About 50 years ago, I "borrowed" one of my mother's headscarfs and made a parachute for my cheap Hong Kong made Action Man copy. I took it to the top landing of a low block of flats near where I live. I threw it off, expecting "GI Joe" to gently float to the ground. Instead, an updraft caught it and it soared into the air. Passed over my head, and disappeared over the flat roof of the flats behind me.. I quietly went home, and never told anybody what I had done. 🤫

This made me laugh - was it by any chance an Action Jack made by Star Toys - if so I had one using a large handkerchief as a parachute sore straight over the neighbours fence and promptly eaten by next doors dog - oops 😂

at the right place at the right time. I met a financial and trading consultant at a seminar back at Los Angeles later last year, where she was featured and interviewed and I reached out to her afterwards.
Her name is Elizabeth Ann Hanson, I didn't know much about trading and investing so I spoke to her about it, she then later introduced me to her platform where I and other people could invest.

Fun!, Fun! Fun! Thank you!! My favourite has to be the Chic Look, a la Audrey Hepburn. Lovely. Quirky note - vintage scarves from the 1930s and early 1940s were quite small, 60cm, sometimes 70cm square. (Fabric rations) Then scarves get larger with each decade. By the 80s, you get around 80-90cm square. But drop back to the 1920s, and they are huge!

For the Alice band look, if you start rolling the scarf from the pointed end, everything gets incorporated inside and creates a smooth tube shape with no triangular bits to deal with. Just a tip if anyone’s interested 😂. Great video Hannah. 😊

In the 1970s I worked in a food factory before food handling nets existed . We were all issued with overalls and a large cotton square for our heads to make turbans 1940s style. I was pleased because mine was a paler yellow rather than a bright mustard which would not have suited my skin colour. We folded them across diagonally and tied the first parts as you did, but the front flap and the 2 top ties were brought back ,rather than forward ,and tucked under the knot and the side folds. I have a very narrow forehead and the style really suited me. When I was issued with a new garish one, I washed it until it faded.Just a bit of hair showing to soften my high forehead. I felt so good !

In your videos, you hit the nail on the head. I'm American but your home and style is typical of the 1940's as I remember it. I grew up in that era and remember my mother wandering around the house with her hair in pincurls and a scarf just like you show and, of course, a bathrobe. I get really nostalgic for this era sometimes. I remember when we walked down the street any man going by would tip his hat to us. So many good memories. Thanks for giving this to us again.

I loved all of the looks but my favourites were the "Classic", the "Chic" and the last one ("Classic" but with a smaller scarf). I have short hair, so they will add a dash of elegance when I wear them. By the way, you're doing the "Classic" head scarf the right way. My late Mum had to leave school when she was fourteen to work in a munitions factory during the war (I use to have a photo of her sitting by the fire with her cuppa after coming home from work) and her scarf was tied up this exact way. She use to tie her scarf over her hair like this all the time (when I was a little girl) and she was cleaning the house. So no worries, you're doing it correctly! I'm 64 now and you've brought back so many happy memories whilst watching your videos and remembering my Mum, thank you so much! Cheers from Canada :)

I have super-short hair and can vouch that most of these styles work with short hair! My very favorite are the Alice band and the hippie one (I just call it the kerchief look). My hair is very slick, and I've always had trouble with silk scarves not wanting to stay in place. Cotton scarves and bandanas work well, though, and hair pins are always lifesavers. I inherited my grandmother's hair scarves and will always treasure them. I've had a lot of luck finding scarves at flea markets and similar places-- just a tip for anyone who's scarf-hunting.
    Really enjoyed this tutorial!

Lovely!! Regarding the Alice Band that ties in the back, if you tie it behind the bottom of one ear, the tails will hand down one shoulder, which is how my mother wore it in the 70s... with her platform clogs and plaid polyester bell-bottoms❣️❣️❣️

Thank you for showing these! I've wondered about how to do a few of them for a long time. I used to do the hippy one back in the 90s in high school with 70s scarves I had swiped from my mom. I wanted to do the headband one but couldn't get the end to stay out of the way. Now I know to fold it in first :) These are also great if you're having a bad hair day or just can't be bothered to put in a lot of effort that day.

The 'classic' is my go-to since it works in nylon for keeping pin curls as I sleep or a cotton bandana as I do house/yardwork. In elementary school I wore the bandana in your 'hippie-cottage core' style (that here in the U.S. we frequently call 'farmgirl or country girl') so that I could look like the 'big girls'. I'm excited to try the 'rosette' ones in floral print chiffons. Thank you for another great video.

I've been doing variations on the classic look for a very long time.
Also, I think the rosettes are quite fetching

Another good fun video! My one headscarf is a slippy silk one - very pretty, very kind to one’s hair, but as you said, not so cooperative when styling. 🫤

Loved this. Never been able to quite grasp the concept but you made it look so easy. Would you be able to show some easy hairstyles too? My old lady (58) going on 😉 30 hair is just past my shoulders and i just stick it in a bun or hair grip usually. You have a knack showing easy tutorials. So easy 1940s hair styles to do yourself would be great 👍 ❤

    Thanks for this.
I have previously had super long , thick wavy hair so have struggled to be able to style head scarves as my hair has always fought back against the farbic, now I have it much much shorter I am going to give some of these a try. Also I was always matching the length of the triangle ends so I am going to try it this way instead.

Roll the 3rd one, the bow from the tip to the widest part. No triangle flap you need to tuck away.

I've always loved the styles produced by headscarfes/squares. But I find an irony that I am wrestling with:
All these looks are vintage - but what if the head and face is also vintage?
I mean, I don't like to think of myself as vintage but, as
I've just turned 72 I am not just vintage but in old biddy territory. Love to try this look though. It might suit.
    On the other hand...... 🤣
Thanks for the great tutorial Hannah, I can only try!

love this video !!!! always looking for a new way to wear my vast collection of scarfs. (litrally can not go in to a lush and not dig through the "vintage knot wraps" they are so much fun. i have worn them as neck bow at a queens jubilee event at the black country museum along with my swan print poodle skirt and i love the rosie riveter look. tried them all whilst watching :D and i love the rose headband look and may wear it when i am in the science museum tomorrow
