this changed my life forever. thank you, thank you, thank you. self-pity is my greatest obstacle, & this video helped me to identify that. now my task is to actively shed self-pity any & every time i find myself indulging in it (or being tempted to do so). years of therapy have helped me understand why self-pity has become such a go-to for me. but at the end of the day, self-pity is nothing more than a cheap trick, a cheap thrill that prevents me from getting what i actually want in life
This message was really helpful. Last month i lost my dad to cancer. He never got diagnosed before and in just 3 weeks he was gone. I am still grieving and feel guilty for being away from my family ( they live in Europe) to fulfill my dream in China. Then i broke up with my boyfriend and in the middle of it all, my company got bought by another multinational and so many colleagues quit or were laid off. I feel my life is being dismantled and feeling so sorry for myself so the message from your guest about how not to complain and not having selfpity really helped. Thank you Lisa for giving me some hope. Hugs from Shanghai ~
Yinglin thank you so much for sharing lovely. Totally hear and understand how difficult all those life events must have been for you. Glad this episode resonated and gave you some strategies to move forward! Love back ❤️❤️
More power to you. I was in a similar situation 3 years ago when literally everything in my life fell apart. From my family to friends to career. I went straight into self pity and complained a lot. It took me going into a really low phase to realise I had to rise up and try to fix things for myself. I wish I had realized it just when things had begun to get hard. I stretched it too far. Thankfully, life is always willing to give you one more chance than you think you deserve! I wish you all the best for your life and strength to cope with difficult situations.
It is simple... but it sits on a foundation of inner and outer resources (self-compassion, distress tolerance, the belief that your feelings are real, the belief that your feelings matter, and the ability to ask for help & discern who is supportive to ask for help from). And if you have trauma, it also requires doing some trauma processing (it may not feel like there is hope, but there is).
This interview is timeless... I've watched this several times already and it's always worth every minute re watching...Amy Morin is a self -help guru indeed ..I also love the way Lisa asks her questions. I see myself in her questions and her apprehensions. This interview is 🔥🔥🔥!
How thoughtful of her wearing matching trousers with the cushions! I love her message. She's very right about so many things at so many levels. Thanks for the interview, Lisa Bilyeu! ❤️
I can remember the days of self pity 😕 she's right. I made some massive changes to get control over my health a few years back. I'm still a working progress but I can hardly recognise myself 🦋
I love the fact that you’ve started this show, Lisa!!! I love you and Tom. My dream is that one day I’ll reach the point where you guys will interview me! I have such a fire burning inside, sometimes I feel like I am just blabbering, but this fire keeps me awake at night! I am so happy for your success!!!
😂 I also imagine myself being interviewed by them. Happy that I'm not the only one. 😍 Fantastic that after committing to self-development, people are indeed scaling up the success bar. 🌸 🙏🏽
I have an autistic child that is often disregulated and has behavioral challenges and what we do is co-regulate. We validate (identify them out loud) his feelings and give him time to come down. We will often stop talking/asking questions because that increases loss of control, stress and just be there with him. Offering high positive reinforcement, low demand during these times. No, you're absolutely not responsible for their emotions or curating happiness for them but don't ever neglect them emotionally either. Anyways, lol been a long road to get where we are and my kid comes to us whenever he is struggling because he knows even if he is disregulated, mom is still in control. He feels safe.
Feeling guilty means you are doing something for yourself. If you feel guilty that you didn't do something for someone else you are saying to yourself they come first. If tell yourself you are doing it for yourself instead, that you are giving to yourself and not withholding from another guilt can diminish greatly. Setting boundaries with your own destructive thoughts can make guilt feel less destructive. We need to stop beating ourselves up for not putting everyone else first and put ourselves first instead. Nurture ourselves first and then we have more to give others without feeling guiltly when we say no to someone or think we have to apologize for whatever reason.
I would LOVE to see an interview with Kelsey Withrow! Professional Triathlete. She has overcome such incredible obstacles that would make David Goggins consider quitting- and became a top ranked professional Ironman athlete. She’s a total inspiration and now she’s living out the life she’s always wanted
I’m reading her book right now and it’s a very easy read. If you need a mental health boost then I’d highly recommend it. Sometimes reading and doing exercises can seem quite draining... this book doesn’t feel like that at all. Easy read, relatable and awesome! I read it before watching this interview and now I appreciate it even more. Thank you 😊
The only time you can compare yourself with someone else is when everything about them and around them is exactly like you. As this is impossible, comparison is pointless. We are just doing our own unique thing. This lightens the load.
The "scheduling of doing your actual worrying" idea has been around for decades but ppl still feel like they have to worry ALL day about something as if worrying about it will change it in some way. I've read almost all of her ideas somewhere else, but it seems like she took the best advice out of all the books she read & put them all together for a new generation.
Thanks for this! I love this channel!! Every interview I have watched on this channel has incredible content. I love the way women communicate, it makes me proud to be a women. Lets face it, women kick ass!!!!! ✊🏻😊
A brilliant interview with a very different but helpful perspective. Definitely going to put things into perspective. I think dismissing the concepts is unwise. Being open to learning is so much better.

