    Vaughan plays WITH the groove, against the beat for the most part. He doesn't spray his notes on top, his phrasing weaves in and out of beat, lets them breath, like a horn player would. He plays whats right for the song, not what he can fit into a measure. There's so much to learn from what he's doing, people who think he's boring aren't listening closely enough.

      +Judd Austin ya mean behind the beat, right? blues needs it

      well, yeah, bb king stuff, shuffles need it, but not everything. my comment "against the groove was meant to express that.

    • @brutalblues

      @JJM It's pretty much subjective. It's not a contest. I loved Stevie's "open channel" (I think E.C. used that description once) ability to just rip wide open, never seeming to be at a loss for where to go next. He was a master at dynamics as well. Their styles are quite different. Jimmie plays his way. Less is more. You don't like it, that's your prerogative. You don't get it. Not a contest.

    I call that extra extra Jimmy's. Nobody can do it like Jimmie Vaughan. I feel like the luckiest man on Earth cuz I got to see the Thunderbirds in 83 with Keith Ferguson and many times in 86 87 with Preston Hubbard. And that Kim Wilson's with the voice from heaven in the harmonica harp from outer space the greatest thing since slice bread... and I think sliced bread is great

    Few guitarists use space as well as Jimmie does. If anyone wonders what the secret to his good taste is, I'd venture it is the fact that he's not afraid to leave space in his playing. If you listen to his runs, they are actually fairly fast (he's not sweep picking but there are a lot of 16th notes.) But it seems easy to listen to because he gives you time to take it in between runs.

    Simply the best guitar player of his era. If ya can't hear it you don't know anything about soul! Oh, by the way there was a post a while back were Robert Plant "jammed" with Jimmie. This post got more likes and coverage I couldn't count them all. I don't understand this at all. Jimmie is the real thing. Plant isn't even in his league. I just don't understand the mass taste.

    • @jimmyjames2639
      @jimmyjames2639 7 лет назад +1

      That doesn't make sense. The whole purpose of soul is how the music makes you feel. Not how you should feel about the music. If people don't like this and think it's boring that's fair. Music is subjective which means people have just as much right to dislike it as you have to love it. There is no one size fits all in music, stop trying to force it.

    Of course you have every right in the world to not like JV's playing and that's totally acceptable. What you can't say is that JV is a bad guitarist/musician. And that's because Jimmy's a part of blues guitar history. He has already been judged by millions of musicians and listeners and given a place next to the greats not to mention that his playing has influenced many many young (and older) guitar players. So please stick to subjective comments else you're just making fools of yourselves.
