I’m now 43, my mam n dad used to take us kids to the red lion every year, the “mace” site shop, the diner, o,briens amusement arcade,..outta the site, under the bridge to the 2nd set of amusements, Kerr’s miniature railway and mini buses etc!! Then upto Bally’s, Pleasureland, the tooties neuk, cargills big outdoor/ indoor cafe, The Ship Inn, plenty o wee toy shops, cafes and tourist hot spots,... smokies, etc, etc!! Last time I was there was 84/85 bout 8 years old....great daze indeed...RIP Mum n Dad, miss you’s tons, xx!!!!
All the cars would be classic cars now. In 1982 , I was 17 years old , living near Coventry. I was a punk , but the styles you see here remind me of those times. The two lads in green bomber jackets are probably scooterists. Now I live in Arbroath, I love it here, but the High Street isn't as busy now. Some shops are closed , some people get there stuff delivered to their door, no need to leave the house 😢 I pray for better times , that people would come to know that Jesus is Lord, the Crucified Risen Messiah May Scotland see a mighty Christian revival, we need one !! ❤️✝️🙏
Great, i used to summer holiday at "The Red Lion" caravan park every year as a lad!,,up till bout 1986/87,...Pleasureland, The Tooties Neuk, Gayfield etc, etc! And of course the old o'brien's amusement arcade on the caravan park, along side "mace" park wee shop, nightclub then there was "The Diner",...ahhh, fond, fond memories!! Then the Arbroath "Smokie"Cargills outdoor/indoor cafe!! Sadly a lot of this gone noo, amusement arcade, mace wee shop N Diner razed to the grund!! Pity!!! Anyone else readin this with same memories PLEASE send a wee message,..greatly appreciated indeed man!
Not much has changed except for the traffic layout. The real changes came in the previous decade with the building of a carriageway through the middle of the town. Would love to see a vid of the same areas from mid 60s to compare with this one.
Brilliant video. Sadly, I guess many of the faces are no longer with us, but wouldn't it be great to see a recreation of the scenes with the bikers at 0:16-0:20, the Bananarama wanabees at 1:21-1:26, and the "bunch of bairns" at the end of the video, as they are today thirty-odd years later?
Just a regular goings on in the day it was filmed, by most probably just some guy....now I think of historical value, I remember Arbroath like that when I was a kid. Most people will notice how people used to shop and the hustle and bustle etc, it just goes to show how evident the death of the High St is as most High Street's are no longer like that even on Saturday.
I grew up in Arbroath and it’s sad watching this knowing how Arbroath is now streets are completely empty now and nobody wants to come here anymore all because the harbour got shut down which brought in money for the town
Aaaahh
The good old days.
Never to come back never to be repeated.😢

It looks strange seeing it all so busy, the town used to be so nice. Now no one wants to live here :(
@Finanz Ferdinand yeah :(
