Thank you!! And especially thank you for keeping your seeds at a decent price. You have no idea how much we appreciate it! God bless your family.
Just moved to Canada so I will try your ideas here. Gardening in this climate is def different than in the tropics. And yes, garlic is so expensive in this part of the world. So thanks a lot for the insights and tips! God bless
I know this video is a few years old, but in Michigan hardneck variety garlic does better with the cold. Michigan State's site recommends the 'Music' variety. We've been growing it for two years in Almont, Michigan and it does very well. We plant 150 - 200 cloves around Halloween. 'Northern Jewel' is another great variety (also hardneck).
my family loves your videos. thanks for always being so informative, positive, and friendly.
Excellent tips, Luke! We've been planting organic garlic from Whole Foods for years too.
So happy to find something I can grow over winter to keep my garden producing!
Woohoo! I'm so excited to plant garlic this fall! Thank you for this video!
It would be nice to have a time line of growth then harvest
About 9 months long. I have some 3 months in and two months in the ground.
Where I live we plant garlic the first week of October and harvest around the first week of July.
This was a great video! I have a spot ready to grow garlic for this late fall. Thank you for doing this video.
Love this, first year gardener, def want to plant garlic this fall, a lot of it!

You have changed your mind about seed garlic
Very thorough video Luke. A great guide. I've gotta go plant mine before it gets to late.

This was very helpful! Can’t wait to start up my garlic bed
Will be trying this. Thanks for all your really informative growing guides.

My Daddy planted WHATEVER WHENEVER he wanted. I now live in Utah, Zone 7 and have had to adapt to zone planting. You are AWESOME!!!! MAHALO NUI!!!!!
so true I havent bought potatoes or garlic from a seed catelog in years
Great video Luke, I appreciate that you are thorough. I will be giving this a go this year in our new square foot garden beds. Thanks again!
SSLFamilyDad Square foot beds are perfect for growing garlic. Nice soft soil, allowing for nice deep root systems. Let us know how they do!
Thank you so much for this video! this will be my first year planting garlic.
Thanks. I have been a bit weary of planting garlic, but you make it look easy.
Love your style thanks for what you do. I've been watching your videos for over a year now.
First off, thanks for the videos.
We live in the Canadian Rockies and grow great garlic. We mulch in the fall, but only to keep the weeds away.
We get hard frosts (2 or 3 feet deep) and it does not adversely effect the garlic at all. We also top up the straw mulch in the spring for the same reasons of weed control and moisture retention.
Miles of smiles...
So easy to understand. Thank you!
THANK YOU!! The two season tip was a first for me, a new garlic grower in south Louisiana. Everyone is saying start in the fall and winter the bulbs for a summer harvest. I planted cloves this March in hopes that I’d be able to harvest this year.
Hey man. First time i've seen any of your videos.Just getting ready to plant some garlic in Newfoundland Canada. Your video was simple an easy to follow. Im now gone to break down some garlic heads and plant them. ... Thanks for the help 👍👍

Absolutely love you and your videos. i am definately a "beginner" I find that the entire process of gardening is very beneficial. To me and everyone and everything i come in contact with. My goal this year is to help provide fresh produce to one of our local food pantrys. I really hope i can succeed. Thanks again!!
Great how-to! I love garlic but the rest of the fam - not so much. I can now use late fall garlic that's started to sprout to grow my own. Cheers!

Thanks for the clear explanation - I'll be growing some garlic this winter on my balcony in pots. Hopefully it'll be successful!
Did it work?
Watching this after harvesting my garlic I bought from your seed catalog last year🤣❤️ the Ivan did the bast for me❤️
Great and helpful video....thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the tips of growing garlic, it's really helps, from Melbourne.
This helped out a lot.
Ok, don't know how I missed this video lol, but definitely planting garlic this year...I'm also trying to plant things that cost a lot...this year I have 22 bell peppers planted because to buy one at the grocery store here is $4-5 Canadian for one 😱 ....I only have 3 small beds right now, (2 @ 10 x 4 and 1 @10 x 2) but I'm working my way up to add 6 more of the bigger beds....trying not to get discouraged having my first garden with one of the worst springs ever lol, crossing my fingers on the peppers, happy gardening!!
Hello. New subscribers here:
This week husband and I decided. Yep garlic and ginger and tumeric is expensive and it's what we buy the most. We have a house with enormous back yard. Problem is, it's a fenced yard and we can't figure out how the neighborhood rabbits get in and eat out vegetables, so we decided to plant the three roots, hoping that the rabbits will hate it and it be a deterrent to them. Lol.. . We are retired and tired and arthritic but we still love to garden and seeing things grow. So thank you so much honey. We will follow you because we enjoyed your video and all your advice and tips. Thanks
I think i will buy all my seeds from you this year!
covering with leavings helps condition the soil for the next planting of crops. ;)
So excited for october now! Going to plant some garlic!!!
Thanks for sharing😊
planting garlic for the first time, I'm so excited! Thanks for sharing this great, very informational video. It was very helpful!
+The Peeping Egg We are thrilled it helped!

