Pretty sure imaginary numbers have application in electrical engineering.
Without them, there would be no radar, no computers, no electrical grid. If quantum computers and networks ever become useful, you'll need sqrt(i) for those too. There's also quaternions which are great for describing angles.

Not gonna lie, I'm a Computer Engineering stundent and I still don't know shi about the imaginary number and why they add it there
It's because there is no real number that is the result of square root of -1.
Multiplying two negatives make a positive and we obviously can't use two different numbers, but something has to solve it.
We don't have a real number for it so we use the imaginary number and scale it as needed. Graphically it can show an abnormal rate of growth. Numerically it's more like a placeholder

Negative numbers in that they exist in theory but not in real life, so really, negative numbers are just as imaginary as imaginary numbers. Essentially they exist on another number line that runs perpendicular to the real number line. They have a bunch of uses in fields like physics and whatnot but idk what those uses are, I just heard that.
Edit: apparently one of their uses is in the Schrödinger equation which is pretty important for quantum physics.

basically, we have positive numbers and negative numbers, and it is said that 'i' is "half-negative" one, in a sense, such that multiplying i by i equals -1, like how two negatives make a positive. drawn out in a plane, it gives an idea of multiplication causing rotational symmetry, in a sense.
the creation of imaginary numbers implement the 'complex numbers', the broadest set of numbers. it effectively turns the binary 'positive vs negative' choice into a full spectrum of polarity, and many times, functions that work with real number inputs work with complex numbers too. this is the purpose of the field of complex analysis, which extends from real analysis.