Yeah me too, it's more nuanced than is presented here. There are times when it helps to change the subject in my head. But, more often than not, it helps me to vent for a little while in my journal - the main purpose of my journal is to help me identify what I'm feeling, because I grew up in an environment of toxic positivity and can easily almost gaslight my own feelings.
The moment I thanked her for her compliment and owned the moment, her "eyes of judgment" for my arrogance for not paying her a reciprocal compliment... lmao! Women are the cross of judgment girls bear. Hopefully, we can shift the talk for a better balance for men and women. Thank you for a great interview!

Love ❤️ your interviews , how you conduct it and totally inspired by the stories of the personalities you bring in..... but what makes me cringe is your intro. Every time you say you went from being a house wife to running a billion dollar company, you make it sound like being a housewife is some kind a failure or an unsuccessful state of life. There are some who do run a billion dollar company but all they want to be is a housewife or a stay at home mom .... I think it all comes down to wether you are happy in doing what you do and not bring down what you don’t like doing ... coz success is subjective and not a certain standard. For some being a housewife is successful rather than running a billion dollar company. 😊
Dear Madame, I've read this 3xs now. Walked away from it for 45 minutes between the second & third perusal. This got up under my *skin*. Thank you for that. That word, "housewife"...? It's a whopper, no? (chuckles gently) Yeah it got me too. I'm a housewife. I'm also the CEO of Vanmoerkerque Enterprises. Lisa Bilyeu taught me that. I chose this life. I live in the Northeast in the States, cost of living here is brutal. Yet Hubs & I chose to make my housewife status a top priority as it's the best current fit for our family. If one is not proud to claim housewife status I submit perhaps one may have some internal motivations that could benefit from some probing...? It's a theory. Love & cupcakes & unicorns bearing gifts, Christine 💋
Wuftha Iqbal Dilshan you raise such an important point! Thank you so much for your comment and for highlighting this issue! Most definitely agree... it’s all about individual perspective and goals. Definitely not intended to downplay the importance of the home maker! It’s equally challenging, and valuable... probably more so 🙏🏻💕
cthornton523 Culture also plays a big role. What we’re taught about different people/roles, their importance, their value. Think the point being made, was that collectively we need to shift our perspective about the role of ‘the housewife.’ And... we can all do with some internal probing 🤷🏻♀️😊🤣🙏🏻💕
I SO appreciate you being honest about this! Because the truth is there is absolutely NO judgment when I said it so it didn't even occur to me that that was how it was possibly going to be perceived! So thanks for that clarity and insight! And without knowing my full story I actually can see why this would rub on some people. But when I say it, its because I didnt feel like I CHOSE to be a housewife. My mum was one and was the BEST EVER at it! It takes soooooo much work. To be honest.... THAT was harder then building Quest! Emotionally! Because i felt trapped. I didnt WANT to be a housewife. But if that what someone WANTS then I only applaud you! Nothing has more value over the other! Ultimately my message is, no matter where you start, if you are unhappy, you CAN change it! It IS possible! But dont stay in ANYTHING that isnt bringing you fulfillment! Period! Whether thats a housewife, a teacher or an astronaut!

