    Just moved to Canada so I will try your ideas here. Gardening in this climate is def different than in the tropics. And yes, garlic is so expensive in this part of the world. So thanks a lot for the insights and tips! God bless

    I know this video is a few years old, but in Michigan hardneck variety garlic does better with the cold. Michigan State's site recommends the 'Music' variety. We've been growing it for two years in Almont, Michigan and it does very well. We plant 150 - 200 cloves around Halloween. 'Northern Jewel' is another great variety (also hardneck).

    First off, thanks for the videos.
    We live in the Canadian Rockies and grow great garlic. We mulch in the fall, but only to keep the weeds away.
    We get hard frosts (2 or 3 feet deep) and it does not adversely effect the garlic at all. We also top up the straw mulch in the spring for the same reasons of weed control and moisture retention.
    Miles of smiles...

    Ok, don't know how I missed this video lol, but definitely planting garlic this year...I'm also trying to plant things that cost a lot...this year I have 22 bell peppers planted because to buy one at the grocery store here is $4-5 Canadian for one 😱 ....I only have 3 small beds right now, (2 @ 10 x 4 and 1 @10 x 2) but I'm working my way up to add 6 more of the bigger beds....trying not to get discouraged having my first garden with one of the worst springs ever lol, crossing my fingers on the peppers, happy gardening!!

    Hello. New subscribers here:
    This week husband and I decided. Yep garlic and ginger and tumeric is expensive and it's what we buy the most. We have a house with enormous back yard. Problem is, it's a fenced yard and we can't figure out how the neighborhood rabbits get in and eat out vegetables, so we decided to plant the three roots, hoping that the rabbits will hate it and it be a deterrent to them. Lol.. . We are retired and tired and arthritic but we still love to garden and seeing things grow. So thank you so much honey. We will follow you because we enjoyed your video and all your advice and tips. Thanks

    I like your comment about growing corn, I have the same opinion of potatoes, its so cheap in the store so why bother LOL!.. I planted some garlic cloves around September, I put mine about 3-4 inches deep. Nothing came up and it was also quite dry at the time. Around January when the warm weather came, garlic shoots came up (zone 6b-7). Anticipating home grown garlic from the grocery store, out of one bulb there was 2-3 large cloves and even some of the small ones are growing.. Next time I will try planting them shallow like in this video.

    Hey, thanks for the tip on growing garlic in areas without frost, snow etc. I live in Phoenix, and it's hard to get info on gardening for this arid climate. I'm happy to know that I can plant garlic successfully this spring. You also answered one of my other questions whether I can buy organic garlic from the grocery store and plant it. Awesome! I subscribed. In my little back yard garden, I don't have much room, but it is so satisfying to grow things we can eat. I have 13 citrus trees around the perimeter of the yard. You can see the garden on RUclips by searching Tippy's Garden Spring 2015. I'm a new fan.

    • @SansaStarkofWinterfell
      @SansaStarkofWinterfell 8 лет назад

      +Tippy Mueller The only difference from buying seed garlic versus store bought garlic that I know of would be the size of the end resulting harvested garlic itself. It's my understanding that seed garlic produces larger garlic than does the store bought. I'm uncertain of this though since I've not purchased seed garlic to try it. So maybe MIGardener could grow the two different types and show us the results...

    Planted my garlic in November after prepping my soil. Today I noticed that my garlic is sprouting. I am an urban hobby gardener and I’m still learning. My small garden is about 10 ft by 4 ft. I live in Philadelphia Pa. should I cover the sprouting garlic and with what? I’ve never had success with it before but this year I saw your video about adding sulfur to the soil. It was very informative and easy to follow. We’re having cold windy days and then warm days and lots of rain and a little snow. Any advice from you would be highly appreciated. Thank you 🙏
