with a complete package . Love, romance, action , drama , adventure , plot thicker than all the thigs in the world , and a sense of satisfaction after reading the ending . And as far as I think this is just the middle point of the Storyline . This entire series is like in b/w the story line . After the Demon human war , dargon tribe and before the Fight with the main boss(I think you can pretty much guess who is the final boss) .Truely what a ride .

@@prashantmishra676 Actually the plot is far from the biggest strength of Re:Zero as well. For both MT and Re:zero the plot is good, but not the main focus.
As 86 taught us the Majority can be wrong, and they commonly are. Dont get me wrong I love Mushoku Tensei and from pure art stand point it is better then my Pick. I enjoyed watching both greatly but 86 had me thinking about it and wanting more of the show and world then Mushoku Tensei did. Like read through the first 4 light novels in a weekend kind of needed more, and I got two kids and job do you know how much neglect had to go into that. I will still be watching both but Lena is my Queen and I am ok with that.
Nah, that’s a perfectly valid pick. I actually think 86 has even better visual storytelling than MT.
@@sasy11110 100% agree from reading the light novels the Anime does a great job of filling in how everyone feels with body language (helpful when we don't get the inter thoughts and feeling text). Plus all the small details about the world. But from a pure Let me take any random screen shot Mushoku Tensei has it better from the pure pretty standpoint.
Yeah if you consider only the two seasons 86 is definitely better cause main mushoku hasn't even started yet. People are biased towards mushoku cause the novel is just fking phenomenal. At the same time the novel of 86 isn't over yet. It might become more amazing depending upon how it ends.
@@portgas.d.shanks1810 Dude you put my feeling on paper I never even knew I had. This all day. Just compare 86 first 11 episodes with Mushoku tensei first 11 it is no contest, 86 wins. I think that is because it was designed to be a complete story and Lena had a full arc already (Since LN was originally a one shot). Mushoku Tensei is getting praise for being great as it should but also there is hype around what is to come next that is giving it the edge up for most people.

Ayye me too! I was kinda sad to see that so many people hate it or hate the MC. I love The Magicians, but it did start to fall flat in the later seasons and it even got a little preachy and overtly political at times. I really think The Magicians has some really interesting world building and characters. Personally I love the whole cast and Elliot especially.

The most interesting thing about Mushoku for me in history is that more than twenty years will pass, I've never seen another anime that does the same, that was the difference of this anime.
My son has started watching the original Naruto series and I feel so nostalgic when I see little Naruto and the gang that I used to watch so many years ago.
Yeah that's one of my favorite points in the history. One of my favorite scenes It is on redundancy when they leave Millis, the description in reference to the first time that Rudeus had seen Millis "more than 20 years ago", that one made me cry and i don't know why

I do wonder why MT can get me somewhat emotional, to the point of shedding a tear or 2. Nothing else has in forever. Not generally emotional either. Like the ending, where he is old and dying. I can't say it's a sad ending. Still, it felt pretty sad about it and got to me. Mentioned Eris has already died too. The dialogues and imagining the perspective of the other characters like Roxy and Sylphie who still have a lot of years left.
I get the craving like "I wish he had more time to spend with everyone" - lowkey feels bad. Should at least made it 84 years old. I would have felt a little bit better.
Again, it's not a bad end or a bad death. With all his loving family there as he passes. Everything he dreamed of having. The opposite of his previous life. How can you ask for more. And yet... i can't feel good about it. Even now, i'd rather not think about it much haha
@@HiddenStr3ngth mushoku tensei perfectly captures the feeling of life. It's what i want in my favorite stories more than any other. Hyouka, Horimiya, Violet Evergarden, k-on. A good portrayal of life gets me heavily invested in the characters more than anything else.
Check out Kemono no Souja Erin. It's another slow fantasy story where the character start very young and age over story, with plenty of tragedy and wholesome moments.

They judge the anime all base on him, not about the other things that's good in this Anime.

