The matter of fact, almost cheerful tone of the piece is kind of sickening. This woman was subjected to what amounts to torture in the jail. Her legs where broken and she was refused medical treatment. And yet the descision to settle the case was a ’buisiness descision’.
The cops should be fired and brought up on charges of aggravated assault & civii rights violations.

The city council or local government the public votes in holds the most responsibility for all existing policies, procedures, hiring, and training. In essence if there’s a flawed policy that is being followed the officer holds no fault. That’s be like taking someone’s order atMcDonald’s, them getting fat or choking and dying, and the family suing you for it cheering All fast food workers are bastards. All you did was follow McDonald’s procedures, but should you hold responsibility for the company using fucked up products?
Police don’t make this shit on their own and do their own thing. There’s also civilian committee advisors that oversee that process.

      1. Every cop, no matter where in the US, should have a minimum starting salary of $75K. We already know that in rich suburbs, many cops make six figures. To me, even rookie cops in Alabama should make $75k a year
      2. Require a college degree
      3. Make the requirements to be a cop be more difficult, like they do state troopers. Be able to run a mile, do 20 push ups, bench press your body weight. Things like that.