Just I planned my garlics in my garden in ny zone 6 b ,the last frost date is October 15 ,when i will get my harvest around,
Thanks Peter Westchester ny
Thanks, love your videos
absoluely fantastic. i really like your videos
I actually planted a few cloves of store bought garlic, I only got one big bulb from harvest, and now I'm planting all the cloves from that one bulb.
Does it have to be organic?
@@denisewalker7534 No.
Great information!
Great information. Just watched your video with Sindy and saw the link for this one. Definitely going to try to grow some. Thanks!
+OmgKittys78 So glad you followed the link! It is nice to see those thins actually work! :)
Didn't know you could plant in the spring time, thanks
I didn't get my garlic planted in the fall. It is March. Is it too late to plant for the spring?
thank you for your video ,i love it...!!
Great video...TY
Mulch/top dressing/straw is to prevent going to seed when spring heat hits in hotter zone 9 climates. Keeps the ground and bulbs cooler longer means proper larger bulbs.
I love your seeds and shows. Just placed an order for seeds.
Thanks luke. ..I was munching on a mixture of garlic I grew this year, ginger and honey to sooth my sore throat as I watched this!
David D MMMMmmmm ginger, honey, and lemon is SOOOO good.
i will try this :)
Awesome thank you
I would rather buy my garlic from local nurseries than a conglomerate like Whole Foods. They work very hard and appreciate my business. 😊
I live in michigan and I have a telly's greenhouse a mile away, I freaking love them.
I love all your videos
Thank you. Full sun? Can we use part sun?
Great harvest time info, I live in Florida and I was afraid it was too late to plant since everyone plants in November.
Thanks!
cool tips thanks for the vedeo
GREAT VIDEO LUKE!
Matt Compton thank you!
Thank you 👍
I like your comment about growing corn, I have the same opinion of potatoes, its so cheap in the store so why bother LOL!.. I planted some garlic cloves around September, I put mine about 3-4 inches deep. Nothing came up and it was also quite dry at the time. Around January when the warm weather came, garlic shoots came up (zone 6b-7). Anticipating home grown garlic from the grocery store, out of one bulb there was 2-3 large cloves and even some of the small ones are growing.. Next time I will try planting them shallow like in this video.
Thanks handsome! Awesome presentation. I eat garlic almost everyday and I spend too much money on them and onions
I saw this video last fall, followed the suggestions and was totally surprised to produce a bumper crop. I can't wait to do it again but this time I will keep the plants from getting too tall because mine flowered and I was freaked out.
Great video Luke! I need to plant our garlic asap!
Learn To Grow thanks mesilla! Let us know when you plant it :)AKA - don't forget to make a video!
Thanks Luke,
this vidio is just coming to the right time ;o)
Can I grow the Chinese one clove garlic?
Greetings from Germany
Excellent guide to playing garlic !
***** Thanks for watching buddy :) Did you plant any?
I have to do it still. It's been a wildly busy fall. And I have to raise on of my beds before doing it and finding day light these days is tough lol.
I like the new profile photo !
I will try this. Thanks
Larry White thanks for watching larry!
Hey, thanks for the tip on growing garlic in areas without frost, snow etc. I live in Phoenix, and it's hard to get info on gardening for this arid climate. I'm happy to know that I can plant garlic successfully this spring. You also answered one of my other questions whether I can buy organic garlic from the grocery store and plant it. Awesome! I subscribed. In my little back yard garden, I don't have much room, but it is so satisfying to grow things we can eat. I have 13 citrus trees around the perimeter of the yard. You can see the garden on RUclips by searching Tippy's Garden Spring 2015. I'm a new fan.
+Tippy Mueller The only difference from buying seed garlic versus store bought garlic that I know of would be the size of the end resulting harvested garlic itself. It's my understanding that seed garlic produces larger garlic than does the store bought. I'm uncertain of this though since I've not purchased seed garlic to try it. So maybe MIGardener could grow the two different types and show us the results...
Check out "Jake Mace the Vegan Athlete". He lives in Tempe and grow all his own food in his back yard. He has some awesome gardening videos for growing in Phoenix.
Really good demonstration. Thank you. Lynn
Glad it helped you!
I live in south Florida, can I plant the garlic now in April and should be ready by fall?
When your garlic stars to sprout in the spring do you add any additional fertilizer
I have 2 4x4x2 beds that I just built a plastic mini green house over, I think I will plant some garlic this week. Very rich soil. Knoxville Tn. Thanks for showing me how.
MrMrwilson11 I am so glad you decided to plant some, It is hands down one of the easiest plants to grow.
Plant a whole head makes great scallions.
new subscriber thank you for the video can't wait to plant garlic
+148DMC Glad you joined us! :)
This works on Potato & Onions to right
Planted my garlic in November after prepping my soil. Today I noticed that my garlic is sprouting. I am an urban hobby gardener and I’m still learning. My small garden is about 10 ft by 4 ft. I live in Philadelphia Pa. should I cover the sprouting garlic and with what? I’ve never had success with it before but this year I saw your video about adding sulfur to the soil. It was very informative and easy to follow. We’re having cold windy days and then warm days and lots of rain and a little snow. Any advice from you would be highly appreciated. Thank you 🙏
gréât vidéo, do you water after planting garlic?
Great video, now for the next time would you make a video showing the full grown garlic plant 🌱..??!!!!!