Woman feel guilt more often, because they are more empathetic, and they replace themselves with the person to which they apologise. The point is, want man to behave (to be empathetic) like we are, but it’s not in their nature. Everyone should take into account with what gender they are talking, and don’t expect from orange became a tomato, because they are tomatoes. It’s go two sides.
Hope suffers from the harsh verdicts of experience. ruclips.net/video/xYX74Ddbzs0/видео.html 10:43 - At what point does one cross the line where ones thoughts are actually representative of reality with the issue simply being ignorance and to challenge them is to be in denial of that fact? Her definition for privacy in certain circumstances could be correlated as lying by omission, where at that point it becomes secrecy. (or I guess one could call it "toxic privacy"). 15:20 - If men and women build mental strength the same way, then it's a difference of nurture which dictates the degree of an individuals self confidence & doubt; It being a thing that's not specific of gender, but their culture/upbringing. 16:31 - men and women are both told the erroneous idea, "You can be anything you want." 16:49 - The list of things here are no longer things that are gender specific. Men today undoubtedly have a pressure on the way they look more than ever. For men it wasn't as critical in the past because it was a very different world. 17:37 - I agree it's about the language we use. The perceived difference with gender is apparent because it's a narrative assumed by people were their assumptions perpetuate said narrative. 17:59 - The reason why women seem to blame themselves more so than men is because of their propensity to be more (Big 5) agreeable. The degree and/or frequency which an individual is likely going to blame themselves is contingent on their level of agreeableness among other factors not necessarily specific to gender. 22:20 - I myself prefer to have if-then plans for whatever in case of, if it happens to be. Though for some, having a preemptive plan creates the opportunity to have the situation run afoul because it concretizes an idea that if not fulfilled, brings about negative feelings. People of this preference might be better off having an open-ended approach. This being a difference of either worrying about what is to come juxtaposed to what would be actually happening in the moment. 23:20 - Make sure to differentiate if the source for the desire to complain stems from an actual perceived issue rather it being a projection of ones shadow parts of the self. When it's an issue that doesn't originate from shadow, DO "get it out", but orient it toward going about it in a healthy way, to the right person. You don't want to keep it locked inside. The body doesn't forget. Don't downplay your success? Now that's a difficult one😅. 29:42 - Personally, I really don't like to receive complements. I don't like the way they make me feel. An alternative I've come up with is, I'd rather know how whatever I did impacted them. From that I could potentially feel good about said thing. I agree with acknowledging the hard work one puts in, though keeping it to myself. I don't think I'd be able to express that without coming off as arrogant, though that doesn't matter to me much as I don't care to express it. 37:13 - 👍 40:10 - I agree, except when the undesirable emotion felt is a direct result of the parents lack in properly teaching their child how to process them. Combined with the amount of real effort which was put into trying, establishing to what extent the parent genuinely cared to try. 42:36 - 💯. Be your best self.
I feel like her distinction of self-pity and healthy sadness is odd. What she describes as self-pity sounds to me like depression. Complete hopelessness and the belief nobody can help you and that you can't even help yourself..?
It is depression in a way but it does differ for every individual..but what she is saying does hold a lot of importance...bcz if you are depressed and don't even try to do something different that can maybe help you you truly believe you can't be helped..and in that case you need external help
I'm not watching this whole thing lol it's another just be strong message... Let me put her in Afghanistan with 0$ and see how strong she is after a month ...... People passed in her family and she didn't give herself space to be messed up for a little while ??? Is she gonna blast off too the moon next ??
Women feel to success in any work sucees is not so easy to get. It will be 100% effort is need then work should be in time completed previous experience if you have then you will be put 50% effort then you will be success .. shame thing. When you feel it it is very simple you are a student you have good track in your studies. In exams you have light sick created then you may fail in one exam then you feel shame before your friends . Fear without studies exams coming fast then fear created you have to do work is not completed before time then you will feel with fear . Yshk viswanatham MscBed.
I am sorry, but losing 2 or 3 people close to you ? Wow, if losing people close to me to death was the worst thing that ever happened to me, I would consider myself BLESSED. I only wish that was the worse thing that ever happened to me. Sorry that happened to you Karen
Ridiculous - people dying is a natural part of life. There doesn't seem that much unusual about these deaths. Everyone's parents die, occasionally a young adult dies. This story is by no means a one after another tragedy happening.
When two people love each other that much, they usually reflect each other in similar ways....it's a beautiful thing!! Not one to be judged... Instead of criticizing her, someone who is clearly making a positive impact in other womens' lives (read the comments;), why don't you take what resonates and leave the rest? Or if you can't stand her entirely, there are plenty other channels that offer similar content.. Either way, it's a poor reflection of you for doing the opposite of what alot of us women are working to build together...Unity...supporting each other... I hope you find a more loving and caring approach to other women who are 'doin' the damn thanggg and kicking serious butt' helping other women elevate their lives 🙏💛
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. when you maliciously criticize one, you break them down, and that doesn't help anyone or anything, so let us try to be more kind and build each other up.
"Just because you feel guilty doesn't mean you did anything wrong." 💯

