I've heard a lot of people saying The Matrix is overrated because despite covering a wide range of deep subjects, it really only scratched the surfaced of it. That's the point silly, it's a movie, not a textbook. It is merely a door, you choose whether to walk through it. And the themes are so diverse its bound to open different areas to think about for different people. I was 11 when I saw it, and in many ways it taught me to be inquisitive and have an open mind.
And of course there is the fact that it is a brilliant action movie.
I've never heard anyone saying it's overrated. Actually is used in Universities a lot. In the philosophy department
I actually know a guy who does. My own dad. I actually think the movie make him uneasy on an existential level. The metaphor is just a little too profound.
Zenzi Sage i remember watching the movie like around the same age. and It didint make sense to me besides the cool effects. defeentely not a kids movie. too deep to comprehend at that age.
Matrix will stand a test of time. Same can't be said about all of the contemporary blockbusters.
Zenzi Sage - In 1999, I was 38. I'm not a movie goer or film buff and hadn't heard of it (The Matrix) 'til after the entire Matrix franchise was on DVD, it was it suggested to me to watch, I became a huge fan, I have yet to see what we used to call "Humanities" so well represented it popular film.
Keanu Reeves ends this brilliant presentation, "It was truth ... What truth?" This is a rare man. This is a rare celebrity. My view is that Mr. Reeves knows more "real truth" than most men and most celebrities. He demonstrates that in how he lives his life as a man and as a celebrity. He is the man and the celebrity with a hidden genius. He is a man and a celebrity who follows his destiny wherever it takes him. Some day, I hope Mr. Reeves will reveal to us "[w]hat truth" was in the film and in his life that causes him to be the marvelous human being that he is.

I think what people don't get is that hes a true to life actor, he doesn't play it up, he just reads the lines like he would in RL and reacts to something like he would in RL.
Allegory of the Cave, Simulacra and Simulation, Alice in Wonderland... It's amazing how the Wachowskis took all these philosophical influences and transformed it into the Matrix. I watch it today and I'm still amazed. It's complex. Watch it a couple times, you find something new. It's open to so many different interpretations/hidden meanings/metaphors. Not to mention the choreography, cinematography and casting. Definitely one of my all-time favourite films.

He is the smartest guy in Hollywood... no one is even close... he is an avid reader... they think about him, that he is dump, because he is a big introvert... but when he speaks, like here, you can see, he is a genius...

This is a very accurate speech, which could only have been given by the actor itself, because to act the part, you need to step into the part, and these are all the feelings I felt, at the final point of libration, tears dropped from my eyes as I realized THE TRUTH.
There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.
Seriously, when Keanu says truth, the way he says it, it's like he is telling the stupid audience: "don't you just laugh, you idiots. This is something right here!"

I saw the Matrix on opening day. March 31, 1999. I remember leaving the theater all confused because it made me doubt my own reality and even thought would it be possible I was living inside the Matrix. It was a weird and scary feeling that lasted ten or fifteen minutes. The scariest and most confusing fifteen minutes of my life. It was just a very strange feeling. I really can't explain it. You have to experience it.
It’s called an existential crisis. It is scary. Amazing how impactful some movies, and literature, can be. Hope you’re hyped for the fourth movie!

So back in December I watched it for the first time and I loved it then I watched the rest of the trilogy before Resurrections came out.
As much as I loved it it really like had me thinking

This is the best movie i ever watch , i love the action , the history and the characters , but the PHILOSOPHY INSIDE ... Its just too deep , simple and deep , there are so many things behind the movie , i think that a loot of things in this movie like the scene where neo had to jump from a build to another , shows us a true that is in our inconscient , and if you silenci your mind and think about it you will see that it pure true . I just love this movie !!!! i just love philosophy!!!!
Mr. Reeves is one of the very few actors who've done justice to the martial arts. Toshiro Mifune,.Tatsuya Nakadai and a few other did it. Tatsuya Naka and Akihito Yagi did it in a little movie called Kuro Obi. The choreography of the fight scenes, the blending of believable technique and the outrageous, in his John Wick movies is impeccable. I truly admire his hard work and commitment.
Those who don't rank The Matrix as one of the best movies can't really have understood, I say. No everyone but man, this movies deals with a lot. There's many layers to it.
Fight Club was better more relatable to us.

Did he improvise his speech? Wow, he was so articulate and eloquent! Beyond my ingrained belief that he is quiet, shy and not eloquent.
This is one of those screenplays that could go like a masterpiece or terribly wrong.
Fortunately it went the first way. Great production, OST, acting and special effects.

Ahmed Muhammad Haddad Yeah but the Wachowski's have never been about the money. They refuse to do press for most of their films which helps the film make money and most studios accept that because of The Matrix's ability to make money.
I watched this on LSD n saw a golden aura once he started getting into detail , I was baffled when he suddenly came to a pause and said "...what truth " #ReBoot #UnPlugged

I remember being in school and confused at all the inane criticisms of K in the matrix films and am like, are you watching the same film i am?

@MarkArandjus Yeah, it was definitely interesting to watch this. He really tried to fully understand what he was doing. And he likes the same things about Neo Anderson and the Matrix films that I do.

He's a great actor that's very much underrated, just like his movies.
I still can't believe that none of the Matrix films received a best picture nomination, but Lord of the Rings did??? The effects, storytelling and acting didn't compare. And sci-fi/fantasy never gets it's due, but it can be really deep sometimes.

But for an actor labeled " no smiling, few talking" he is really surfing on his discourse.
And the velocity (magnitude and direction), meaning speed of that discourse, the passion he speaks, are for me signs that he, even looking down his right, he is living that , not just reading a text.
Hard to be a superstar, everyone is chasing every movement you make, every breath you take.

The Matrix was a revolutionary movie. Absolutely incredible. The second and third weren't the best but no.1 is just AMAZING. As for Keanu, I personally don't think he's a great actor but he fit Neo perfectly.

Because he doesn't put on a show unless he's acting. He's just himself, which comes off as awkward by Hollywood standards.
Well, I'm glad we are on the same page, but I also wish that page mattered. Even knowing the truth isn't enough. In a personal context, knowing you can be better doesn't make you better. In a social context, knowing there are problems to stand up to and fix doesn't give you the willpower to do it.
It turns out that middle ground between ignoring reality and living for it is just as meaningless as ignoring it; not to mention much less enjoyable.