I think you really hit the nail on the head here. Mushoku Tensei went from being a story I thought was weird, to being my favorite Light Novels series, and soon to be favorite anime probably (monogatari is quite difficult to dethrone though). Every aspect of the series just screams amazingness and I also can only find people who’s only criticism of the media is Rudy, meanwhile the story is literally about him growing as a person and developing. It’s frustrating to talk to those people as they can only argue with what they’ve been given in the anime and can’t see the story for what it will eventually become, and how Rudy will develop as a character. Great analysis. As a web novel reader also I am super excited for the future of the anime and really hope studio bind keeps doing it justice.

Don’t diss Citrus it was a literary masterpiece and the anime was work of art for uhhh studying how ummm things.
For a lots of reasons including the world building, the character focuses and development, narrative point of view the social anxiety and other emotional feelings of both MC's past & present I give this anime a 9.6/10........... assuming that the story is still in its first setting arc
And also if it gets going better I'll probably give it more than a 10 and also for obvious reasons it's one of the anime of the year (among new animes) along side Tokyo, vivy, to yr eternity, 86 & a few others

Thank you for putting into words my feelings of Mushoku Tensei. To me it was always about redemption and it got me thinking about my own flaws, we only have one life here so tomorrow is the only Isekai you'll experience. Make those changes.
Some people hate Rudeus so that they have a feeling of superiority of "hey, I condemn him, so I'm good, right?" or "once a no-good person is always a no-good person". That feeling of superior righteousness.

I watched the show two parts in one day and i was blown away by this show, apart from some unnecessary parts like Roxy figure having detachable issues that's doesn't serve anything and typical logical inconsistencies like him selling a Stagg that eris gave him with love instead of let's say using his magic to sell figurines, or maybe help with water providing in the city with his magic etc etc I loved this show, my fav will be rezero as well but this one had an impact on me that I like, the protagonist is fixing himself realistically, also the villian introduction in North was the most terrific I've seen, i knew right then that this anime is gonna get big, like bro that guy sent chills as soon as he asked about man God

What really good about Mushoku Tensei is not that fan service, but the world building. Totally difference compared to other isekai.
Especially the "redemption" arc is really important not only in the developmment of Rudeus, but also of other characters and the story. This redemption is something that is really emphazised in this series and I like it, for instnace, in the latest episode Rudeus finds out the past of Ghislaine and how her character developed thanks to him.

Can't agree enough. There's a reason most Anime's opt for the Oblivious Protagonist rather than a lustful one, and it's to avoid the dog-pile from those keen to show how virtuous they are.
Also, I've been reading a few LN's and these are a Tier above everything else., compare it to 'The Beginning after the end' where you get the MC going from OP to OP whilst he might as well be singing 'Everything is Awesome'.
With regards to TBATE, I feel like the people that despise Rudeus are the ones that choose TBATE over MT. For them it's the perfect copy of MT without the parts that make them uncomfortable. Just a well crafted OP slaughterfest without any meaning to it. It's sad but undestandable

Too many good anime this year. Stuck between MT, 86, and Vivy. 86 is my personal favorite but I’m biased as hell because I read into the LN and my favorite part hasn’t been animated yet, but it will be before the season is over.

cringe but im here, the person who predicts anime, I agree with "not a single flaw", im also looking, frame by frame, and guess what? every art still makes sense, the anatomy, mechanics, and perspective is beyond comparison to mine, my masterpiece can easily be beaten with one frame, and im, not even exaggerating, well I did see some bad frames, but I could only notice 1 or none per episode. As of now im still looking for some "flaws" and hints of future flaws. This is my first time not seeing one mistake, and being over 100% satisfied (i watch over 200+ anime with over 70 days of watch time). also one of the best things this anime has ever done... is to show that the character is getting older, per episode. I have predicted that this'll get beyond 4 seasons, and im expecting that season 3 will reach plus ultra. I also realized a lot of "cut content", too bad it's not considered as a flaw cause it's a needed thing to make the adaptation better.
