Sleng Teng is a form of digital Jamaican music that began in the mid-1980s, part of the rich repertoire of the disco-like genre called “dancehall.” No one contests the key role played by artists like Smith and King Jammy, as well as the humble, battery-operated, $150 MT-40. One of the rhythm patterns Okuda created called “rock” on the MT-40 evolved into “Sleng Teng riddim.”
Crazy how most of the sound effects on the first Sleng tent recordings were taken from this keyboard.I can hear the effect from John Wayne's call the police on here.
wait! so the rock preset IS the riddim we all love and known for decades?? Holy crap. You got to be kidding me. Did Wayne smith alter it? Or is it pretty much identical to the preset?
@@Djahbell You're too funny! Read the history, dread. Article link up top in this thread. Look, the truth is reggae is mad derivative, meaning that reggae producers often 'borrow' ideas from other genres. It's a good thing. It's what has made reggae (and hip hop) so exciting and so open to new styles. This riddim is not original but really originality is overrated, innit? I know we're 2 years on, but if anyone is curious I'm pretty sure the Devo song you meant was Girl You Want
it sounds a bit like "It's Not Right"
Mad skills bra!
The song came with the keyboard. They got the original song from an older version of this keyboard.
big up!!
So who do you think stole from who?
That were they found it...... and slowed the tempo down and over dubbed adding different effects, drum, and etc. As the years went on
JAHMALCHRIS06 this bass line was played by Wayne smith back in 1985 this was the first digital riddim to ever be greater in dancehall

how do you get it to repeat the bass line?
7 years later and still never got an answer... I actually need to know too lol.
its a present in the keyboard. The engineer who designed the preset for the keyboard got the inspiration can from a David Bowie song
Found the manual, press the fill in button (orange, and then the LED will flash to the beat) and then press a key on the bass