I've read this 3xs now.
Love & cupcakes & unicorns bearing gifts,
Christine 💋
@@cthornton523 I love this reply! Thanks for being part of the discussion!

10:43 - At what point does one cross the line where ones thoughts are actually representative of reality with the issue simply being ignorance and to challenge them is to be in denial of that fact?
Her definition for privacy in certain circumstances could be correlated as lying by omission, where at that point it becomes secrecy. (or I guess one could call it "toxic privacy").
15:20 - If men and women build mental strength the same way, then it's a difference of nurture which dictates the degree of an individuals self confidence & doubt; It being a thing that's not specific of gender, but their culture/upbringing.
16:31 - men and women are both told the erroneous idea, "You can be anything you want."
16:49 - The list of things here are no longer things that are gender specific.
37:13 - 👍
40:10 - I agree, except when the undesirable emotion felt is a direct result of the parents lack in properly teaching their child how to process them.
Fabulous humans. However why does every single person in the interviews look flat-out exhausted? To be successful, does that equate not sleeping? ;)
Studio Céleste thanks so much for your comment 🙏🏻 🤷♀️ not lack of sleep
Studio Céleste I was asking myself the exact same question 🙆🏾♀️I discovered the channel last week and have been binge watching

I am easily offended. How do I over come this?
I disagree. Venting feels good.
Heart attack at 26... fuck
I am sorry, but losing 2 or 3 people close to you ? Wow, if losing people close to me to death was the worst thing that ever happened to me, I would consider myself BLESSED. I only wish that was the worse thing that ever happened to me. Sorry that happened to you Karen
Telling your story of the past, will not help you!!
Ridiculous - people dying is a natural part of life. There doesn't seem that much unusual about these deaths. Everyone's parents die, occasionally a young adult dies. This story is by no means a one after another tragedy happening.
How to Save the World a little surprised you have that perspective, but thank you for your comment 🙏🏻❤️
Women of Impact that's because most everyone perceives death as a disaster... it's not.

She imitates her husband's speaking style and something about her voice is super annoying.
Davaa Byambaa sorry you feel that way lovely
@Bernhardt Hertrich so all women depend on men for making impact? You gotta be joking!
