    Also if you are in a wooded area with poor ground and less nutrients or you cant do plots , minerals will help replenish what is getting pulled out of there skeletal system during antler growth , also if deer are lacking in some type of mineral this can help fill in a gap with what the deer is missing , a supplemental feed and mineral sites can help a lot , we do food plots , mineral sites and supplement feed year round and it has helped a ton , even if your on a property and can only do mineral , it can help fill in the gaps that the deer are lacking in during antler growth and fawn development

      Don't forget the part about not going into your sanctuary, or center area of your property, for a month prior to hunting season and throughout the season, and only hunting in stands just inside your properties perimeter, where you access. Keeping the core of my property unpressured was key for my place being the holder of big bucks, over the neighboring properties.

    Deer typically only need salt/mineral bc high content of water intake through eating greens. Minerals may help very little in size but a little is better than none. Thanks Jeff

    Jeff, I live in a state where it is legal to use minerals. My observation of mineral spots has been that they are more likely to be used by bucks and does during the months from January through the end of August. There is very little to almost zero use from September through January. I have also noticed that there is fewer visitations of mineral sites by deer when the surrounding food plots and Ag field are set up to meet their nutritional needs. In areas where guys have used a lot of chemical fertilizers without soil tests, I have a larger number of pix of nursing does at mineral sites near those areas.

    Using minerals is the most important thing you can do for deer health. Where people make the mistake is not putting the minerals where they need to be. The minerals need to be in their food plots soil in the form of fertilizer and ag-lime. Crops absorb the minerals and nutrients and pass it on to the deer . Lazy people try and short cut that and pouring out a pile of what is essentially a pile of salt with small amounts of the deer's essential minerals. The minerals need to be added through fertilization or already in the soil so the plants can give them minerals to deer.. If you want to help your bucks the most with minerals spread ag-lime or dolomite over your food plots. By doing that your adding 2 important nutrients to the deer Calcium and Magnesium. The rest of minerals/ nutrients deer need can be added to granular or liquid fertilizer . Great video!!!

    There is a lot of difference in minerals! Read the tag! A lot of so called deer minerals are all salt and flavoring, just think of them as bait. A good mineral with good trace minerals has to benefit herd health. I use it just for that reason. I’ve farmed for 50 years and had a lot of livestock and know the benefit of it to them. Has to be a correlation to wild animals imo. I think it can help them get through times of stress like drought and disease.

    The study you were referring to was done by Bronson Strickland, called “epigenetics” aka Fetal programming. You should look at it again because you’re wrong about the minerals and nutrients being offered to deer. The minerals are beneficial to deer for an extended time, at least (5) years to work into the herd, being generational. In areas where the soil offers nutrient, mineral sites are useless.

    Nobody is trying to jump 3 years. That's asinine you would even suggest that and honestly really devalues your intelligence in my eyes. Minerals absolutely do work. They do give you an extra 10-15" given the right supplementation. That's exactly why deer farms use it. Just like any animal giving the correct supplementation is a large factor in growth. And there are several areas all across the country that lack different nutrients that you can supplement with a mineral. You of all people should know hunting in the UP of Michigan that deer die every year to not having the correct supplementation or food. Really bad take here. Genetics, age, supplementation. That's what builds a big buck. Gaining a half of year of growth on a deer from having the correct food sources all year round is not a stretch and is possible and does happen.

    • @bubbigguns4952
      @bubbigguns4952 3 года назад +1

      Yea I agree that you can help maximize potential. Age, genetic makeup, & nutrition are HUGE factors. I hunt areas that need supplements, not sure which though. This guy is smart but I've heard others things from him to that are just opinion not fact. Experience for yourself is probably the most important. Things are not the same everywhere.
